Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for the production of metal ornaments.
The subject of the present invention is a method which makes it possible.
To provide iron and steel with decorations that create the impression of real inlaid or incremented work.
It is already known to imitate tanning work on objects with a surface made of copper or its alloys by means of covering8 and galvanic coating and coloring, but only inferior mass-produced articles could be produced in this way. which by no means had a special artistic value.
By the present method, iron and steel can be decorated in such a way that the final product is difficult to distinguish from the real work, thus creating imitations of high artistic word.
The procedure consists in this. that the steel or iron plate to be decorated is provided with a picture or a drawing by lithographic means (by transfer printing) or by means of photographic reproduction or al) - removable cover layers. The plate is then hung in the Nickethad, where it receives an electrolytic deposit of any thickness at the uncovered areas. Now you remove the cover layer and, if you want to have recessed (matt) areas in the pattern, use very dilute nitric acid or other useful substances that only attack the free iron surfaces but do not destroy the nickel deposit.
By covering individual iron spots. by means of a varnish or the like .. you have it in your hand to subject only very specific areas of the pattern to the etching, whereby the most diverse effects can be achieved.
EMI1.1
From the plate covered in this way, the desired (the object is designed and then the finished object is subjected to a hot finishing or oxidation process, with only the areas not covered by nickel /)) r browning and therefore effects are achieved by pressing etc. which are in no way inferior to those caused by the real flaws.
By using iron or steel without pre-treatment. So without previous copper plating, a significant reduction in price and a longer shelf life are achieved, quite apart from the much nicer effect. which is produced by the burnishing.
