Process for bright annealing of metal objects.

The bright annealing of metal objects, e.g. B. of wires, strips and sheets made of iron, copper or similar. Metals and their alloys is usually carried out in such a way that these objects are annealed in annealing pots or muffle furnaces, which can be heated either electrically or by gas, and then cooled, if necessary with the aid of special means.

As far as this happens in annealing pots, it has recently become known to provide these with cooled lids that are outside the annealing zone, and to arrange valves in these lids, which during the annealing process the expansion of the air contained in the annealing containers and the escape of the air formed Vapors, mainly water and fat vapors, enable oxygen and other harmful gases to penetrate during the cooling period.

It has been shown, however, that after cooling, material annealed in such containers often exhibits fogging, which originates from condensates of the carbonization products from the drawing fats that form on the cooler lid of the annealing container. This makes the material unusable for most purposes. Attempts have hitherto been made to eliminate this disadvantage by guiding water vapor through the annealing container. However, this procedure requires cumbersome precautions.

According to the invention, a perfectly bare annealing material can be achieved even without the mentioned aids when using an annealing pot with an airtight lid lying outside the combustion chamber, if the annealing material stacked in the annealing chamber is covered with a common, gas-permeable metal cover, for example a mesh or grid made of iron, copper or the like., surrounds. It has been shown that when such shells are used, if they are not firmly attached to the material to be annealed, but are arranged as close as possible to the same, the mentioned contamination occurs on the sheaths instead of on the surface of the material to be annealed and the actual material to be annealed remains completely blank.
