EMI1.1
To control the electrical rear lighting of motor vehicles, it is known to interrupt the circuit of a control lamp with the help of an electromagnet through the current of the tail lamp, so that when the tail lamp current is interrupted
The control lamp's circuit is automatically closed by the armature of the electromagnet and the driver of the vehicle is made aware of the fault in the rear lighting. Furthermore, the proposal has already been made to install the electromagnet and the switching device for the control lamp in the fitting of the tail lamp or to attach the control lamp to the housing of the electromagnet.
In contrast, the invention lies mainly in the special design, according to which the core and the armature of the electromagnet are bell-shaped and hollow and the armature is supported by a bolt that is insulated in the bottom of the core and is also insulated from the armature through which the current of the Control lamp is supplied, which is housed in the interior of the core in a known manner.
This makes it possible in a simple manner to mount the entire switching device with its parts that can be replaced if necessary within reach of the vehicle driver at a location protected from dirt.
In the drawing, which shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, FIG. 1 is a longitudinal section through the device, FIG. 2 is a view from the left of FIG. 1 and FIG. 3 is the circuit diagram.
The device illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2 has a cylindrical jacket 1 made of light metal, to which an annular cover plate 2 is riveted, which is fastened to a wall by means of screws so that the jacket 1 is sunk into it. The cover 3 provided with light openings is detachably attached to a threaded connector 2a of the disk. Inside the jacket 1 there is a magnet coil housing consisting of an iron jacket 4, a hollow iron core 5 and an annular disk 6. The inner diameter of the iron disk 6 is slightly larger than the outer core diameter, so that an annular field opening is present. The core bottom is pierced. A contact sleeve 7, which in turn carries a contact spring 8, is located in the bore, insulated by a sleeve 7a.
A tubular control lamp 9, located inside the hollow core 5 and provided with two contact tips, is pressed by the spring 8 against the cover 3, which is connected by the metal parts 2 and 1 and a line (not shown) to one pole of the accumulator battery (not shown) is. The rear end of the jacket 1 is closed by an insulating disk 10. The distance between the latter and the bobbin case 4, 5, 6 is precisely determined by a spacer ring 11. In this space a bell-shaped armature 12 is enclosed, which is movable within certain limits in a longitudinal direction. A contact and at the same time guide pin 13 is riveted in the bottom of the armature 12, insulated from it.
At one end, this bolt 13 is easily displaceable in the contact sleeve 7. The other end of the bolt carries a riveted contact pin Ma with good conductivity. The whole anchor is going through with this pin

in 'the' center 'penetrating contact 15 pressed. This contact is in turn conductively connected to a fuse holder 17 and a connecting terminal 18 by a connecting plate 16 arranged on the outside of the pane 10.
A connection terminal 19 is connected to one end of the magnet coil 21 by a line 19 a and a second fuse holder 20 is connected to the other end of the magnet coil 21 located in the housing 4, 6 by a line 20 a. 22 is a 2 ampere fuse, held by the two fuse holders 17 and 20. The entire device is usually attached to the equipment board of the automobile, with the housing being sunk into the board. In Fig. 3, the same reference numerals denote the same parts. T is the switchboard and ET the tail lamp of the vehicle's lighting system.
The operation of the device described is as follows: The line 23 coming from the switchboard T of the lighting system is connected to the terminal 18, while the line 24 leading to the rear lamp H is connected to the terminal 19. The rear lamp B is connected to the earth of the engine by the line 24a. If the circuit to the rear lamp is closed by switching on the switchboard, we have the following current flow: From switchboard T via terminal 18 and connecting plate 16 to fuse holder 17 and at the same time to contact 15; further through the fuse 22 to the fuse holder 20, from here through the magnetic coil 21 to the connection terminal 19, from this to the rear lamp H and to ground.
If the installation of the tail light is now completely in order, a current of about 1 ampere will flow through the line. This is now strong enough to excite the electromagnetic coil 21 so strongly to move the armature 12 into the dot-dash position (FIG. 1). In this position, the connection between bolt 13 and contact 15 is interrupted, the control lamp 9 is thus de-energized. If the line has become de-energized due to some defect (interruption in the line, bad contact, defective light bulb), the magnet is not excited either. The armature is thus not attracted, so that the control lamp is energized and begins to glow, which is perceived by the driver through the light openings of the cover 3.
Conversely, if there is a short circuit in the rear lamp line, which happens very often, the control unit also indicates this, because in this case the fuse 22, which is only rated for 2 amps, will blow and the control lamp, which is connected in front of the fuse, will also light up.
The device described is assembled very compactly and the sensitive parts, such as the armature and control lamp, are well protected against external influences. Thanks to its resilient mounting, the control lamp is also protected against bumps and can easily be replaced despite its protected arrangement.
