Axial compression is preferably applied to the can body design to reduce internal deformations during molding of the container. A second embodiment includes the steps of radially deforming the can body project into selected areas in selected amounts to obtain an intermediate can body that is radially modified, yet remains symmetrical about its axis; and superimposing a preselected pattern of mechanical deformations having an axial component on the intermediate can body. Related devices and processes are also described.
