Definitions
- the present invention relates to a vehicle control device capable of autonomous driving control.
- Stopping assistance technology has been developed for some time as a driving assistance device for vehicles.
- One example of such technology is a technology that slows down the vehicle and brings it to a stop near the shoulder of the road when approaching a designated stopping location.
- Another technology is one that, when a physical abnormality in the driver is detected, sets one of multiple stopping point candidates that will take less than a target time as the stopping point, and stops the vehicle on behalf of the driver (see Patent Document 1).
- a target trajectory (target route) along which the vehicle can travel from the lane it is traveling in until it stops along the shoulder must be set in accordance with the shape of the shoulder and the surrounding environment.
- the target trajectory may be repeatedly generated and updated in response to changes in the shape of the shoulder and the surrounding environment obtained from information detected by external sensors (such as on-board cameras and radar).
- external sensors such as on-board cameras and radar.
- lane change and starting vehicle driving control also requires setting a target trajectory in response to the surrounding environment, which raises concerns that, like stopping as mentioned above, this could place an excessive computational load on the vehicle control device.
- the present invention was made to solve the above problems, and its purpose is to provide a vehicle control device that can reduce the processing load required to generate a target trajectory (target route) used for autonomous driving.
- the present application includes multiple means for solving the above problem.
- a vehicle control device includes a processor configured to acquire a reference position of a road on which the vehicle is traveling, acquire one target route from at least one target route for the vehicle whose shape has been defined in advance, position the acquired target route either as is or by modifying its shape so that the reference position is located on the acquired target route, and control the traveling of the vehicle so that it travels along the positioned target route.
- the processing load for generating a target trajectory used for performing autonomous driving can be reduced.

- Figure 3 is a flowchart showing an example of a processing procedure for selecting a type of driving control in a vehicle control device according to one embodiment. Note that the selection of the type of driving control does not necessarily have to follow the processing in this flowchart.
- the vehicle control device 1 first acquires various information, such as vehicle 100 driving information and vehicle 100 surrounding environment information, from the vehicle sensor 110 and the external sensor 120 (step S10). Next, it determines whether it is possible to acquire vehicle 100 position information (self-position) from the vehicle sensor 110's vehicle driving information, etc. (step S20). If it is not possible to acquire vehicle 100 position information (self-position) (NO), the process returns to step S10, where detection information from the vehicle sensor 110 and the external sensor 120 is acquired, and the process of step S10 is repeated until it is possible to acquire vehicle 100 position (self-position). Steps S10 and S20 are used to confirm the input status of information necessary for the target trajectory for driving control.
- various information such as vehicle 100 driving information and vehicle 100 surrounding environment information
- step S30 If it is determined that the position of the vehicle 100 (self-position) can be acquired (YES), it is determined whether all sensors constituting the vehicle sensor 110 and the external sensor 120 are normal (step S30). If an abnormality is detected in any of the vehicle sensor 110 or the external sensor 120 (NO), the control flow ends without executing the target trajectory generation process (step S70). In other words, if a sensor abnormality is detected, a fail process is performed to end the driving control of the vehicle 100 to stop and change lanes.
- step S40 determines whether the driving control is for a lane change. If it is determined that the driving control is for a lane change (YES), lane change driving control is executed (step S200). Details of lane change driving control (generation of a target trajectory) will be described later. On the other hand, if it is determined that the driving control is not for a lane change (NO), stopping driving control is executed (step S100). Step S40 selects the type of driving control for a lane change or stopping, and depending on the selection result of step S40, the system may transition to a flowchart for generating a target trajectory for lane change or stopping driving control. Note that although starting driving control is not included in the flow of Figure 3, this may be added as appropriate.

- the vehicle control device 1 executes the processing shown in the flowchart in Figure 4.
- the vehicle control device 1 (self-position estimation unit 32) first acquires driving information from the vehicle sensor 110 and acquires the position information (self-position) of the vehicle 100 based on the driving information of the vehicle 100 (step S110).

