Abstract

1523485 Partitioned cups R H SPENCER 7 Oct 1975 41012/75 Heading A4A [Also in Division B8] A cup-shaped container 10, closeable by a lid 32, has a bottom wall opening 24 sealed by a removable closure, e.g. an adhesive paper, metal foil or plastics tab 26, and a dissolvable or foraminous element or partition 20 retaining a solid material, such as tea, coffee, or other beverage or a pharmaceutical constituent, at the bottom of the container. In use, liquid is poured into the container and the lid snapped on to the container. The liquid permeates or dissolves the partition to mix with the solid material. The container is then inverted and the closure removed to facilitate drinking of the mixture. As shown, the partition 20 is a starch-based dissolvable element. In a modification, Fig. 1A (not shown), the element is in the form of a perforated plastics or metal shield. The lid 32 has a normally concave central portion 35, which everts to convex form due to air trapped in the container or lid application to indicate that lid has been properly applied. The lid rim 39 provides a stable stand or fast rim for the inverted container. In another embodiment, Figs. 6 and 7- 8, (not shown), the removable closure 62 sealing the bottom wall opening is in the form of a hollow plug in which the solid material is retained by a dissolvable disc 66. In another modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the lid has a recessed central portion facilitating stable stacking of the lidded containers and/or attachment to a plastics tray or plate 80, Fig. 10 (not shown).
