Abstract

En la carcasa de una máquina rotatoria, se hallan montados juntos, en forma sellada, componentes de fundicion por medio de sellos alojados en cavidades (semi)-cerradas. Un sello de anillo dispone de una base anular y de una falda anular que se extiende axialmente desde la base. Para mejorar las tolerancias de fabricacion, el sello define cavidades intermitentes separadas circunferencialmente, para permitir que el material del sello se deforme dentro de las cavidades, segun se requiera. Las áreas de contacto entre las cavidades tienen superficies en seccion transversal que aumentan progresivamente desde una superficie libre de área pequena, para producir la fuerza compresiva requerida de deformacion, para aumentar exponencialmente, con un exponente mayor a 1. Las cavidades pueden estar periféricamente separadas y abiertas en una superficie del sello externa radialmente. El sello puede ser de material elástico, el cual puede ser incomprensible. La falda pude ahusarse desde la base. La base puede tener un labio de sellado protuberante. La falda pude tener, en el extremo libre, un labio periférico sesgado.
