Description

Process for the production of negatives from original originals which do not allow transparency.
The present invention relates to a process for the production of peelable negative papers from originals which do not allow transparency, in which colloidal silver halide emulsions are used. In the previously known methods of this type (e.g. D. R. P. No. 117310), the layer support, usually a glass plate, is covered with a collodion layer which carries the light-sensitive emulsion. After exposure and development, the membrane is peeled off and a film is obtained that can be copied onto a metal printing plate.
These films, however, are very sensitive, tear easily, especially when large formats are involved, and change in shape and size, which is extremely annoying, especially with reflex prints that are used in the graphic arts industry. The use of glass plates as a layer carrier also has the disadvantage that copying one or more glass plates onto a metal printing plate is extremely difficult because, on the one hand, the cast plates crack easily and, on the other hand, they are difficult to fit in register.
The subject matter of the present invention remedies this drawback by placing a thin, translucent paper on the substrate, which adheres to a colloid halosilver emulsion as a result of moistening the paper3 or the emulsion layer without the addition of adhesive and, after drying and peeling off, the substrate for the film. Instead of a delicate film membrane, a more useful translucent paper film is obtained.
The process is of particular importance because it has since been well known to achieve reflex copies with silver halide emulsions (so-called player type), but the negatives obtained could not be copied on printing plates in a practical manner. Simply peeling off the negative layer would cause format changes and distort the typographic image. A negative is only obtained by peeling it off on translucent paper, which can be copied onto a print carrier with a short exposure time and which guarantees faithful reproduction. A pretreatment of the paper with an adhesive (gelatin solution or the like) is not necessary since the colloid-haloid silver layer itself has the necessary adhesive strength when it is moist.