If it is determined in step S130 that there is no area where the vehicle can be parked (NO), processing continues until it is determined in step S130 that there is an area where the vehicle can be parked (YES). On the other hand, if it is determined in step S130 that there is an area where the vehicle can be parked (YES), processing proceeds to step S140.
- the stopping space information S indicates a two-dimensional area (space) required to stop the host vehicle 100, and is determined in advance based on the specifications of the host vehicle 100, etc.
- the stopping space information S is stored in advance in the storage device 2, for example.
- step S130 corresponds to the situation transitioning from the left diagram to the center diagram in Figure 5.

- step S130 determines that a stopping area is available (YES)
- the vehicle control device 1 (basic shape pattern acquisition unit 35) reads and acquires one basic shape pattern from the basic shape pattern storage unit 22 (step S140).
- the vehicle control device 1 (reference position acquisition unit 34 and target trajectory generation unit 36) generates a target trajectory 36t by arranging the position information (self-position) of the host vehicle 100 acquired in step S110, the host vehicle 100's stopping area R acquired in step S130, and the basic shape pattern 22b acquired in step S140, either as is or after modification (step S150).
- a stopping position is set as a reference position in the stopping area R.

- Figure 7 is an explanatory diagram showing an example of a method for generating a target trajectory using multiple core shape patterns in a vehicle control device according to one embodiment.
- the method of generating the target trajectory of the vehicle control device 1 is characterized by using the basic shape pattern 22b stored in advance in the storage device 2 (basic shape pattern storage unit 22) as the material for the target trajectory 36t.
- the basic shape pattern 22b of a driving route the shape of which is predetermined from one end to the other, as the material and modifying it in accordance with the reference position (stopping position R) for driving control for stopping, it is possible to reduce the processing load on the vehicle control device 1 for generating the target trajectory compared to a configuration in which the target trajectory is repeatedly generated and updated in accordance with external information from an external sensor.
- the illustrated basic shape pattern 22b of the travel route is a shape of a travel route that continues from one end of the route to the other, and is an example of a defined shape of a travel route that includes a route that proceeds diagonally relative to the extension direction of the route.
- the basic shape pattern 22b of the travel route is defined, for example, to have a route shape that can avoid impairing the riding comfort of passengers when the vehicle 100 changes course, and preferably has a shape similar to an S-shape, as shown in the diagram on the left side of Figure 6.
- the vehicle control device 1 (reference position acquisition unit 35) can use at least the stopping position, which is a position ahead of the own position of the vehicle 100 and a stopping position that is a position in the stopping area R, as a reference position for driving control when stopping.
- the stopping position which is a position ahead of the own position of the vehicle 100 and a stopping position that is a position in the stopping area R, as a reference position for driving control when stopping.
- the vehicle control device 1 (target trajectory generation unit 36) generates a target trajectory 36t (right diagram) whose start point 36s is a position ahead of the own position of the vehicle 100 and whose end point 36e is the position in the stopping area R (stopping position) by performing a deformation that enlarges the basic shape pattern 22b (left diagram) in accordance with the positional relationship between the position ahead of the own position of the vehicle 100, which is the reference position, and the position in the stopping area R (stopping position).
- the vehicle control device 1 can generate the target trajectory 36t simply by deforming the basic shape pattern 22b in accordance with at least the position of the stoppable area R (stopping position). - the vehicle control device 1 (target trajectory generation unit 36) can generate a target trajectory 36t according to the recognition information of the surrounding environment of the vehicle 100 by setting either a position ahead of the vehicle's own position or the position of the stoppable area R (stopping position) as a reference position and performing deformations such as enlarging/reducing and inverting the basic shape pattern relative to the set reference position.
- the storage device 2 of the vehicle control device 1 can also be configured to store multiple core shape patterns, for example.
- the storage device 2 pre-stores three different core shape patterns 22b1, 22b2, and 22b3 as core shape patterns for driving routes.
- a position ahead of the vehicle's own position is set as the reference position, serving as the start point 36s of the target trajectory 36t
- the position of the stoppable area R (stop position) is set as the reference position, serving as the end point 36e of the target trajectory 36t.

