- venting gas VG
- a plurality of venting spaces (VS) may be formed in the bottom member (310). Each of the plurality of venting spaces (VS) may correspond to each of the plurality of cell array structures (100).
- three venting spaces (VS) corresponding to the three cell array structures (100) may be formed in the bottom member (310).
- a plurality of cell array structures (100) can all be accommodated in the first receiving space (S1), and a plurality of venting spaces (VS) corresponding to the plurality of cell array structures (100) can all be provided in a portion of the floor member (310) corresponding to the first receiving space (S1).
- a contact area (CA) may be provided on the floor member (310).
- the contact area (CA) may be defined as an area on the floor member (310) where the cell array structure (100) is in contact around the venting space (VS).
- the cell array structure (100) may be in contact with the periphery of the corresponding venting space (VS) and cover the venting space (VS). For example, referring particularly to FIGS.
- the cell array structure (100) when viewed from the side of the cell array structure (100) (Z-axis direction), the cell array structure (100) may be provided to have a size larger than the venting space (VS) so as to cover the venting space (VS), and the contact area (CA) may be understood as a band-shaped area excluding the area occupied by the venting space (VS) among the areas occupied by the cell array structure (100) on the floor member (310).

- the plurality of venting spaces (VS) may be blocked from the second receiving space (S2). That is, the plurality of venting spaces (VS) may not be in communication with the second receiving space (S2). Specifically, as described above, each venting space (VS) may be blocked from the receiving space (S) by a contact area (CA), and thus the plurality of venting spaces (VS) may also be blocked from the second receiving space (S2).
- CA contact area
- venting space (VS) When a venting space (VS) is provided in a battery pack (10), when a thermal event occurs in a specific battery cell (110) of the battery pack (10), the venting gas (VG) of the battery cell (110) can be discharged into the venting space (VS), thereby preventing heat transfer to an adjacent battery cell (110).
- the venting gas (VG) could not only flow in a limited area of the battery pack (10), but could spread throughout the entire internal space of the battery pack (10).
- the conventional battery pack (10) was vulnerable to heat transfer because the venting gas (VG) could move to a space where an adjacent cell array structure (100) was arranged, and the venting gas (VG) could spread to other spaces where the cell array structure (100) was not arranged, which could cause fatal damage to components other than the cell array structure (100).
- each venting space (VS) is independently provided for each cell array structure (100), and all of the venting spaces (VS) can be sealed by a contact area (CA), so that even if a thermal event occurs in the battery pack (10), the venting gas (VG) can move only through a specific path, not throughout the entire internal space of the battery pack (10).
- each of the venting spaces (VS) can be mutually blocked in the first receiving space (S1), even if a thermal event occurs in a specific cell array structure (100), the venting gas (VG) cannot move to another cell array structure (100), so that the heat transfer phenomenon between the cell array structures (100) can be very effectively prevented.
- the venting spaces (VS) can be blocked from the second receiving space (S2), the venting gas (VG) generated by the thermal event cannot reach components other than the cell array structure (100), so that damage to components other than the cell array structure (100) caused by the venting gas (VG) can be very effectively prevented. Accordingly, the battery pack (10) according to the present invention can significantly prevent secondary occurrence of the thermal event since the venting gas (VG) can only move through the venting space (VS) even if a thermal event occurs.
- At least one electrical component (200) can be accommodated in the second receiving space (S2). That is, the first receiving space (S1) is a space in which a plurality of cell array structures (100) are accommodated in the receiving space (S), and the second receiving space (S2) is a space in which at least one electrical component (200) is accommodated in addition to a plurality of cell array structures (100) in the receiving space (S).
- the electrical component (200) may include, for example, at least one of an electrical unit (210), a CMC (Cell Module Controller) (220), and a bus bar (230).
- the electrical unit (210) may include a BMS (Battery Management System) or a BDU (Battery Disconnect Unit) described below.
- the BMS or BDU of the electrical unit (210) may include a plastic material.
- the electrical unit (210) may include a connector having a plurality of pins arranged therein.
- the CMC (220) may be arranged at the outermost end of the cell array structure (100).
- the bus bar (230) may be understood as an electrical connecting member that electrically connects different cell array structures (100) to each other.
- venting gas (VG) may flow into electrical components (200).
- the plastic part of the electrical unit (210) such as the BMS or BDU, may melt, causing contact between conductors, resulting in a short circuit, which may cause an unexpectedly larger fire.
- the foreign substances contained in the venting gas (VG) flow into the connector of the electrical unit (210), the foreign substances may flow between pins that are very narrowly arranged, causing a short circuit.
