Abstract

[Also in Divisions A2 and A4] Previously prepared food comprising liquid and solid components, e.g. gravy and meat, is packaged in a container, a section of which has a well in the bottom thereof containing the liquid separate from and beneath the solid in the container section, so that when, after heating to the desired temperature, the container is inverted to serve the food on to a plate which acts as a lid for the container during storage, the liquid flows on to the solid. In the embodiment described the container 1 has three food sections 4, 5, 6, two of which 4, 6 have wells to separate liquid and solid foods. The well of the section 4 comprises zig-zag recesses 17 in the base of the section, while that of the section 6 is formed by a perforated grid below which the liquid is contained. The three sections fit into apertures in a horizontal wall 3 of the container, where they are retained by detents (9), Fig. 2 (not shown). The horizontal wall 3, Fig. 1, is supported by a vertical wall 1, and has an extension 11 beyond the vertical wall whereby the containers may be stacked when not in use. An upstanding flange 12 ensures vertical alignment during such stacking. A service plate (2), Fig. 4 (not shown), is inverted over the container to form a lid, low ribs (13) defining areas (4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP> , 6<SP>1</SP>) of the plate corresponding to the sections of the container, to receive the food in the respective sections on inversion of the package.
