The subject matter of the invention is a method for inserting drinking straws or straws into paper sleeves and the device operating according to this method.
For hygienic reasons, the drinking straws that are put into circulation are usually wrapped in cigarette paper envelopes that are closed on all sides. The usual process in the production of these drinking straws enclosed in sleeves is that the sleeves are separated from a sleeve strand in a length that exceeds the length of the straws. The stalks are manually or mechanically lifted into the sleeves, which are open at the ends, and the ends of the same protruding on both sides of the stalk are then closed mechanically.
This work process has the disadvantage that the mechanical introduction of the straw into the sleeve requires a squeegee or pusher which must have a long stroke and empty when it goes back. As a result, the performance of machines working in this way is very limited.
Another difficulty arises when separating the stalks from the stacking box. The stalks are usually curved and therefore cannot be removed individually along their entire length in the grooves of a drum. If the grooves are adapted to the cross section of the straws, only the straight straws get into the grooves. If the grooves are made wide so that curved stalks can also be processed, two straight stalks are placed in a groove and cause disturbances. For this reason, the straws are often inserted into the grooves of a transport device by hand.
The method according to the invention overcomes these difficulties in the following way. To insert the straws into the pods, the tube strand is placed on the resting straw before the tube has been separated from the strand. This eliminates the need for a long-stroke bump and enables the machine to perform significantly better. In order to remove the Süohhalme individually from the container, the Trausportmittel only grips them in the middle instead of, as has been the case up to now, along their entire length or at the ends. On the short length of the narrow, only in the middle of the straw

no significant expansion of the grooves of the means of transport.
The machine working according to this method is characterized by the interaction of two means of transport, e.g. B. a narrow drum with finer, hook-shaped, im
Basically grooves corresponding to the approximate cross-section of a straw, with a wide drum with wide grooves into which not only a curved straw but also the paper tube, which has a much larger diameter, can freely enter. The narrow drum takes the individual straws from the container and puts them into the wide grooves of the second drum. The latter is switched step by step and is attached in such a way that during the switching pauses a groove in the drum lies in the extension of the center line of the tube strand so that the advancing strand easily hits the groove in the drum.
The end of the straw that protrudes slightly from the groove of the drum is raised a little by means of a centering device so that its center coincides with that of the sleeve and the latter easily slips over the straw, whereupon the sleeve is separated from the rod by means of scissors.
Now the straw lies in the sleeve so that its ends match on the side opposite the scissors. When the drum is switched on, a slide hits the sleeve during the next switching pause, which pushes the straw inside a little and turns it into a symmetrical one

the drum through a device which closes both ends of the sleeve at the same time, to a transport means, which deposits them in a collecting box.
The device according to the invention is illustrated schematically in an exemplary embodiment in the accompanying drawing, u. Between FIG. 1 is a side view and FIG. 2 is a front view of the device; 3 shows the centering device in a side view.
The straws are placed by hand in a container 1 into which a narrow drum protrudes. The latter is attached to the shaft 3 and rotates continuously with it. The drum 2 is provided with fine axial grooves which are dimensioned so that they can only accommodate one stalk.
In addition, a rotating brush 4 is provided on the shaft 5, which also has the effect that only one straw is carried along in each groove of the drum 2. Subsequent to the drum 2, a wide drum 6 is attached to the shaft 7, which is provided with axial grooves, the cross-section of which is dimensioned so that not only a straw can freely lay into the groove, but also the paper tube, whose diameter is substantial is larger than that of the stalks, is freely received in the groove. The drum 6 is switched step by step and is arranged in relation to the drum 2 in such a way that the straw falls from the groove of the drum 2 into the opposite groove of the drum 6 during the pauses in watching.
When the latter is switched on, the groove provided with a straw comes into such a position that the center line of the groove coincides with that of the sleeve strand, so that the front end of the latter hits the groove when the strand is pushed forward, where it slips over the straw . In order to prevent the end of the sleeve from hitting the straw lying in the groove, a centering device, such as a fork, is provided. M ', which lifts the end of the straw projecting beyond the drum and aligns its center with that of the tube strand at the moment the tube hits the strand. The fork 14 ′ is attached to a lever 15 which swings up and down under the action of a thumb disk 16.
The sleeve slipped over the tap is then separated from the rope by means of scissors and until it reaches the stop against which the straw is resting. advanced. In the next pause in the circuit, a pusher 9 penetrates the open sleeve and lays the straw symmetrically with respect to the ends of the sleeve. The latter then arrives at a device which closes both ends of the sleeve at the same time. This device consists

however, rotate in the opposite direction.
The sleeve falls out of the groove of the drum onto the corrugated wheels 10, 11, is grasped by them and closed transversely to the longitudinal direction by corrugation. The sleeve then falls onto a conveyor belt 12 which is tensioned on rollers 13, 14, one of which is driven by the machine and the belt
