Device for accelerating the A. bldihlvorgauges in electrically heated bright annealing furnaces.
For certain annealing processes, it is desirable to let the annealing material cool down in the furnace itself. If the goods are to remain bare, the oven must always be airtight during the cooling period. In order to keep the heat losses as low as possible during the actual annealing process, the furnace walls must be well insulated. However, this makes the cooling period disproportionately long, far longer than is necessary for the annealing material itself. The production capability of such a furnace is therefore very limited and the profitability is poor due to the high amortization rate. If, however, the furnace is designed without special thermal insulation, the economic efficiency is also very low because of the large amount of heating energy required.
According to the present invention, in spite of good insulation and correspondingly low power consumption, rapid cooling of the material to be annealed is made possible with permanent exclusion of air.
This is achieved in that the widened, heat-insulating, liftable and lowerable furnace cover is provided with a bell-like extension that conducts heat well, which also closes the furnace gas-tight against the outside air when it is raised.
The closure can slide like a stuffing box on the gas-tight jacket of the furnace body or it can be designed as a liquid closure, as shown for example in the drawing. Fig. 1 shows the furnace during the annealing process, Fig. 2 during the cooling process.
In both cases, the inside of the furnace is completely gas-tight shut off from the outside air. In the figures, a denotes the heating resistors, b denotes the furnace body with the gas-tight sheet metal jacket, c and d denotes the furnace cover, insofar as it consists of masonry. The furnace body b is surrounded by a second jacket e which, together with the jacket c, forms an annular container for the barrier liquid i. The sheet metal bell g, which is connected gas-tight to the cover d and is provided with the float h at its lower end, is immersed in this. The lid weight is almost balanced by counterweights n. The barrier fluid can be let in at i and drained off at k or m.
The inert gas is fed into the furnace interior through line o via a pressure regulator p and flows back through line q via a shut-off valve s and a check valve r. The pressure regulator p prevents the sealing liquid from being sucked into the furnace chamber.
The stove's good thermal insulation prevents heat from escaping to the outside and ensures its good profitability in terms of electricity consumption. By pulling up the bell g of the cover d, a large uninsulated cooling surface is created during the cooling period, which greatly accelerates the cooling process. Depending on whether the bell g is raised more or less high, the cooling process takes longer or shorter time. It is completely up to you to regulate the cooling time within wide limits. Since the bell g of the furnace lid d is lifted by the attached float h from the liquid i of the sealing channel itself, it is impossible for air to enter the interior of the furnace and oxidize the annealing material in any operating state.
The water t can not only enter in the cooling period, but also during the glow period at i and drain through the upper overflow m, whereby the walls of the furnace are constantly cooled. This also dampens the cooling

The liquid seal can, as shown, be formed by a second furnace jacket together with the main furnace jacket or by a special annular vessel or by the furnace and a pit in which the furnace stands.
According to FIG. 3, the outer furnace jacket is also designed to be heat-insulating and is also covered by the cover d, so that it increases the heat insulation of the furnace body during operation of the furnace. As a result, the actual furnace wall b can be kept weaker and the cooling can continue to accelerate during the cooling period. The heat dissipation in this period can in turn be made more effective by using the sealing liquid t as cooling water and allowing it to circulate.
As a further embodiment of the invention, a furnace is shown in FIG. 4, the wall b of which is also relatively thin, so that it allows the heat to pass through more easily during the cooling period. During the heating season, the lid d is responsible for maintaining heat, since the bell-shaped part is also made of heat protection compound t at a height that is approximately equal to the height of the furnace and only its extension of the same length downwards is made of sheet g with good heat conductivity.
Of the many possible modifications to the arrangements shown, it should be mentioned that the furnace lid can also be raised and lowered by means of a crane instead of a float.
