Abstract

1,253,733. Electric selective signalling. ZELLWEGER Ltd.. 23 Jan., 1969 [12 Feb., 1968], No. 3769/69. Heading G4H. In a remote control system of the kind in which a sequence of pulses is transmitted over power lines to effect a control at a receiver, a signal for controlling an individual device consists of a combination of m of the available n bits, and a master control for simultaneously controlling all the devices of a group consists of combination of p of the available n bits. As described n = 5 and each receiver monitors three of the five bits. In the form of Fig. 1 an individual control signal consists of three "1's" and two "0's". For example in line 1, the individual control signal is 00111. One device is adapted to respond to 00XX1, the positions shown by X being unmonitored. This signal is shown in line 1, column C. Columns D and E show other monitored patterns, the signal 00111 serving also to operate the corresponding devices. A master control signal, has one "1" and four "0's". That in line 0 column C is 00001 and this operates all the devices whose monitored patterns are shown in column C. Similarly the master signal 12 operates all the devices in column D. Each receiver consists of a codedgap switch rotated by a synchronous motor so as to connect to a contact 44, Fig. 3, or contact 46. The switch 34 is operated by the incoming pulse sequence, to switch between contacts 35 and 36. If the sequence of pulses is correct, the switches 34 and 43 never make a common connection to short circuit a switching element 63. The switching element remains conducting and near the end of the cycle, contact 50 closes to apply a control signal to terminal 72. The contact discs of the coded-gap switches may be changed to change the pulse sequence to which a receiver will respond. Instead of using binary valued bits, the "1" and "0" may be signalled by pulses in either of two time positions in each bit slot.
