Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Process for the production of highly acid-resistant (castings.

   The production of highly acid-resistant iron alloys with the silicon content required for this is carried out according to the previously known methods in the manner. that high-percentage ferrosilicon and low-carbon iron are melted down either in the same or in different clay occasions and mixed in such a ratio that the end product has the desired silicon content. All these processes therefore require the use of two different starting materials in the foundry, which makes the process relatively cumbersome.

   In-depth tests by the applicant with various starting materials and various melting opportunities have shown that a highly acid-resistant cast iron that satisfies all requirements can also be achieved in a simple and economical manner. that one merely melts a ferrosilicon alloy with a certain silicon content in a furnace, which excludes an accumulation of carbon and then casts it directly into the casting molds. It is only necessary to take into account that the proportion of silicon in the starting material is chosen to be so much higher than that of the desired end product. that the erosion of silicon occurring in the furnace according to experience is thereby compensated.

   The electric furnace, the oil-fired flame cupola and others which also allow the relatively high temperatures required for the process to be reached are, for example, suitable for sleeping.

   In order to get a good silicon casting, for example Fe-Si of 22% is melted
 EMI1.1
   4% reduced to 18 'o. If necessary, any further additives desired are simultaneously melted down in the furnace. This molten alloy can then be easily poured into the molds.

   PATENT CLAIMS: J. Process for the production of high acid-resistant castings from silicon-containing iron alloys. characterized in that an Fe-Si alloy in a suitable, the inclusion of carbon
 EMI1.2
 The content of the alloy is so much higher than that of the finished castings is selected as corresponds to the experience-based burnup.
