Abstract

970,179. Electric selective signalling systems. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 12,1963 [Sept. 19,1962], No. 35675/62. Heading G4H. In a field station system a central station cyclically calls upon each field station in turn to transmit indications of the states of switches thereat and while such indications are being transmitted back to the central station the central station can call and transmit control signals to any field station whatever its position in the cyclic sequence. A complete scanning cycle comprises a plurality of field station cycles-one per field station-each of which comprises Fig.1 eight blocks B1 to B8 each comprising eight bit periods p1 to p8. The data transmitted in each cycle by the central station is as follows:- B1 (block 1): the identity of the field station that is being called to transmit its indications; B2: the identity of the field station which is to respond to control signals; B3: the inverse of B1 for checking purposes; B4-B8: con- trol signals. Thus in every cycle block 1 is used but the other blocks are only used when it is desired to transmit controls. The second bit in block 1 is a sync bit and every eighth bit in every block is a parity bit for the block. The central station comprises Fig. 2 an oscillator and counter producing bit p1 to p8 and block B1 to B8 clockpulses, a counter C stepped at B1, p1 time for sequentially calling the field station, and a switch SS for selecting a field station to which control signals set on contacts CS are transmitted. At the field station Fig. 4 called to transmit its indications by block 1 from the central station, the first block is received RX, staticised, and recognized DIC, thereby initiating the transmission back to the central station of indication signals as to the state of various contacts at the field station. These signals are shown in Fig. 3. Block 1 is empty because it corresponds to the period when the call is transmitted. At the field station which is called for control purposes (assuming that one is so called) the cell in block 2 is recognized and verified by block 3 by a circuit D.C.C. which causes the subsequent blocks 4 to 8 to be registered R4 to R8 to effect the required controls.
