Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform grinding also with the side surface of a cup wheel for a hard brittle substance and enhance the grinding capability of the cup wheel, by using an electroformed grindstone for the cup wheel and providing projections and recesses on the side surface of the front end of a holder for the electroformed grindstone. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the front end 4a of a metal-made holder 4 for an electroformed grindstone is convexly curved. The electroformed grindstone 5 is produced on the front end 4a. The holder 4 is immersed in a nickel bath such as a sulfamic acid bath in which abrasive grains of diamond, cubic boron nitride or the like are dispersed. The holder 4 is used as one electrode. An electrical current is caused to flow across the holder 4 and another electrode located in the bath. As a result, a nickel bonding material is educed on the front end 4a and the abrasive grains are educed as eutectoid at a high density and firmly held on the bonding material. The electroformed grindstone is thus manufactured. Since projections and recesses 6 are provided on the side surface of the front end 4a, the abrasive grains are sufficiently educed as eutectoid on the side surface to make this surface capable of grinding.
