Abstract

対象成分を含む対象溶液から溶媒を分離することで、前記対象成分が濃縮された濃縮液を得るための濃縮システム。濃縮システムは、複数の半透膜モジュールを備える。前記複数の半透膜モジュールの前記第1室が接続されてなる濃縮流路が設けられ、前記複数の半透膜モジュールの前記第2室が接続されてなる希釈流路が設けられ、前記濃縮流路に、前記対象溶液が流され、前記希釈流路に、浸透圧を有する補助溶液が流される。前記対象溶液が前記補助溶液より高い圧力を有することにより、前記対象溶液が濃縮される。前記濃縮システムは、前記希釈流路に、前記補助溶液を増圧する補助溶液増圧ポンプと、該補助溶液増圧ポンプの吸込側に設置される前記補助溶液の圧力を測定する補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計と、をさらに備え、前記補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計および前記補助溶液増圧ポンプに接続される制御機器をさらに備える。

Description

濃縮システム
 本発明は、濃縮システムに関する。
 逆浸透(RO)法を用いた淡水化処理に必要なエネルギーを低下させること等を目的として、半透膜と、該半透膜で仕切られた第1室および第2室と、を有する半透膜モジュールの第1室に高圧の対象溶液を流し、第2室に低圧の補助溶液(対象溶液など)を流して、第1室内の対象溶液に含まれる溶媒(水など)を半透膜を介して第2室内の補助溶液に移行させることで、第1室から濃縮された対象溶液(濃縮液)を排出し、第2室から希釈された補助溶液(希釈液)を排出する膜分離方法(ブラインコンセントレーション(BC):浸透圧補助型逆浸透法(OARO))が検討されている。
 例えば、特許文献1(国際公開第2018/084246号)、特許文献2(特開2019-188330号公報)、特許文献3(特表2018-515340号公報)には、複数の半透膜モジュールが直列的に連結されてなる多段式の膜分離システムをブラインコンセントレーション(BC)に用いることが開示されている。

 このような複数の半透膜モジュールを含む多段式の膜分離(濃縮)システムを用いて、ブラインコンセントレーション(BC)により対象溶液の濃縮を行う場合、複数の半透膜モジュールの第1室(濃縮流路)を流れて濃縮される対象溶液は、高圧ポンプ等により加圧されているため、複数の半透膜モジュールの各々の第1室を必要な流量で通過することができる。
 一方で、複数の半透膜モジュールの第2室(希釈流路)に流される補助溶液は比較的圧力が低い。このため、通過する半透膜モジュールの数が多くなり、補助溶液の通液抵抗が大きくなると、特に希釈流路の下流側で補助溶液の流量が低下し、複数の半透膜モジュールの全ての第2室を必要な流量で通過させることが難しくなる。なお、希釈流路に供給される補助溶液の圧力を高くすると、第1室と第2室の圧力差が小さくなり、対象溶液の膜分離効率(濃縮効率)が低下してしまう。
 そこで、補助溶液の流量が減少しやすい希釈流路の下流側において第2室内の補助溶液の流量を上げるために、希釈流路の途中に補助溶液増圧ポンプを設けることが考えられる。
 ここで、流路の途中に補助溶液増圧ポンプを設ける場合、補助溶液増圧ポンプの上流側(吸込側)に供給される液の圧力が高すぎると、補助溶液増圧ポンプが故障する可能性がある。
 また、半透膜は、第1室側からの圧力に対しては高い強度を有するが、第2室側からの圧力に対する強度が比較的低い場合がある。例えば、半透膜として中空糸膜(中空糸型の半透膜)を用いてBCによる濃縮を行う場合、通常は、中空糸膜の外側が第1室(高圧側)となり、中空糸膜の内側が第2室(低圧側)となる。これは、中空糸膜が、外側からの圧力に対して強度が高く、内側からの圧力に対しては比較的強度が低いためである。この場合、第2室に供給される液(補助溶液)の圧力が高くなると、半透膜が損傷する可能性がある。
 このため、本発明者らは、複数の半透膜モジュールを含む多段式の濃縮システムにおいて、希釈流路(複数の半透膜モジュールの第2室)を流れる補助溶液の圧力を適切に制御する必要があると考えた。
 したがって、本発明は、複数の半透膜モジュールを含む多段式の濃縮システム(膜分離システム)を用いて、ブラインコンセントレーション(BC)により、対象溶液から水を分離して濃縮する際に、希釈流路を流れる補助溶液の圧力を適切に制御することで、半透膜モジュールや補助溶液増圧ポンプの破損、故障等を予防することを目的とする。

