Safety device for electrical cable couplings, in particular for
Railway trains or the like.
Safety devices for electrical line couplings, in particular for railroad trains od. The like. Are already known per se, but these do not offer full security for all cases occurring in the company because they do not prevent the main line to be coupled at the same time in which the coupler the clutch operates, even if voltage can only be applied for a short time.
This can create an arc that can seriously injure the coupler and damage the coupling.
The aim of the invention is to eliminate these disadvantages and, in all cases, to force the clutch to be operated in a de-energized state with the main switch open in the simplest way. It is shown in the drawing. Fig. 1 shows the main switch a in the closed state, Fig. 2 in the open state, Fig. 3 shows the plug-in coupling b.
The main switch a arranged on the locomotive or railcar for the line to be coupled can be switched on manually by means of the handle c or electrically by means of the push button d and electromagnet e. It is held in the on position by a locking hook and can be opened electrically by the trigger g or - <jfs or by lifting the lever arm h by hand.
EMI1.1
is excited. By installing a current transformer <h for alternating current or a resistor with a shunt for direct current in the main line (Fig. 2) and a coil Y2 connected to it in the release, the main switch becomes an automatic high current breaker.
In the

train and operate by the trip magnet to achieve the same purpose.
The main line m leads from the main switch a through the whole train; it is easily releasably and reliably connected between two vehicles that are coupled to one another by means of the plug coupling b.
Parallel to the main line, the safety line 11 is also passed through the whole train and the plug-in couplings b. The latter consists of the socket p with a small switch o with a lid q, locking lever l 'and the plug s. The two-armed switch o is grounded through its axis of rotation t together with the housing of the socket p, is closed by the tension spring u and thereby grounds the fuse line n by means of its contact r and the connecting line n1 as long as the plug s is not fully inserted into the socket or the plug is pulled out and the socket is not closed by the lid q.
The plug and cover are provided with lugs w that pass through
EMI1.3
is completely inserted into the box, on the roller z of the switch o and keeps it open as long as the plug is in the operating position or the lid closes the box, the nose y holding the switch open.
The mechanism described above works as follows:
After all couplings of the train have been connected and the socket lids on the ends of the train

Voltage is applied, and the power consumers of the train to be fed by it can be switched on.
If a different composition is to be formed, i.e. uncoupling is necessary, it is not necessary for the coupler to wait until the locomotive or railcar driver has opened the main switch; instead, he can immediately unlock the plug-in coupling and pull out the plug. The earthing switch o is closed automatically and the main switch a; opened long before the main contacts of the plug-in coupling open. So there can be no sparking at these. Closing the main switch 1n too early by the engine driver or another person before or during coupling is effectively prevented by the above-described fuse i-li on the main switch.
The clutch is therefore operated without risk for the operator. By closing the lid q or coupling another car, the earth switch 0 is opened again and the supply line ni is ready to be switched on again.
