Method of obtaining the anterior pituitary hormone.

It is well known that the anterior pituitary hormone can be precipitated from the urine of pregnant warm-blooded animals using suitable organic solvents, but the resulting precipitates are heavily contaminated with salts, including those that are not soluble in water and hold the hormone very firmly so that the The yield from the pure preparation of the hormone is not a satisfactory one.

It has now been found that this rather considerable difficulty can be avoided by removing its calcium content from the urine. This is best done by adding the Alkalibzw. Achieved ammonium salts of acids that form sparingly soluble precipitates with lime, especially those that are sparingly soluble in a weakly acidic environment, such as. B. by adding the salts of oxalic acid.

For example, urine from pregnant warm-blooded animals, which is expediently filtered to remove mechanical impurities or sediments, is mixed with an amount of sodium oxalate solution saturated at room temperature which is sufficient to precipitate total lime and allowed to settle with cooling. After the precipitate has been separated off, a crude solution of the hormone which does not contain any calcium salts remains. If this solution is mixed with suitable organic liquids, e.g. If alcohol is precipitated, a precipitate is formed which, in contrast to the precipitation of the starting urine, now practically completely dissolves in water. The hormone is then expediently freed from the salts that are still attached.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for obtaining the hormone of the anterior pituitary gland, characterized in that the urine of pregnant warm-blooded animals is treated with lime-precipitating agents before the hormone is deposited.