 前記濃縮システムは、
 前記希釈流路に、前記補助溶液を増圧する補助溶液増圧ポンプと、
 該補助溶液増圧ポンプの吸込側に設置される前記補助溶液の圧力を測定する補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計と、をさらに備え、
 前記補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計および前記補助溶液増圧ポンプに接続される制御機器をさらに備える、
 濃縮システム。
 [2] 前記制御機器は、前記補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計の測定値が目標値となるように前記補助溶液増圧ポンプの吐出能力を制御する、[1]に記載の濃縮システム。

 本発明によれば、複数の半透膜モジュールを含む多段式の濃縮システム(膜分離システム)を用いて、ブラインコンセントレーション(BC)により、対象溶液から水を分離して濃縮する際に、希釈流路を流れる補助溶液の圧力を適切に制御することで、半透膜モジュールや補助溶液増圧ポンプの破損、故障等を予防することができる。

 以下、本発明の実施形態について、図面を参照して説明する。なお、図面において、同一の参照符号は、同一部分または相当部分を表す。
 <濃縮システム>
 本実施形態の濃縮システムは、対象成分を含む対象溶液から溶媒を分離することで、対象成分が濃縮された濃縮液を得るためのシステムである。
 図1を参照して、本実施形態の濃縮システムは、複数の半透膜モジュール1,2,3を備えた、多段式の濃縮システム(膜分離システム)である。
 なお、図1においては、「複数の半透膜モジュール」として、3つの半透膜モジュール1,2,3が描かれているが、「複数の半透膜モジュール」は、例えば、2以上の任意の数の半透膜モジュールであり得る。
 複数の半透膜モジュール1,2,3の各々は、半透膜10,20,30と、該半透膜で仕切られた第1室11,21,31および第2室12,22,32と、を有する。
 複数の半透膜モジュール1,2,3の第1室11,21,31が接続されてなる濃縮流路が設けられている。すなわち、濃縮流路は、第1室11,21、31と、それらを接続する流路と、からなる。複数の半透膜モジュールの少なくとも一部において、第1室は直列的に接続されていることが好ましい。複数の半透膜モジュールの一部において、第1室は並列的に接続されていてもよい。
 また、複数の半透膜モジュール1,2,3の第2室12,22,32が接続されてなる希釈流路が設けられている。すなわち、希釈流路は、第2室12,22,32と、それらを接続する流路と、からなる。複数の半透膜モジュールの少なくとも一部において、第2室は直列的に接続されていることが好ましい。複数の半透膜モジュールの一部において、第2室は並列的に接続されていてもよい。
 上記の濃縮流路には、対象溶液が流される。対象溶液は、半透膜モジュール1の第1室11、半透膜モジュール2の第1室21、半透膜モジュール3の第1室31の順に流れる。
 図1において、希釈流路には、浸透圧を有する補助溶液が流される。補助溶液は、半透膜モジュール3の第2室32、半透膜モジュール2の第2室22、半透膜モジュール1の第2室12の順に流れる。すなわち、補助溶液は、半透膜モジュールの連結において対象溶液とは逆の順に流される。
 ただし、補助溶液は、図1に示す態様に限られず、半透膜モジュール1の第2室12、半透膜モジュール2の第2室22、半透膜モジュール3の第2室32の順に流れてもよい。
 なお、個々の半透膜モジュールにおいては、半透膜の両側で(第1室と第2室とで)液の流れ方向は、互いにどのような方向であってもよく、対向する方向(対向流方式)であってもよく、並行する方向(並行流方式)であってもよい。
 対象溶液は、補助溶液より高い圧力(静水圧)を有する。すなわち、複数の半透膜モジュールの各々において、第1室内の液(対象溶液)は、第2室内の液(補助溶液)よりも高い圧力を有している。
 なお、対象溶液は、加圧器具等により昇圧される。加圧器具としては、例えば、対象溶液を加圧しつつ第1室に送り込むことのできる高圧ポンプ(図示せず)などが挙げられる。なお、加圧器具は、ポンプ以外の器具であってもよく、例えば、半透膜モジュールの外部から第1室内の液を加圧する器具であってもよい。
