PATENT. ANSPRÜCHE :

Process for the production of viscose.
The viscose processing industry has an interest in producing ready-to-use viscose in the shortest possible time using simple means, in particular viscose in which the cellulose molecule is in as little damage as possible. Up to now, the viscose has mostly been produced in separate operations by dipping the cellulose, pressing it off from the excess lye or throwing it off. then frayed, sulphided, dissolved and, if necessary, allowed to mature. A working time of at least 15 hours was required for this, provided that any maturation is avoided.
Proposals have already been made to produce a ready-to-use viscose in a considerably shorter time, but it was always necessary to use low temperatures at some point in the working process, which made production considerably more expensive.
It is also already known to proceed in the production of alkaline materials without pressing, but it was necessary to comminute the material to be alkalized very strongly, e.g. B. fibrous to dusty. The process also takes a considerable amount of time, as the alkali cellulose was present in the usual form and as such was converted into xanthate by sulfiding, which was then dissolved.
The present invention relates to the production of a completely clear viscose solution in a few hours. The process is based on the fact that alkalizing, sulfiding and dissolving can be carried out in a continuous process and in the same vessel. An essential feature of the invention is that the cellulose-lye mixture is sulfided with a consistency of at most 25% cellulose without any removal of liquid and the sulfided mass, which is already a concentrated viscose, is adjusted to the desired cellulose content by dilution.
It is advisable to use an alkali with about 180/0 sodium hydroxide for alkalization. But you can also use alkalis of higher or lower concentration, with
EMI1.1
must be present so that the formation of the alkali compound of the cellulose still occurs completely.
The working method has the following advantages over the previously known methods:
All operations can be carried out at normal temperature, all operations can be carried out in one working vessel, which means that there is little wear and tear on machines and little labor is required.
Working hours are limited to a few hours. There is no lye waste.
Another advantage of the process lies in the possibility of influencing the viscosity of the finished viscose within wide limits by choosing the concentration of the alkali at the beginning of the process, which in the previous processes is mostly due to the difficult-to-use process of maturing the alkali cellulose Loss of time was sought.
Any desired cellulose material and in any form can be used, depending on the intended use and the demands on the purity of the viscose.

Examples:
1. 100 parts by weight of liquid pulp of the type used to make rayon are mixed in a mixer with 660 parts by weight of 190% sodium hydroxide solution.
As soon as the pulp has been processed into a homogeneous mass, 65 parts by weight of carbon disulfide are added. If the resulting xanthate is diluted with water until the pulp content of the solution is 40/0, the solution has a viscosity of 15 seconds (falling ball method).
2. If 1045 parts by weight of 12 ″ lye are used instead of the 660 parts by weight of 19% lye, then, when diluted to the same weight, with otherwise the same procedure, a viscose of the same composition but with a viscosity of 50 seconds.
