Automatic temperature switch.
There are automatic temperature switches (thermostat, thermoregulator) known for various purposes, for. B. for thermal apparatus in general and for electrically heated thermal apparatus in particular, furthermore for systems heated with steam or hot water or the like, in which the supply of the heating or refrigerant or the valve that enables the supply of the heating medium, or if present a furnace for liquid or gaseous fuels, the fuel supply to the burner is operated depending on the desired final temperature in the sense that when the desired final temperature is reached, the heating or cooling is interrupted or reduced and when
A decrease or increase in temperature is made effective again or more effectively.
In such automatic temperature switches, it is also known that a lever moved by an expansion device, e.g. B. an angle lever with a large translation, a switch, z. B. an electric tilt holder operated.
The subject of the present invention is an automatic temperature switch of the last-mentioned type with a comparatively large control range, i. i. namely the temperature range within which the automatic switch-off should take place, d. H. it should switch off even with one under
Under certain circumstances, significantly higher final temperatures than before can take place. At the same time a great sensitivity, i. H. within this large control range a well-known fine
Type of regulation and finally a regulation independent of coincidences or clumsiness is sought and achieved.
This threefold purpose is achieved according to the invention in that the pivot of the mentioned
Lever (angle lever) is mounted on a second lever at a distance from its axis of rotation, which to achieve the fine adjustment mentioned is at a greater distance from this pivot under the influence of an adjustment or stop device which is fixedly mounted on the holder frame and which is in particular screwable.
The drawing shows, in FIGS. 1 and 2, two embodiments of the invention with electrical
Toggle switch in longitudinal section.
In FIG. 1, the known expansion device is formed by a tube 1 and a rod 3 inserted into this and fastened at 2. The pipe is z. B. determined by means of the thread 4 so that it is located in the heat area of the heated apparatus and is therefore exposed to the temperature and length changes in which the rod 3 does not participate. Between two parallel shields 5 attached to the tube 1, the angle lever 6,7 is provided, the short arm 6 of which is articulated to the rod 3 at 8 and the long arm 7 of which effects the circuit.
The pivot 9 of the angle lever is not fixed, but is arranged on a lever 10 which is rotatably supported by 11 on the plates 5. This lever is expediently designed like a frame; an adjusting device acts on its end and is conveniently actuated by means of a screw. In the example shown, a threaded spindle 13 is provided, which is fixed to the switch frame at 14, has its fixed nut at 15, and also carries a stop 16 for the lever 10 and can be rotated by means of the handle 17.
On one of the signs 5 is also z. B. the substantially known mercury toggle switch 18 pivotally mounted at 19, which with a z. B. U-shaped arm 20 is firmly connected; this arm is provided with a cutting edge M for the end of the angle lever arm 7. The toggle switch is locked by a spring 22 up to a fixed stop 23 (lower end of the plate 5).

swivels in which position the heating current or another current performing work is switched on by the toggle switch.
The device works as follows:
The angle lever arm 7 usually protrudes from the cutting edge 21 by any amount 24. It. it is assumed that the lever 10 rests against the stop 16. If the temperature in the heat accumulator rises in this position of the parts, then the tube 1 expands upwards from its attachment 4 and takes the non-expanding rod 3 with it, which pivots the angle lever 6.7 as a result of the pivot 9 fixed against this movement that the end of the arm 7 after covering the distance 24 at
EMI2.1
the toggle switch 18 rests against the stop 23, after which, as a rule, both levers 10, 7 release from their stops 16 and 21, respectively.
If the toggle switch is to switch off at a higher temperature, the stop 16 is brought into a higher position by turning the spindle 13 (see position shown in dashed lines). In this position the lever 10 does not rest against the stop 26 and this is its normal position.
In such a case, the regulation proceeds in such a way that the levers 10 and 7 initially assume any loose position. If point 8 goes up with increasing temperature, then both levers 6, 7 and 10 must first cover a dead path before they come into effect and this dead path is
EMI2.2
Toggle switch 18 is tilted by pressing the arm 7 on the cutting edge 22 and at the same time supporting the lever 10 on the stop 16 so that the power is finally switched off.
The switch-off temperature is therefore determined by the position of the stop 16 relative to the lever 10

than the pivot 9, the lever arm of which is b, a sensitivity is achieved here which corresponds to the ratio b: a. Is this ratio z. B. equal to a quarter, then with a full revolution of the spindle 13 there is regulation by only a quarter of the pitch of the thread 12. On the other hand, however, the regulating path of the stop 16 can be made very large, so that the device is effective within a relatively large heat range is, d. H. the circuit can also be set for higher temperatures.
Generally speaking, the following should be noted.
Since the object of the invention is to achieve the largest possible control range, which should include temperatures from 0 to 3000 C under certain circumstances, and this large control range through
EMI2.4
of the expansion rod 3 is made possible (which is often very small, e.g. only 1 mm), so it is necessary to achieve the very often desired sensitivity, which requires an adjustment of the respective Aussehaltemperatur to 5-6 C exactly to enlarge the small path of point 9 accordingly.
This enlargement enables the mentioned leverage ratio b: a, which for one size, e.g. B. equal to a quarter, has the effect that with one full revolution of the spindle 13 the free movement

and also prevents damage and unwanted adjustment of the switch parts.
Instead of the stop 16, a known member can be provided which holds the lever 10 in any position so that it is forcibly adjusted.
The use of a stop for the lever 10 offers the advantage that the lever 10 can swing freely and therefore the arm 1 does not have to perform a large deflection.
However, the embodiment described also has the advantage that the re-maintenance of the heating means, for. B. the heating current, can only be effected at a desired minimum temperature, so that the temperature switch then forms a maximum and minimum temperature switch.
In FIG. 2, this object is achieved with reference to the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, for example, and the same reference numerals are also used where they match.
The changes from FIG. 1 are as follows. On a second thread 34 of the screw spindle 13, a second stop 35, which forms the nut for this purpose, for the lever 10 can be adjusted by means of the handle 36. The arm 20 of the tilt holder 18 no longer ends in the cutting edge 21 mentioned in FIG. 1, but is connected to the lever arm 7 with play, for example in such a way that a pin 37 cooperates with a link 38 provided on the lever arm 7. In addition, the toggle switch 18 no longer has the in Fig.
1 mentioned spring 22 and stop 23, but it is made somewhat difficult to pivot about its pivot pin 19 by means known per se, so that it is given in each

If the temperature drops with this device, the electricity is closed and thus the
Switching on the heating device not soon after the lever 10 has left the stop 16, but only when the lever 10 rests against the second stop 35, because only then does the downward point 8 of the rod 3 by means of the angle lever 6,7 to overcome the resistance of the toggle switch 18 and be able to pivot it again so that the current is switched on again.
Likewise, when the temperature rises and the rod 3 rises, the toggle switch 18 is actuated in the sense of switching off the current only when the lever 10 has placed itself against the stop 16, since only then can the toggle switch be pivoted against its resistance .