 対象溶液が補助溶液より高い圧力を有することにより、複数の半透膜モジュールの各々において、第1室内の対象溶液に含まれる溶媒(水など)が半透膜を介して第2室内の補助溶液に移行し、第1室から濃縮液が排出され、第2室から希釈液が排出される。
 本実施形態の濃縮システムは、
 前記希釈流路に、前記補助溶液を増圧する補助溶液増圧ポンプと、
 該補助溶液増圧ポンプの吸込側に設置される前記補助溶液の圧力を測定する補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計と、をさらに備え、
 前記補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計および前記補助溶液増圧ポンプに接続される制御機器をさらに備える。
 そして、該補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計の測定圧力が目標値となるように、前記補助溶液増圧ポンプの吐出能力(モーターの回転数など)が制御機器により制御される。
 なお、補助溶液増圧ポンプの吐出側を測定する圧力計、半透膜モジュールの第2室の入口と出口の差圧を測定する差圧計、半透膜モジュールの第2室の入口と出口の流量を測定する流量計、または、補助溶液増圧ポンプの上流側と下流側の温度を測定する温度計を用いて、所定の差圧、流量または温度となるように補助溶液増圧ポンプの吐出能力を制御することも挙げられるが、前記補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計の測定圧力が目標値となるように制御することが好ましい。
 上記の特徴を有する本実施形態の濃縮システムによれば、本実施形態の濃縮システム(膜分離システム)を用いて、ブラインコンセントレーション(BC)(すなわち、浸透圧補助型逆浸透法(OARO))により、対象溶液から水を分離して濃縮する際に、希釈流路を流れる補助溶液の圧力を適切に制御することができる。
 本実施形態の濃縮システムは、濃縮流路に、濃縮液(対象溶液)の圧力を測定する濃縮液圧力計(対象溶液圧力計)、濃縮液中の対象成分濃度を測定し制御機器に接続される濃縮液濃度計を備えても良い。
 後述の通り、濃縮液圧力計および濃縮液濃度計を用いた補助溶液増圧ポンプの起動および吐出能力の制御開始を併用することで、適切な希釈経路の圧力制御によって、半透膜モジュールや補助溶液増圧ポンプの破損、故障等を予防することができる。
 以下、制御の具体例について説明する。
 本実施形態の一例として、図1に示す濃縮システムは、希釈流路の上流側に設けられた第1補助溶液増圧ポンプ41と、その吸込み側に設置された補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計51と、第1補助溶液増圧ポンプ41用の制御機器61と、希釈流路の下流側に設けられた第2補助溶液増圧ポンプ42と、その吸込み側に設置された補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計52と、第2補助溶液増圧ポンプ42用の制御機器62と、を備える。
 第1補助溶液増圧ポンプ41および第2補助溶液増圧ポンプ42の各々は、ポンプ本体41a,42aと、ポンプ本体の駆動部に接続されたモータ41b,42bと、を有する。
 制御機器61および62の各々は、該補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計51,52の測定値が予め設定された目標圧力値となるように、モータ41b,42bの回転速度を制御する調節計61a,62aおよびインバーター61b,62bと、を含む。
 なお、図示はしないが、各々の調節計、インバーターからの信号を入力したり、各々の調節計、インバーターに対して制御開始、停止等(ポンプの起動、停止等)の指示を出力するPLC(Programmable Logic Controller)等の制御装置も制御機器61,62に含まれる。
 本実施形態の一例として、以下に説明する図1に示す濃縮システムの基本制御方法が挙げられる。
 補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計51,52の測定圧力の入力信号(アナログ信号等)が調節計61a,62aに入力され、各々の調節計にて設定された目標の圧力値(目標値)となるように算出された操作量(Manipulated Value:MV)がインバーター61b,62bに入力される。各々のインバーター61b,62bは該操作量(MV)に対応したインバーター周波数を、モータ41b,42bへ出力する。そして、該インバーター周波数に応じた回転数で各々のモーターが稼働することで、ポンプ本体41a,42aの回転数(吐出能力)が決定づけられる。