- Figure 10 is an explanatory diagram showing a third example of a method for selecting a target trajectory when multiple core shape patterns are used in a vehicle control device according to one embodiment.
- the vehicle control device 1 can use, as a first method for selecting one optimal target trajectory from a plurality of different target trajectories, the angle of the trajectory that allows for a lane change on the generated target trajectory 36t as a criterion, as shown in FIG. 8, for example.
- the target trajectory 36t generated by the vehicle control device 1 includes a lane-changing driving path that proceeds diagonally with respect to the extension direction of the own vehicle lane 301.
- the vehicle control device 1 can select the target trajectory 36t based on the maximum angle ⁇ of the lane-changing driving path according to the vehicle speed V of the own vehicle 100. Specifically, it is preferable to select the target trajectory 36t with the smaller maximum angle ⁇ as the vehicle speed V increases. For example, as shown in FIG.
- two target trajectories are generated: a target trajectory 36t1 having a maximum angle ⁇ 1 and a target trajectory 36t2 having a maximum angle ⁇ 2. If the maximum angle ⁇ 1 is greater than the maximum angle ⁇ 2, it is preferable to select the target trajectory 36t1 having the relatively larger maximum angle ⁇ 1 when the vehicle speed V is equal to or less than a predetermined value Vth. On the other hand, when the vehicle speed V exceeds a predetermined value Vth, it is preferable to select a target trajectory 36t2 having a relatively small maximum angle ⁇ 2.
- the predetermined value Vth for the vehicle speed when selecting the target trajectory 36t can be set based on either the lateral acceleration or the vertical acceleration alone, or on a combined acceleration of the lateral acceleration and the vertical acceleration.
- the vehicle control device 1 of this embodiment can use the steering angle ⁇ of the generated target trajectory 36t as a second method for selecting one optimal target trajectory from a plurality of different target trajectories, for example, as shown in Figure 9.

Specifically, it is preferable to select a target trajectory 36t with a smaller steering angle ⁇ as the vehicle speed V increases.
- two target trajectories are generated: a target trajectory 36t1 with a steering angle ⁇ 1 and a target trajectory 36t2 with a steering angle ⁇ 2.

- the boarding/alighting location can be acquired, for example, by referencing map information.
- the target trajectory 36t is generated so that the region R1 where the other vehicle 200 is stopped has the end point 36e. Therefore, the vehicle control device 1 stops the vehicle 100, which is traveling along the target trajectory 36t, at a position before reaching the other vehicle 200 until the other vehicle 200 is no longer at the stop position 36e.

- the vehicle control device 1 searches for an area where the vehicle can stop using recognition information about the surrounding environment of the vehicle 100 and stopping space information S while continuing to travel in the vehicle's lane 301.
- the stopping space information can be configured as information that specifies the required space size to vary depending on time information, for example.
- the time information indicates a daytime period
- the detection information from the external sensor 120 will be highly accurate, so it is possible to configure the stopping space information S1 for that period to be defined as a relatively narrow area.
- the time information indicates a nighttime period
- the vehicle control device 1 acquires a reference position of the road on which the vehicle 100 is traveling, acquires multiple key shape patterns from multiple key shape patterns whose shapes are defined in advance, generates a target trajectory by arranging the acquired multiple key shape patterns so that the reference position is located on a target trajectory that combines the acquired multiple key shape patterns, and controls the traveling of the vehicle 100 so that the vehicle travels along the target trajectory.
- Figure 13 is an explanatory diagram showing a modified example of the method for generating a target trajectory in a stopped vehicle travel control of a vehicle control device according to one embodiment (a method for generating a target trajectory that includes a turnaround).
- the vehicle control device 1 can generate a target trajectory 36t (right diagram) whose start point 36s is a position ahead of the vehicle's own position 100 and whose end point 36e is the position of the stoppable area R (stopping position) by deforming (enlarging) the basic shape pattern 22b (left diagram) of one driving route to correspond to the position of the stoppable area R (stopping position) which serves as the reference position for driving control of stopping.

