Tiefbettfelge.

Drop center rim.
The subject of the invention is a drop center rim with a simple or rolled flange. In known drop center rims of this type, which are made of strip material, the cross-section is the same at all points, so that this cross-section must be selected according to the cross-section required at the most stressed points, while more material is available at the other points than from the point of view of Strength seen would be necessary.
The subject matter of the invention is a rim which is made of profiled strip material in such a way that the most heavily stressed areas of the rim have a thicker cross-section than the other rim parts. The horn attachment can also be tapered in relation to the other walls of the rim, depending on its lower stress.
The drawing shows the subject matter of the invention in an exemplary embodiment. Fig. 1 is a side view of a rim equipped with such reinforcements. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the rim on a larger scale. Figure 3 is a similar cross-section in which the rim is made with a rolled horn. Figure 4 is the cross-section of the strip of material from which such a rim can be formed.
The wall thickness of the rim a is reinforced at the most heavily stressed points, preferably at the points subject to bending stress, this reinforcement being provided in the band iron material e used to manufacture the rim by appropriate profiling with attached beads. The profiling of the strip material can also be carried out in such a way that, for example, the outer edge t, which is used to form the rolled horn, is tapered in cross section compared to the other unreinforced parts of the strip material.
The advantage of such a rim is that the weight of the rim can be reduced by only providing as much material at each point as is required for the actual stress, i.e. the wall thickness at the reinforced points b, e, d including the reinforcement is about as strong as the entire wall is designed in the previous rims, while the remaining parts of the rim are kept weaker in wall thickness, so that the total weight of the rim is lower.