 調節計61a,62aの操作量(MV)の制御方法としては、ON-OFF制御、比例制御、フィードバック制御、PID(Proportional-Integral-Differential)制御、カスケード制御などが挙げられる。さらに、操作量(MV)の出力可能な上限・下限を設けても良い。また、インバーターの周波数の加速、減速時間(速度)も適宜設定すればよい。また、目標値は、補助溶液増圧ポンプや半透膜モジュールの耐圧等を考慮して、適宜設定すればよい。
 また、上記の基本制御方法を基に下記のような制御方法(a~h)も使用できる。これらの制御方法は、いずれを用いてもよく、適宜組み合わせても良い。
 (補助溶液増圧ポンプの吐出能力の制御方法)
 a) 補助溶液増圧ポンプ41,42の吐出能力の制御は、各々独立して(各補助溶液増圧ポンプの専用の制御機器61,62により)実行する。
 b) 各々の補助溶液増圧ポンプ41,42の吐出能力の制御は、一定時間(制御周期時間)毎に1台ずつ順番に(例えば、希釈流路の上流側から順番に)繰返し実行する。その際、制御しない補助溶液増圧ポンプの回転数は、制御周期時間内で算出された操作量(MV)に基づき維持する。
 c) 調節計62aの操作量(MV)は、(その希釈流路の上流側の)調節計61aの操作量(MV)に対して所定係数を掛けた値を使用する。
 なお、該係数が自動で適切な値に変更(修正)されるようにしてもよい。
 (補助溶液増圧ポンプの起動および制御開始の制御方法)
 d) 各々の補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計51,52の測定値が所定圧力に到達したら、各々の補助溶液増圧ポンプ41,42を起動させる。その際、上述の制御(補助溶液増圧ポンプの吐出能力の制御)も直ちに開始しても良いし、一定時間、所定の操作量(インバーターの周波数)で起動させて(慣らし運転させて)から上述の制御に移行させても良い。
 e) 全ての補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計51,52の測定値が所定圧力に到達したら、全ての補助溶液増圧ポンプ41,42を共に起動させる。その際、上述の制御も直ちに開始しても良いし、一定時間、所定の操作量(インバーター周波数)で起動させて(慣らし運転させて)から上述の制御に移行させても良い。
 (濃縮システムの監視等の制御方法)
 f) 補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計51,52に高圧側および低圧側の警報値を設け、補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計の測定値がこれら高圧側および低圧側の警報値の範囲を外れた場合、濃縮システムを停止させる。高圧側および低圧側の警報値の範囲を外れてから一定の遅延時間を設けても良い。これらの警報値は、補助溶液増圧ポンプや半透膜モジュールの耐圧等を考慮して、適宜設定すればよい。
 g) 上記高圧側および低圧側の警報値と目標値の間に高圧側および低圧側の制御監視値(予備的な警報値)を設け、補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計の測定値が所定時間、高圧側および低圧側の制御監視値の範囲を外れた場合、警報を発報させる。これらの制御監視値は、補助溶液増圧ポンプ41,42や半透膜モジュール1,2,3の耐圧等を考慮して、適宜設定すればよい。
 h) 図示しないが、補助溶液増圧ポンプ41,42の吐出側に圧力計を設けて、高圧側の警報値を設け、これを超えた場合、濃縮システムを停止させる。この警報値は、補助溶液増圧ポンプ41,42や半透膜モジュール1,2,3の耐圧等を考慮して、適宜設定すればよい。
 なお、システムの停止時において、各補助溶液増圧ポンプ41,42の停止後に高圧ポンプ等の加圧器具(対象溶液を加圧しつつ第1室に送り込むための器具)を停止することが好ましい。
 前述の通り、半透膜モジュール1,2,3の耐圧の面から第2室12,22,32のみへの圧力の印加が望ましくない場合を考慮して、第2室12,22,32のみへの圧力の印加を避けるためである。
