Verbesserung an katalytischen Heizvorrichtungen.

<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Eine kleine'Röhre v geht vom oberen Teile der'Gaskammer aus und erlaubt die Einführung einer geringen Menge Verdampfungsflüssigkeit. Eine runde Scheibe x aus Asbestpappe gebildet, umgibt den Dochtträger h, der mit laternenartigen Schlitzen versehen ist und nimmt die Verdampfungsflüssigkeit auf, womit sie'dürchsetztwird, während der Überschuss durch die laternenartigen Öffnungen hindurch den Docht am Oberteil befeuchtet ;

Improvement on catalytic heating devices.
The catalytic heating devices used to date have one or more cylindrical wicks of such a diameter that the degree of evaporation cannot exceed the catalytic efficiency of the heating plate. After a certain operating time, however, the upper part of the wick is covered by sticky deposits of the evaporation substance and these are carbonized by the heat, creating a hard mass which prevents the substance to be evaporated from rising near the heating plate by capillary action.
Thus, there were difficulties in practical use of the device and a substantial decrease in the heating effect due to insufficient evaporation, which easily gave rise to unpleasant smells because certain parts of the hot plate were not maintained at the temperature at which the catalytic effect occurs.
Often, as a result of the shrinkage of the cotton due to the repeated moistening

Cotton was loosened.
The invention now relates to such a wick for catalytic heating purposes in which all of these inconveniences are avoided.
An embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing u. Between shows: FIG. 1 a section through the entire device, FIG. 2 the external view of the wick with its various parts.
The cylindrical and hollow wick is made up of two parts, one part a of which is removable and the other part c of which is fixed. Both parts are placed around a tube made of metal gauze d. The removable

held together; the fixed part is sewn to the pipe. A circumferential bulge e of the metal gauze cl indicates the position which the removable wick part a must assume; In order to be protected against excessive heat from the heating plate t, a cover is attached to the upper part of the fitting d;

a spiral spring n pressed, which in turn lies between the lower plate and an inner bead o of the valve d.
This lower circular plate m made of dense cotton fabric is as large as the container p and rests on a pad of coded cotton q. Layers of carded cotton l 'are arranged over the plate m and fill the entire container with the exception of a central opening through which the wick is inserted. A filling opening s with a net-like insert t is used to introduce the liquid fuel. The metal tube d carrying the wick, which is inserted through the opening in the cotton mass, rests with its flanged lid g on the wick carrier h and is held in this position by the friction between the edge of the lid and the wick carrier, possibly also by the catalytic heating plate located above t, and pressed.
The coil spring n generates a pressure between the bottom surface of the wick and the suction plate m on which

the upper layers of cotton rest. Due to capillary action and gravity, the flammable liquid continues to pass from the impregnated mass to the wick. In order to avoid a cooling of the outer edge of the heating plate t against the inside of the upper evaporation cone, a metallic ring u is soldered and riveted to the container, on which the heating plate rests. This creates an annular chamber into which the evaporation gases cannot penetrate.
In order to distribute the evaporation products as evenly as possible over the entire heating plate 1, it is given a different thickness, which decreases from the center towards the edge, the density of the mass of the plate also decreasing from the center towards the circumference.
A small tube extends from the upper part of the gas chamber and allows a small amount of liquid to be evaporated. A round disc x made of asbestos cardboard surrounds the wick carrier h, which is provided with lantern-like slits, and takes up the evaporation liquid, with which it is placed while the excess wets the wick on the upper part through the lantern-like openings;
This introduction of the evaporation liquid immediately before the start-up of the apparatus accelerates the ignition by the wick in the immediate vicinity of the heating plate is ready for evaporation and at the same time causes an insufficiently humidified wick area to be exposed to the heat, which would have to cause charring.