- the stopping space information can be configured as information that specifies the size of the space required to vary depending on the status of parked vehicles on the shoulder of the road (road environment information).
- the stopping space information includes stopping space information S1 that indicates an area where a vehicle can be stopped using a target trajectory that can be generated by modifying one basic shape pattern 22b, and stopping space information S2 that indicates an area that is narrower than stopping space information S1 and where a vehicle can be stopped using a target trajectory that includes a turn.

- Figure 15 is an explanatory diagram showing an example of a method for generating a target trajectory in lane change cruise control by a vehicle control device according to one embodiment.
- the vehicle control device 1 executes the processing of the flowchart shown in Figure 14.
- the vehicle control device 1 (surrounding environment determination unit 33) first acquires driving information from the vehicle sensor 110 and obtains position information (self-position) of the vehicle 100 based on the driving information of the vehicle 100 (step S205). Next, it acquires information about the environment surrounding the vehicle 100 (external information) from the external sensor 120 and obtains recognition information about the environment surrounding the vehicle 100 based on the external information (step S210). Next, the vehicle control device 1 (surrounding environment determination unit 33) determines a driving lane (adjacent lane 302) to change lanes from the current lane 301 based on the recognition information about the environment surrounding the vehicle 100 acquired in step S210 (step S220).
- the vehicle control device 1 (basic shape pattern acquisition unit 35) reads and acquires one basic shape pattern for the host vehicle 100 to change lanes from at least one basic shape pattern stored in the basic shape pattern storage unit 22 (step S230).
- the basic shape pattern of the travel route used in lane change travel control may be the same as the basic shape pattern used in stopped travel control, for example.
- the vehicle control device 1 (reference position acquisition unit 34 and target trajectory generation unit 36) generates a target trajectory 36t (step S240) based on the recognition information of the surrounding environment of the vehicle 100 acquired in step S210, the driving lane (adjacent lane 302) for the lane change determined in step S220, and the basic shape pattern 22b of the driving path acquired in step S230.
- the target trajectory 36t is generated by deforming and adjusting the basic shape pattern 22b of the driving path with respect to the acquired reference position.
- the vehicle control device 1 sets the position of the vehicle 100 predicted at a future time a predetermined time after the processing time as the reference position, as the start position Ls of lane change driving control, based on the vehicle's own position acquired in step S205, the recognition information about the vehicle's surrounding environment acquired in step S210, and vehicle speed information, which is one of the driving information from the vehicle sensor 110.
- the vehicle control device 1 acquires the end position Le of lane change driving control as the reference position.
- the vehicle control device 1 (reference position acquisition unit 34) arranges the basic shape pattern 22b (not shown) by enlarging, reducing, or inverting it to correspond to the positional relationship between the start position Ls and end position Le as reference positions for lane change driving control, and generates a target trajectory 36t using the arranged basic shape pattern 22b as a material.
- the method for generating the target trajectory 36t from the basic shape pattern 22b is the same as for driving control when the vehicle is stopped.
- the vehicle control device 1 transforms the basic shape pattern 22b so that one end and the other end of the transformed basic shape pattern 22b coincide with the start position Ls and end position Le of lane change driving control as reference positions, thereby generating a target trajectory 36t whose start point 36s and end point 36e are the start position Ls and end position Le.
- the start position Ls and end position Le is set as the reference position for lane change cruise control, it is possible to generate the target trajectory 36t.
- the method of setting the start position Ls as the reference position for lane change cruise control, as shown in FIG. 15, can also be applied to setting the reference position for stopped vehicle cruise control. That is, based on the recognition information of the surrounding environment of the vehicle 100 and the vehicle speed information of the vehicle 100, the position of the vehicle 100 predicted at a future time a predetermined time after the processing time can be set as the reference position for the start position of stopped vehicle cruise control. Furthermore, if multiple target trajectories are generated, a target trajectory can be selected using the same criteria as for stopped vehicle cruise control (see FIGS. 8 to 10).
- the vehicle control device 1 calculates a driving command to cause the host vehicle 100 to drive (change lanes) along the target trajectory 36t generated in step S240, and controls the output of the drive source 102, the steering angle and steering force of the power steering 104, and the braking force of the brake 105 (step S250).
- the vehicle control device 1 While controlling the host vehicle 100 to drive along this target trajectory 36t, the vehicle control device 1 (surrounding environment determination unit 33) determines whether or not there is an obstacle in the lane for the lane change determined in step S220 (in FIG. 15, the adjacent lane 302 on the left) based on the recognition information of the host vehicle 100's surrounding environment obtained from the external information of the external sensor 120 (step S260).
- step S260 If it is determined in step S260 that there is an obstacle in the lane for the lane change (YES), the ongoing lane change is aborted, and the process returns to step S210 to restart the lane change process. That is, the processes of steps S210 to S260 are performed again.
- the vehicle control device 1 can also be configured to return the vehicle 100 to the original lane 301 before the lane change and then perform the lane change again. If it is determined in step S260 that there is no obstacle in the driving lane of the lane change (NO), the vehicle control device 1 determines whether the lane change is complete (step S270). If it is determined in step S270 that the lane change is incomplete (NO), the process returns to step S250 and continues lane change driving control until it is determined in step S270 that the lane change is complete (YES).
- the method for generating a target trajectory in lane change driving control of the vehicle control device 1 is also characterized by using the basic shape pattern 22b of the driving route pre-stored in the storage device 2 (basic shape pattern storage unit 22) as the material for the target trajectory 36t.