 より好ましくは、各補助溶液増圧ポンプ41,42の吐出側に圧力計(図示せず)を設置し、その圧力計の測定値が所定圧力まで低下した後に、高圧ポンプを停止するのが良い。
 また、上記の各ポンプの停止順は、上述のインバーターの減速時間に応じて、各ポンプの停止(周波数=0Hz)までの時間に傾斜を付けるように設定しても良い。
 上記の制御方法を具体的に例示すると下記の通りである。
 補助溶液は所定圧力で半透膜モジュール3の第2室32へ供給され、半透膜30を介して透過した溶媒と混合して希釈された補助溶液として第2室32から排出される。
 希釈された補助溶液の圧力が補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計51で測定され、測定値が調節計61aの目標値より高ければ、補助溶液増圧ポンプ41の吐出能力は低くなるように調整され、測定値が目標値より低ければ、吐出能力は高く調整される。
 こうして調整された吐出圧力で以て半透膜モジュール2の第2室22へ希釈された補助溶液が送液される。
 半透膜20を介して透過した溶媒を混合してさらに希釈され、半透膜モジュール2の第2室22通過時に圧力損失によって減圧された補助溶液の圧力が、補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計52で再び測定され、上述の具体例(補助溶液増圧ポンプ41の場合)と同様に補助溶液増圧ポンプ42の吐出能力が調整される。
 そして、調整された吐出圧力で半透膜モジュール1の第2室12へ補助溶液が送液される。
 半透膜10を介して透過した透過水と混合してさらに希釈された補助溶液は希釈液として、半透膜モジュール1の第2室12から排出される。
 これら説明された図1の本実施形態の一例によって、希釈流路は適正な圧力を維持することができ、各半透膜モジュールおよび補助溶液増圧ポンプの破損や故障を回避しながら、安定的に濃縮システムを稼働する事ができる。
 本実施形態の別の一例として、図2に示す濃縮システムは、図1に対して、濃縮液圧力計70(対象溶液圧力計)、濃縮液濃度計80が付帯されている。これら濃縮液圧力計70および濃縮液濃度計80を制御開始前に使用する点において、図1の本実施形態の一例と異なる。
 図2に示す濃縮システムは、特に半透膜モジュールの耐圧が第1室より第2室の方が小さい場合や、第2室のみへの印加が望ましくない場合に効果を発揮する。
 具体的には下記の通りである。
 濃縮システムを稼働後、まず対象溶液は圧力をほぼ掛けずに各半透膜モジュールの第1室に供給される。
 次に、濃縮液濃度計80にて測定された対象成分の濃度が所定濃度(対象溶液濃度等)に達したら、対象溶液の圧力を必要値までかける。
 次に、濃縮液圧力計70にて測定された圧力が所定圧力に達したら、補助溶液を所定流量および圧力で供給する。
 次いで、上で説明した一連の補助溶液増圧ポンプの起動および制御が開始される。
 なお、保存液などの浸透圧の小さい水溶液で半透膜モジュールが満たされている状態から濃縮システムを稼働させた場合、対象溶液を稼働直後から必要圧となるようにかけると、各第1室11,21,31の保存液が排出されるまでの間に、保存液中の溶媒は各半透膜10,20,30を介して、第2室12,22,32側に透過し易くなる。すなわち、希釈流路内に溶媒分の圧力が各第2室に印加されやすい。そこで、比較的浸透圧を有する対象溶液にて各第1室を満たしてから、必要圧で各第1室を印加する事で、この問題を軽減することができる。
 (対象溶液および補助溶液)
 対象溶液および補助溶液としては、溶媒に対象成分が溶解している液であれば、特に限定されない。溶媒としては水などが挙げられ、対象成分は溶媒に溶解する成分であれば全て該当する。例えば、塩水(ブライン、海水、かん水など)、工業排水(無機塩含有水溶液、水溶性有機溶剤含有水溶液など)などを用いることができる。上記の濃縮システムは、特に、対象溶液がブラインなどの高濃度(高浸透圧)の溶液である場合に、それをさらに濃縮するために好適に用いることができる。
 なお、対象溶液等に対して、溶液中に含まれる微粒子、微生物、スケール成分等を除去するための前処理を行ってもよい。前処理としては、海水淡水化技術等に用いられる種々公知の前処理を実施することができ、例えば、NF膜、UF膜、MF膜等を用いたろ過、次亜塩素酸ナトリウムの添加、凝集剤添加、活性炭吸着処理、イオン交換樹脂処理などが挙げられる。このような前処理は、対象溶液および補助溶液を半透膜モジュールに供給する前に実施されることが好ましい。
