26 in Umdrehung versetzen.

Process and device for the production of leather pulp rollers for offset and stone printing presses.
The present invention relates to a method and a device for producing leather pulp rollers for offset and lithographic presses. The novelty of the invention is that the roller consists of ground leather (leather dust), hardened oil, which is obtained by boiling linseed oil in varnish, and pulverized copal, and that these components are mixed as a powder. pressed under high temperatures and at high pressure and rolled on by pressure cylinders. Similar machines as for practicing the present method are known, but these known machines serve a different purpose, namely for gluing a layer of other material, e.g. B. rubber, on a leather strip, while in the present case it is about the roller shaping of a special mass.
Artificial leather or a mass for which only oils and vulcanized oil liquids as well as chlorosulfur are used cannot be used for printing press rollers. The pending process results in a peculiar mass in which the advantages are achieved that they can be produced in different degrees of hardness, and that the rollers for offset and stone printing made from it are cheaper than the usual leather rollers and much more durable than the known rubber rollers. The new rollers are also highly elastic, water-repellent, grease-absorbing and insensitive to all types of detergents.
The device for carrying out the present method is shown as an exemplary embodiment in the drawing in a side view.
On the actual. The supports 1 are attached to the machine frame 39 brought into connection with a base plate 40. the collecting container closed with a cover 3 and intended for receiving the roller mass. 8 wear. The raw roll mass. which consists of ground leather (leather dust), powdered copal and oil that has hardened to a certain extent, is thoroughly mixed (mixed as a powder) in the container 2 and falls at 4 between the walls of the heating cylinder 7, 8 and the pressure roller 6.
The heating cylinder 7. is strongly heated by means of gas which is fed in through the line 11 and rotates significantly faster than the pressure roller 6. The axes 9, 10 of these two cylinders are mounted in the bearing blocks 12 sliding in the guide 13 and can pass through Actuation of the screw spindle provided with nuts 14 and counter nuts 15 can be shifted horizontally according to the thickness of the roller 16 to be produced.

is driven by a motor with the mediation of a drive belt 17 or the like.
The gear 19, which is also seated on the axis 10, moves a gear 20 mounted in the guide 13, which transmits the rotating movement to the gear 21 which is in engagement with the large gear 22. The pressure cylinder 6, which is covered with a protective plate 5, is set in rotation by the gear wheel 22. The toothed wheels 23 which are in mesh with the toothed wheel 22 transmit the rotating movement to the toothed wheels 24, which in turn are the solid pressure rollers provided with toothed rings 25. Set 26 in rotation.

nuts 30 provided screw spindles are moved.
On the axis 37 of the one pressure roller 26 a pulley 31 is arranged, of which a drive belt. 35 or the like. The rotating movement on the pulley attached to the shaft 33. 32 transmits. On the axis 33, likewise in a vertically displaceable bearing block which slides in a guide 36 and which can be moved by turning the spindle provided with a nut S8 and a counter nut 3'7. is arranged, a intended for roughening the rotating leather compound roller and suitably provided with wire tips is attached.
The particles falling off during the rolling out of the mass are conveyed through the intermediary of an inclined slide 43 into a container 41 connected to the machine frame 39.
On the upper side of the bearing blocks 12 suitably shaped pointers 4, 2 are attached, which indicate the thickness of the leather mass roller to be rolled on the scale arranged on the upper side of the guide 13.
The mode of operation of the machine is as follows: The pulverized mass falls, as already mentioned, at 4 between the walls of the horizontally adjustable pressure or. Heating cylinder and is melted there by the hot surface of the heating cylinder 7. 8 to a highly elastic leather mass and in this state on the jacket of the z. B. made of wood, massive and replaceable pressure roller 6 applied. The further pressure rollers 26 arranged on the underside of the pressure cylinder 6 press the mass even more onto the cylinder jacket 6. If the resulting leather compound roller 16 has reached the desired diameter, the roughening roller 34 is brought closer to it. which then carries out the roughening of the surface.
The rollers manufactured in this way are highly elastic, water-releasing, fat-absorbing and insensitive to detergents of all kinds.

to acquire.
If you add more leather dust, the mass becomes drier, if you add more hardened oil, the mass becomes more elastic and softer, and if you add more copal, the mass becomes harder, you can even achieve rock-hard rolls.
The hardened oil is crushed or ground and thus converted into powder form, in the same way the copal.
