Be it known that 1, CHARLES E. CALL, a l citizen of the United States of America residing at Grand River, in the county of Lake and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ironing boards and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide an ironing board having detachable members for ironing sleeves and for ironing the shoulders of coats or other gar ments, said members being readily connected to and detached from the board.

Another object of the invention is to provide an ironing board having detachable legs which can be quickly folded to occupy but little space and can be readily utilized for supporting the board.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a sleeve board adapted to be connected to one end of the ironing board by means of keepers, one of said keepers being pivoted under the board and adapted to be swung out of the way for disconnecting the sleeve board and permitting the attachment of a shoulder board to the ironing board.

These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whioh,-

Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of an ironing board made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an underside plan view of the board showing the legs in section and taken in line with the pivotal point of said legs. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section and partial elevation of the ironing board with the legs folded underneath the board and the sleeve board suspended therefrom, while the shoulder board is connected to the ironing board. Fig. t is an underside plan view of the board folded. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the shoulder board detached from the ironing board.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the ironing board proper which may be of the usual or any suitable size and shape. Connected to the underside of the board 1 is a transverse brace member 2 having recesses 3 at the opposite ends thereof to accommodate the upper ends of the detachable legs. A hook 1 is connected by means of a staple to the member 2. Near the rear end of the ironing board is a cross brace 4, and secured to said brace is a guide or keeper 5, said keeper being secured at one end to the ironing board and the opposite end bent and secured to the lower side of the brace 4, and said keeper being spaced from the brace, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. A sleeve board 6 is provided with a superposed shank member 7 having a staple 8 connected to its inner end to engage the keeper 5. A. pair of inwardly extending lugs or keepers 9, 10 are secured underneath the ironing board and are adapted to engage the lower side of the shank member 7 of the sleeve board when the latter is disposed in position for use. The keeper 10 is pivoted upon a pin 11 and adapted to be swung out of the Way to permit the shank 7 to be removed from said keepers and when so removed will swing down into the position shown in Fig. 3 for suspending the sleeve board underneath the ironing board. A detachable shoulder board '12 is provided with an angular base member 13 having a projecting tongue let, said tongue being spaced from the base portion 13 to receive between the same the rear end of the ironing board 1, and the tongue 14: being of the same width as the shank 7 of the sleeve board, so that the keepers 9 and 10 will hold the shoulder board in position when the sleeve board has been detached. On the upper side of the base member of the shoulder board are curved shoulder members 15 connected to the upper side of the base portion and spaced apart. The legs 16 are provided with an upper cross brace 17 and a lower cross brace 18 having corner braces 19. Pivotally connected upon the inside of the legs 16 by means of a cross rod 20 are the folding legs 21 provided with an upper cross brace 22 and a lower brace 23 provided with corner braces 24. When the legs 16 and 21 are eX- tended for supporting the ironing board 1 the upper end of the legs 21 fit within the recesses 3 of the cross brace 2 and the hook 4 engages a staple or eye 25 on the cross brace 22. The upper ends of the legs 16 bear against the underside of the ironing board 1, and the cross brace 17 engages the brace 4; connected to the board 1, thus giving a firm support for the ironing board. When folded, the legs 21 fold within the legs 16, as shown in Figs. 3 and a.

From the fore oing it will be obvious that an ironing board made in accordance with my invention can be conveniently used for pressing garments, the sleeve board 6 being readily placed in position for use and disconnected to be suspended from underneath the board when it is desired to use the shoulder board for pressing coats or similar garments.

I claim 2- 1. An ironing board provided with a detachable sleeve board connected to the ironing board by means of a keeper, a staple, and a pair of lugs, one of said lugs being pivoted to be swung out of the way to permit the sleeve board to depend from underneath the ironing board.

2. An ironing board provided with a keeper, and a sleeve board provided with a staple engaging said keeper, a pair of lugs secured underneath the ironing board for engaging the sleeve board, one of said lugs being pivoted.

3. In an ironing board, the combination of detachable and foldable legs for supporting the board, a sleeve board connected underneath the ironing board by means of a staple and keeper, and a pair of lugs for engaging said sleeve board, one of said lugs being pivoted.
