1-4-2-6% Kohlenstoffgehalt entsteht.

When using a gaseous or vaporous active medium to achieve the desired
Layer on the surface of the cast material can, for. B. a shape can be used. which is covered airtight by a hood, the latter being provided with inlet and outlet lines for the gas or steam to be used. The relevant gas or steam is introduced into the hood before and during the casting, after this and during the annealing after the casting, whereby the mold can be vented beforehand. It can do this. when decarburization is intended, e.g. B. Oxygen or caustic soda vapors and if carbon dioxide is to be used.
Such treatment with gas or with a steam can be carried out before casting, during casting, after casting or during annealing after casting, or in all of these operations, and the gas or steam can be used under higher pressure it is only necessary that the hood is appropriately sealed.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A process for the production of castings made of iron or steel, in particular from alloyed castings with increased resistance to fire, acids and alkalis, characterized in that solid or liquid substances are added to the mold material or gaseous substances are introduced into the same, which are caused by the inherent heat of the cast goods poured into the mold or those caused by the annealing of the cast goods in the mold after casting, including the molding material, or those caused by the intrinsic heat of the cast goods poured into the mold and by the annealing of the cast goods in the mold, after the casting, including the molding material, the surface decarburize the cast body to such an extent that a protective layer of 0-25-2-6% or 1-4-2-6% carbon content is created
