Apparatus for larynx photography.
Larynx photography is almost as old as larynxoscopy. Up to now it has been carried out in such a way that the mirror image of the larynx in the larynx mirror was photographed using an outside camera. This old method had major disadvantages: Above all, a very extensive apparatus, difficult setting of the mirror image on the photographic plate, long exposure times despite an intense light source that annoyed the patient due to the heat effect, difficulties in focusing the mirror image because the distance was due to up and down movement of the larynx is subject to strong fluctuations.
All these disadvantages and difficulties are completely eliminated with the apparatus described below.
Apart from the power source, this apparatus essentially consists of three parts: housing, camera and lamp housing with a stem.
The housing part is a three-sided, right-angled prism body, the hypotenuse surface of which has been partially removed. The remaining hypotenuse surface piece 2 is mirrored and serves for sighting in the object to be recorded; This type of shaping gives enough space inside the prism body to accommodate a small cylindrical pinhole camera 3. The pinhole of this camera is exposed through a hole in the chrome mirror. The lamp housing 4 is easily detachably attached to the removed prism body, the extension of which is formed by a stem 5 in which the power supply lines are located.
The axis of the lamp 4 and thus also the stem axis 5 are perpendicular to the rear wall of the prism body 1 (the one cathode surface), which further reduces the size of the apparatus, since the stem diameter in this case crosses at right angles with the axis of the cylinder camera and with the length of the cylinder camera combined gives only a small measure.
The apparatus described in this way eliminates all of the deficiencies cited at the beginning. The apparatus is very small and no larger in size than a normal larynx mirror. The targeting of the larynx is done via the mirrored hypotenuse surface in the same way as a normal laryngoscopy. The photographic light source is located in the immediate vicinity of the larynx to be recorded, so that brief snapshots can be taken without disturbing the patient by thermal radiation. By using a pinhole camera, it is not necessary to focus on the film, so that the upward and downward movements of the larynx do not interfere.
