Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a vehicle body structure equipped with a suspension tower joined to the side of a side member.
  • Patent Document 1 describes a structure in which front and rear legs are provided at the bottom of a suspension tower and attached to a main frame.
  • reinforcing members are attached to the lower ends of the front and rear legs of the outer panel (spring house) of the suspension tower, and these reinforcing members are attached to the underside of the main frame (side member).
  • the suspension tower is connected to the shock absorbers and upper arms of the suspension system, and so transmits the force input from the road surface to the tire. This force acts significantly on the attachment point of the side member at the lower end of the suspension tower.
  • the reinforcing member provided at the lower end of the suspension tower is bent from the outer surface of the outer panel towards the underside of the side member and then attached to the underside of the side member. As a result, the reinforcing member cannot fully withstand the force, and there is a risk that the reinforcing member itself will deform or break, or that the connection between the suspension tower and the side member via the reinforcing member will peel off. As a result, it is not possible to ensure sufficient durability, rigidity, or connection to the side member of the suspension tower, and additional reinforcement is required.
  • the present invention was made in consideration of these issues, and its purpose is to provide a vehicle body structure that can better ensure the durability, rigidity, and joinability of suspension towers to side members.
  • the vehicle body structure of the present invention comprises a side member extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, and a suspension tower joined to the side of the side member by a pair of legs formed at a distance from each other in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and supporting the top of a shock absorber, at least one of the pair of legs including a plate-shaped upright wall portion erected in a direction intersecting the side of the side member and extending in the vertical direction of the vehicle along the side, the upright wall portion extending downward and extending in the vehicle width direction along the underside of the side member, and including a reinforcing portion joined to the underside while erected in a direction intersecting the underside.
