Abstract
La defoliación de las plantas de maíz, con base en el porcentaje de humedad de la semilla, tiene resultados favorables que incluyen un mayor número de semillas por libra, volumen o proporción incrementados de semilla que se puede comercializar por campo y por acre femenino, disminución de la eliminación de semilla debido al tamaño o forma comercialmente indeseable, menor contenido de humedad de semilla durante la cosecha, adelanto de la fecha de cosecha, menos combustible y tiempo usados para el secado de semilla para almacenamiento, rendimiento mejorado en pruebas de germinación en laboratorio a temperaturas frías, eficacia mejorada de tratamiento de semillas, emergencia mejorada bajo estrés en condiciones de campo, plantabilidad mejorada en sistemas mecánicos, densidad de plantío más homogénea, menor número de plantas menos desarrolladas y rendimiento de grano mejorado.
