Abstract
1388971 Colour cathode-ray tubes PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 Aug 1973 [26 Aug 1972] 39932/73 Heading H1D A shadow mask type colour cathode-ray tube has triads of phosphor dots in triangular relationships and the average of the distances between the centres of the three phosphor dots associated with each mask aperture at the edge of the screen and the centroid of the triangle defined by the centres is at least 10% less than one third of the distance between a said phosphor dot and an adjacent phosphor dot of the same colour. The distance between the mask and the screen is preferably such that the distance between an electron spot and the two other electron spots produced by beams through the same aperture will be equal to the distance between the first spot and the two adjacent electron spots associated with an adjacent mask aperture. A light absorbing material can surround the phosphor dots. The arrangement is said to improve colour purity at the edges of the screen.