- the battery pack (10) can accommodate at least one electrical component (200) as described above in a second receiving space (S2) that is blocked from venting spaces (VS), so that even if a thermal event occurs in the battery pack (10), the venting gas (VG) can be fundamentally blocked from flowing into the electrical component (200), thereby solving all of the problems of the conventional battery pack (10) as described above.
- Fig. 5 is a side cross-sectional view showing the same section as Fig. 1
- Fig. 6 is an enlarged side cross-sectional view showing part A of Fig. 5
- Fig. 7 is an enlarged side cross-sectional view showing part B of Fig. 5.
- the floor member (310) may have a first floor portion (311) and a second floor portion (312).
- the first floor portion (311) and the second floor portion (312) may be spaced apart from each other.
- the first floor portion (311) and the second floor portion (312) may be spaced apart from each other vertically.
- the first floor portion (311) may be arranged on the lower side (-Z direction)
- the second floor portion (312) may be arranged on the upper side (+Z direction) of the first floor portion (311) and spaced apart from the first floor portion (311).
- a venting space (VS) may be formed between the first floor portion (311) and the second floor portion (312) that are spaced apart from each other.
- the venting space (VS) can be more reliably formed in the floor member (310).
- effective weight reduction of the floor member (310) is possible, so that the energy density of the battery pack (10) can be improved.
- an opening (313) may be formed in the second bottom portion (312).
- the opening (313) may be formed in a portion of the second bottom portion (312) corresponding to the first receiving space (S1).
- the cell array structure (100) and the venting space (VS) may be communicated with each other through the opening (313). That is, the venting gas (VG) discharged from the battery cell (110) of the cell array structure (100) may move to the venting space (VS) through the opening (313).
- the cell array structure (100) may be arranged to cover the opening (313) from the upper side (+Z direction) of the opening (313).
- the bottom of the cell array structure (100) may be provided to be larger than the opening (313).
- the contact area (CA) may be a peripheral area of the opening (313) and may be provided to surround the edge of the opening (313). As the cell array structure (100) is contacted in the contact area (CA), the opening (313) may be blocked from the first receiving space (S1).
- the bottom member (310) may have a blocking portion (314).
- the blocking portion (314) may be arranged on the second receiving space (S2) side of the bottom member (310).
- the portion of the bottom member (310) corresponding to the blocking portion (314) may not be empty inside but may be blocked.
- the blocking portion (314), for example, as illustrated in FIG. 7, may be arranged at a position adjacent to the second side wall portion (322) described later, which is located on the opposite side of the venting device (400) described later, in the pack case (300).
- the blocking portion (314) may extend from the second side wall portion (322) described later to the first receiving space (S1).
- a venting space (VS) may not be formed in the blocking portion (314).
- the cell array structure (100) may further include a filling member (120).
- the filling member (120) may be filled between the battery cells (110) and/or under the battery cells (110).
- the filling member (120) may be formed by curing a material such as resin that is filled between the battery cells (110) and/or under the battery cells (110). When a thermal event occurs in the cell array structure (100), the filling member (120) may effectively prevent heat transfer or heat diffusion between the battery cells (110).
- the filling member (120) may increase the heat capacity of the cell array structure (100) to facilitate heat management and protect the battery cells (110).
- the filling member (120) may include a material having insulating properties or high heat capacity.
- the filling member (120) can be in close contact with the adhesion area (CA). Specifically, when the filling member (120) fills the bottom of the cell array structure (100) to form the bottom of the cell array structure (100), the filling member (120) can be in close contact with the adhesion area (CA). As described above, the filling member (120) may include a material having high insulation or heat capacity. When the filling member (120) is in close contact with the adhesion area (CA), the sealing between the venting spaces (VS) or between the venting spaces (VS) and the second receiving space (S2) can be more reliably achieved. In addition, the filling member (120) can effectively prevent heat transfer or heat diffusion between battery cells (110), so when the cell array structure (100) includes the filling member (120), the occurrence of secondary thermal events can be more effectively prevented.
- the cell array structure (100) may be provided with a bottom sheet (121) at the lowermost portion.
- the bottom sheet (121) may prevent a material such as resin from leaking out to the lower portion of the cell array structure (100) when the material is filled.
- the bottom sheet (121) may be formed so thin that it may be broken when venting gas (VG) is discharged from the battery cell (110).
- the bottom sheet (121) may include a resin material.
- FIG. 8 is a perspective view showing an exploded view of a cell array structure of a battery pack according to one embodiment of the present invention.
- the cell array structure (100) of the battery pack (10) may further include a side frame (130, 140).

Description

전장유닛(210)은 후술하는 BMS(Battery Management System) 또는 BDU(Battery Disconnect Unit)를 구비할 수 있다.
