Alkalien.

Manufacture of dye inks.
In addition to the well-known iron-gallus and bluewood-chrome inks, dye inks have also been used on a large scale. When using dyes as inks must always be special
Measures are taken to make the font water-proof.
It has now been found that an ink can be obtained whose writing quickly becomes waterfast by adding small amounts of formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing agents to the aqueous solutions of substantive dyes, suitably containing free alkali. The addition of alkali can be dispensed with especially when the dyes contain free amino or hydroxyl groups.
Suitable compounds such as glycerine, alcohol, phenol, tannin, etc. can be added to the inks, which should be free of precipitation and as low in salt as possible, in order to change the drying time, the light fluidity, etc.

1000 em3. The writing produced with this ink is waterfast after a short time and very soon also real against diluted alkalis.
Example 2: About 12 g of a dye of the general formula given in Example 1 are dissolved in 950 cm3 of boiling distilled water. After cooling and filtering, 50 cm3 of 30% formaldehyde solution are added and the solution is then adjusted to 1000 cm3. The one made with the ink
After a short time, writing is completely watertight.
Example 3: About 10 of a dye of the general formula: p-diamine-azo-aminophenol ether-azo # Aminooxynaphthalene sulfonic acid (ammonium salt) are distilled in 950 cm3 of boiling
Dissolved water. After cooling and filtering, 50% strength formaldehyde solution is added. The writing produced with the ink is immediately after drying against water and against diluted ones
Alkalis.
