Verfahren zur Umwandlung von Strom-bzw. Spannungsschwankungen in Licht- schwankungen.

Process for converting electricity or. Voltage fluctuations in light fluctuations.
The invention relates to a Glühkathodenampe with such a gas filling that the light intensity of the discharge is controlled by voltage fluctuations of the grid, and consists in that the grid consists of a double grille or double grille, the bars or holes are offset from each other so that The grid shields the light emitted by the heating cathode from the inside of the lamp.
In the drawing, a cathode lamp for performing the method is shown schematically.
The cathode lamp consists of a glass envelope j !, at the upper end of which the anode 2 is located, which is connected to the positive pole 3. The cathode complex is formed by a mercury body 4 and a heating coil 6, the mercury being in a cup-like recess 6 at the bottom
End of the glass container 1 is located. The heating current supply wires 7 and 8 lead to the heating coil.
The power supply to the cathode takes place in such a way that the negative pole of the anode current to the
Heating wires is applied. The grid 9 surrounds the cathode in an arc shape and is applied via the wire 10 to the variable voltage of the controlling current. It must be avoided that the
Heating coil J disrupts and influences the intensity of the arc inside the tube through the light it emits; Therefore, according to the invention, it is designed in the manner of a double grate or double sieve in such a way that the grate bars or sieve holes of one layer are offset from the other layer, in which way resistance is opposed to the linear beam path of the light at all points of the grating.
Accordingly, the glowing heating cathode does not shine into the interior of the lamp because it is shielded by the grille, while the mercury vapors and those can pass through the grille without any obstacles. The shielding of the heating coil from the outside, in particular against the reproduced image, must be done because otherwise the light emitted by the heating coil would penetrate the outside, fall on the reproduced image and forfeit the image impression. The lighting current from a constant power source flows between the anode and cathode.
The controlling voltage arriving, for example, from the transmitter of a television set is fed to the grid 9. The mercury vapor generated by the heating coil fills the tube.
If the amplified current, which fluctuates in intensity or voltage, acts on the grid, the current intensity of the lighting current is changed analogously, and the steam lights up more or less in the rhythm of the oscillations, so it gives a stronger one depending on the current strength or voltage or weaker light. The light source generated in this way, fluctuating in strength, is used, for. B. in television or image transmission as a light source for point-by-point transmission.
