Abstract

1,102,136. Colour television tubes. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE TELEVISION. 12 May, 1966 [20 May, 1965], No. 21234/66. Heading .H1D. A colour television cathode-ray tube incorporates a screen with red, green and blue luminescent phosphor strips or dots and three adjacent electron guns of substantially equal length, adapted to emit high-intensity electron beams (e.g. 100 ÁA.) toward the different phosphors, respectively, wherein the diameter of the gun (defined as the largest diameter among the cylindrically shaped control, acceleration or focussing electrodes), associated with the blue phosphors is smaller (4 to 5 mm. diameter, for example) than that of the other two guns, 8 to 9 mm. diameter, for example. To promote compactness the blue gun diameter can be reduced below, and spot size proportionately increased above, the normally acceptable values since the brightness of the picture is provided essentially by the red and green components except in large areas of sea, sky and the like where good definition is not important. The axes of the three guns may be substantially aligned with the blue gun in the central position, or the blue gun may be displaced to allow the red and green guns to be mutually closer for instance. Reference is made to oblique phosphor strips horizontally swept by the three beams.
