Abstract
Los niveles de elemento traza de mercurio en el crudo de petróleo se reducen haciendo pasar en primer lugar el crudo de petróleo a través de un dispositivo de filtración para generar un crudo filtrado que tiene una concentración reducida de mercurio y una corriente de rechazo que tiene un nivel de mercurio concentrado. En una realización, el dispositivo de filtración se retro-lava para generar la corriente de rechazo. En otra realización, la corriente de rechazo comprende una parte del retenido de un dispositivo de filtro de flujo cruzado. La corriente de rechazo se trata con un agente de extracción seleccionado entre sulfato de tetraquis(hidroximetil)fosfonio; cloruro de tetraquis(hidroximetil)fosfonio; un agente oxidante; un compuesto sulfídico orgánico o inorgánico para extraer una parte del mercurio en una fase acuosa para su posterior eliminación. En una realización, el agente de extracción es un reductante para convertir el mercurio no volátil en mercurio volátil.
