Process for the production of photographic papers with a metallic appearance.

The invention relates to a process for the production of photographic papers which use metallic luster to increase the effect of the image.

Methods are known which aim at similar purposes. But they want to achieve the metallic character by adding metal powders to the gelatin layer, which was then hardened. Naturally, this process could not achieve a real metallic character of the picture, since the metal rod always clearly shows the character of a paint.

According to the invention, a metal foil is inserted between the paper and the photographic emulsion, which has been made adherent to both the paper base and the emulsion by a hardened albumin coating.

This metal intermediate layer not only gives the finished photograph a completely metallic character, but also protects the picture against moisture and against warping or throwing, which is particularly important in larger formats. The thickness of the metal foil is of course arbitrary and only depends on the desired strength and rigidity, since the purpose intended according to the invention is achieved with both thin and thick foils.
