Abstract
La presente se relaciona en general con un método para la profilaxis y tratamiento de la infeccion de microorganismos en medioambientes biologicos desdedonde los microorganismos adquieren hierro, hemo o porfirina, generalmente pero no exclusivamentepara el crecimiento. Los medioambientes biologicosparticulares contemplados por la presente incluyen, pero no se limitan, a regiones vasculares y cavidades, así como también membranas mucosas en animalesincluyendo mamíferos, reptiles, anfibios y peces, y en especies de aves así como también pezunas de animales de ganado. El método de la presente involucrainterrumpir, reducir o de otra forma antagonizar la interaccion entre un polipéptido derivado de microbio, tal como, pero no limitándose a un polipéptido quetiene actividad de proteinasa de cisteína, y una molécula que contiene porfirina, tal como hemo. La presente además proporciona agentes utiles en la profilaxisy tratamiento de la infeccion microbiana de medioambientes biologicos tales como regiones vasculares y cavidades, incluyendo membranas mucosas así como tambiénpezunas que involucran la adquisicion de hierro, hemo o porfirina. Dichos agentes son particularmente utiles como componentes en composiciones terapéuticas.Las infecciones microbianas particularmente importantes apuntadas por la presente involucran infecciones en la cavidad oral, nasofaringe, orofaringe, vagina yuretra en mamíferos tales como humanos. Otras infecciones microbianas importantes incluyen infecciones de las pezunas en animales de ganado tales como ovejas,ganado vacuno y cabras.
