[Also in Group XVI] A web 6 of rubber delivered from an apparatus for cooling and/or drying the web (see Group XVI) is cut transversely by a rotating knife 25a when a predetermined weight of web has been delivered. The knife 25a is driven by an electric motor 25 and is mounted on a carriage 25b suspended on runners 25c. The carriage 25b is traversed by an endless chain 25d passing over sprockets, not shown, driven by a sprocket 25e driven through a gear-box 25g by a motor 25f. Consecutive cutting operations take place in opposite directions, the knife 25a being stopped at either end of its travel by limit switches, not shown.