- Figure 16 is a flowchart showing an example of the processing procedure for cruise control at start-up by the vehicle control device according to one embodiment shown in Figure 2.
- Figure 17 is an explanatory diagram showing an example of a method for generating a target trajectory in cruise control at start-up in a vehicle control device according to one embodiment.
- the vehicle control device 1 self-position estimation unit 32 first acquires driving information from the vehicle sensor 110 and obtains position information (self-position) of the vehicle 100 based on the driving information of the vehicle 100 (step S310).
- the vehicle control device 1 (surrounding environment determination unit 33) acquires information on the surrounding environment of the vehicle 100 (external environment information) from the external environment sensor 120 and obtains recognition information of the surrounding environment of the vehicle 100 based on the external environment information (step S320).
- the vehicle control device 1 (basic shape pattern acquisition unit 35) reads and acquires the basic shape pattern of the driving route from the basic shape pattern storage unit 22 (step S330).
- the basic shape pattern of the driving route can be configured to use the same basic shape pattern as used for driving control when the vehicle is stopped, or it can be configured to use a newly prepared basic shape pattern for driving control when starting.
- the vehicle control device 1 (reference position acquisition unit 34 and target trajectory generation unit 36) generates a target trajectory 36t (step S340) based on the position information (self-position) of the vehicle 100 acquired in step S310, the recognition information of the surrounding environment of the vehicle 100 acquired in step S320, and the basic shape pattern 22b acquired in step S330.
- the target trajectory 36t is generated by deforming and adjusting the basic shape pattern 22b of the driving path with respect to the set reference position, just as in driving control for stopping and changing lanes.
- the vehicle control device 1 sets the position information (self-position) of the host vehicle 100 acquired in step S310, i.e., the departure position where the host vehicle 100 starts while stopped, as the reference position for departure driving control. Furthermore, based on the recognition information of the surrounding environment of the host vehicle 100 acquired in step S320, the end position of departure driving control may be set as the reference position.
- the vehicle control device 1 (target trajectory generation unit 36) generates a target trajectory 36t using the basic shape pattern 22b of the driving route as a material by enlarging, reducing, or inverting the basic shape pattern 22b of the driving route in accordance with the positional relationship between the departure position as the reference position and the end position of departure driving control.
- the method of generating the target trajectory 36t from the basic shape pattern 22b of the driving route is the same as in the case of stopping and changing lanes.
- the vehicle control device 1 (target trajectory generation unit 36) generates a target trajectory 36t in which the starting point 36s is the starting position and the control end point 36e is the end point by deforming the basic shape pattern 22b of the driving path so that one end and the other end of the deformed basic shape pattern 22b of the driving path coincide with the starting position and the control end position as reference positions.
- the basic shape pattern 22b for driving control when the vehicle is stopped
- the basic shape pattern 22b must be at least flipped upside down or left-right. This is because the direction of lane change is opposite between the driving path for driving control when the vehicle is stopped and the driving path for driving control when the vehicle is started.
