IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,758, dated February 26, 1878 application filed January 4, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,MERRITT S. PRESCOTT, of Otisville,in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved lroning-Table, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section taken on line as a; in Fig. 2, representing my improved ironing-table in position for use. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, showing the table folded up.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, A is a table-top, which is square at one end and rounded at the other, and tapered from the square end toward the round end. A transverse cleat, b, is secured to the under surface of the squared end of the top A, and to its ends the legs 0 c are pivoted. These legs are connected by rounds or bars 0 f g. A transverse cleat, h, is secured to the under surface of the top, at or near the middle of the board, and to its ends the upper ends of the legs 2' are pivoted. These legs are connected by rounds or crossbars j 70 1.
There is a notch, m, in each of the legs 'i, for receiving thecross-bar f when the legs are unfolded and crossed and the table is placed .in position for use, as shown in Fig. 1.
The top is sufficiently supported by the legs when in this position for all light work; but when heavier work is to be done on the table the frame a, which consists of side pieces n and cross-bars n, and is pivoted on the lower cross-bar e,is raised up against the under surface of the table, forming an additional support for the table-top.
I The upper end of the frame n is provided with a pivoted brace, which, when the frame is not employed in supporting the table-top, rests against the cross-bar k, and holds the frame in the same plane with legs 0, affording a support for the portion of skirts and other large garments that would otherwise rest on the floor.
The table is folded for packing away by inverting it and raising the legs a so as to release the cross-barf from the notches m in the legs '5. The legs 0 are now folded against the top A, with their free ends lying toward the rounded end of the top. The frame n is also folded against the top, and the legs i are folded down upon the frame n.
The table is easily set up for use, and when folded together occupies but little space.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An ironing-table consisting of top A, connected pivoted legs 0, and notched pivoted legs i, the frame n, consisting of side pieces 'n and cross-bars n, pivoted on lower crossbar 6, and the pivoted brace O, resting against cross-bar k, as shown and described.
