Process for the production of hollow drill steels.
The manufacture of hollow drill steels has hitherto usually been done in such a way that a hole made in advance in the drill steel work piece (which is either drilled completely through and then closed at one end or which is not completely drilled through so that a bottom remains), a Filler, e.g. B. a more or less fine-grained material such as silver sand, ground coal or a mixture thereof is filled, after which the hole is also closed at the other end and the workpiece is rolled out to the desired size and finally the filler is removed.
However, this method has the disadvantage that the inner surface of the drill steel becomes more or less grainy, which can give rise to fractures when overexerted. In order to avoid this disadvantage, it has been proposed to replace the filler with a solid core made of metal, for example copper, which is rolled out together with the drill steel workpiece and results in a smooth inner surface. However, like other fillers, this solid core must be removed after rolling, which requires a certain composition of the core and in many cases can present difficulties; In addition, the manufacturing costs are higher than with the older method.
The aim of the invention is to utilize only the advantages of the methods indicated above, and essentially consists in inserting a pipe made of iron or another metal or metal alloy into a hole made in advance in the workpiece, which pipe is connected at one end with the closing of the hole of the workpiece or independently thereof or also. if the hole in the workpiece is not drilled through, it can be left open at the inner end. This pipe is z. B. filled with sand and closed at the end of the filling, after which the rolling is done to the desired dimension, then the filler material is removed.
This means that the inner surface of the steel becomes smooth and that a cheap filler such as sand can be used; also the difficulties in removing the core (sand) are eliminated. The tube, which serves as a protective cover and which forms a thin shell after rolling, can remain in the drill steel or be removed. The pipe, which is made of iron, metal or a

or with a mixture of linseed oil and graphite or the like. Painted, which prevents the
Pipe causes on the hole wall and prevents the filler from getting between the pipe and the hole wall when filling. The filler can also be introduced into the tube prior to insertion into the hole of the drill steel workpiece.
PATENT CLAIMS: 1. A process for the production of hollow drill steels, characterized in that a hole made in advance in the drill steel workpiece is made of iron or another metal or a
Metal alloy existing pipe is used, which z. B. is filled with silver sand or is filled and is closed at the ends, after which the rolling is done to the desired dimension, and finally the filler, possibly also the tube used, is removed.