- the vehicle control device 1 may generate the target trajectory 36t by determining the left and right positions of the acquired basic shape pattern 22b and arranging it so that the starting position is located on the acquired basic shape pattern 22b.
- the vehicle control device 1 calculates a driving command to cause the host vehicle 100 to drive along the target trajectory 36t generated in step S340, and controls the output of the drive source 102, the steering angle and steering force of the power steering 104, and the braking force of the brake 105 (step S350). While controlling the host vehicle 100 to drive along this target trajectory 36t, the vehicle control device 1 (surrounding environment determination unit 33) determines whether or not there is an obstacle on the lane 302 after starting, based on recognition information about the surrounding environment of the host vehicle 100 obtained from external information from the external sensor 120 (step S360).
- step S360 If it is determined in step S360 that an obstacle is present on the post-start lane 302 (YES), the vehicle control device 1 (driving control unit 37) suspends the driving of the host vehicle 100 along the target trajectory 36t (step S370). Next, the vehicle control device 1 (surrounding environment determination unit 33) returns to step S360 and again determines whether or not there is an obstacle on the post-start lane 302, and continues to suspend the driving of the host vehicle 100 along the target trajectory 36t until it is determined that there is no obstacle on the post-start lane 302 (NO) (step S370).
- step S380 determines whether the start has been completed. If it is determined in step S380 that the start has not been completed (NO), the vehicle control device 1 returns to step S350 and continues to control the start of the host vehicle 100 along the target trajectory 36t until it is determined in step S380 that the start has been completed (YES). In other words, the vehicle control device 1 repeats the processing of steps S350 to S380 until the start has been completed.
- the method for generating a target trajectory in the driving control of starting by the vehicle control device 1 is also characterized by using the basic shape pattern of the driving route pre-stored in the storage device 2 (basic shape pattern storage unit 22) as the material for the target trajectory.
- the basic shape pattern of the driving route pre-stored in the storage device 2 basic shape pattern storage unit 22
- Figure 18 is an explanatory diagram showing a modified example of the method for generating a target trajectory in driving control at start by a vehicle control device according to one embodiment (a method for generating a target trajectory including a turning path).

Even in such a situation, if the host vehicle 100 can start by turning around in the space between the two other stopped vehicles 200, it is possible to configure the vehicle control device 1 to generate a target trajectory consisting of a combination of multiple basic shape patterns, including turning around.
- the vehicle control device 1 generates a target trajectory including two turns by combining a first target trajectory portion 36t_01 obtained by enlarging, reducing, or inverting a certain basic shape pattern 22b, a second target trajectory portion 36t_02 obtained by enlarging, reducing, or inverting the same or a different basic shape pattern 22b, and a third target trajectory portion 36t_03 obtained by enlarging, reducing, or inverting the same or a different basic shape pattern 22b.
- multiple basic shape patterns 22b are appropriately selected, and methods of transforming the basic shape patterns, such as enlarging, reducing, or inverting, are also appropriately selected and combined. In this way, even when two other vehicles 200 are parked in front of and behind a stopped vehicle 100, generating a target trajectory including turns enables driving control for starting the vehicle 100.
