Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for making useful decorative leather from fish skins.
For the production of decorative leather for haberdashery, such as handbags u. Like., The fish skins known in the trade under the name "Caloucha" have been used little despite their beautiful appearance, because they folded along the back line during tanning, rolled up on both sides and easily broke or became unusable with every attempt at stretching or smoothing.
The invention relates to a method by means of which this disadvantage can be effectively remedied and a usable, easy-to-work decorative leather can be produced from such fish skins.
For this purpose, the hides are first limed in "liming" in a known manner and then two pieces of approximately the same size are placed flat on top of each other with the insides flat and around the edges or only in places - advantageously by stitching together - detachably connected and in this state the actual Tanning process and then optionally subjected to a dyeing process.
The back skin pieces of large roe deer from the Dasybatoidei family have proven to be particularly suitable.