 第1室(高圧側)に流される対象溶液(濃縮される液)と第2室(低圧側)に流される補助溶液(希釈される液)との浸透圧差(絶対値)が対象溶液の圧力よりも小さければ、理論上、BCによる膜分離は実施可能である。この場合、対象溶液の浸透圧と補助溶液の浸透圧との差は、対象溶液の圧力の30%以下であることが好ましい。
 補助溶液は、浸透圧を有する液であれば特に限定されないが、図3に示すように、複数の半透膜モジュールの濃縮流路で濃縮された対象溶液(濃縮液)の一部が、複数の半透膜モジュールにおける補助溶液として使用されてもよい。
 なお、濃縮液の一部を補助溶液として希釈流路(半透膜モジュールの第2室)に供給するための流路には、液の圧力を低下させる機構が設けられていることが好ましい。このような機構としては、自動調節バルブ90a,90bのように、上流側の圧力を高く保ち下流側の圧力を低下させる装置や、エネルギー回収装置のように圧力を有する供給液体から回収したエネルギーをポンプ等の駆動補助エネルギーに変換する機構を有する装置が挙げられる。
 また、希釈液を対象溶液と共に濃縮流路に供給してもよい。そして、対象溶液を濃縮することにより得られる濃縮液を補助溶液として用い、その補助溶液を希釈することにより得られた希釈液を対象溶液と共に濃縮流路に供給してもよい。
 このように、濃縮システムにおいて、対象溶液を循環させた場合、対象溶液からの濃縮液(対象成分)の回収率を高めることができる。
 (複数の半透膜モジュール)
 複数の半透膜モジュールを用いたBCによる濃縮処理(膜分離処理)では、第1室から第2室へ溶媒が移動する方向と反対方向に働く浸透圧が生じ難いため、逆浸透(RO)法よりも低い圧力(ポンプ圧)で濃縮を進行させることができる。このため、主としてBCによる濃縮を行う本実施形態の濃縮システムにおいては、ポンプ等の電力消費量を低減させ、濃縮のエネルギー効率を高めることができる。
 また、RO法による濃縮では、半透膜の一方側で濃縮された対象溶液の浸透圧が、ポンプによる押圧力とは反対方向に生じる。このため、濃縮された対象溶液の浸透圧がポンプの圧力に達すると、ポンプによる押圧力と、それとは反対方向に働く対象溶液の浸透圧が拮抗し、それ以上は水が半透膜を透過せず、濃縮が進まなくなる。
 これに対して、BC法を用いた膜分離処理(濃縮方法)では、半透膜モジュールの各々において、第1室と第2室とに供給される液の濃度差(浸透圧差)が小さく、RO法のような濃縮処理を阻害する浸透圧は生じ難い。このため、BC法を用いた濃縮システムでは、RO法のみを用いた濃縮システムよりも、対象溶液の最終濃度を高めることができる。原理的には、対象溶液を飽和濃度まで濃縮できると考えられる。
 本実施形態においては、特許文献1(国際公開第2018/084246号)の図2および特許文献2(特開2019-188330号公報)の図4に示される多段式の濃縮システムのように、直列的に連結された複数の半透膜モジュール1a,1b,1x,1yの各々に対して、さらに1つ以上の別の半透膜モジュールが並列的に接続されていてもよい。
 なお、特許文献1の図2および特許文献2の図4に示されるように、濃縮流路の上流側(希釈流路の下流側)ほど並列的に接続された半透膜モジュールの数が多いことが好ましい。この場合、希釈流路の下流側は、流路の断面積が増加し、通液抵抗が低減されると考えられる。第2室(希釈流路側)には第1室(濃縮流路側)から半透膜を介して水が移行するため、希釈流路の下流側ほど、通液量が増え、通液抵抗が大きくなる傾向がある。このため、希釈流路の下流側で通液抵抗を低減することは、濃縮システムの全体において希釈流路の通液抵抗を低減する上で有効である。
 また、本実施形態のような多段式の濃縮システムでは、第1室内(濃縮流路)を流れる対象溶液は半透膜モジュール1から半透膜モジュール3にかけて順次濃縮され、濃縮が進むにつれて対象溶液の流量は減少する。各半透膜モジュール当りの流量が減少すると濃縮効率が低下してしまう。このような濃縮流路の下流側での対象溶液の流量減少を抑制するためにも、濃縮流路の上流側ほど並列的に接続された半透膜モジュールの数が多いことが好ましい。
 なお、希釈流路を一部不連続なものとしてもよい。一例としては、図5に示されるように、半透膜モジュール1の第2室12に補助溶液として対象溶液の一部を供給するようにしてもよい。
 このように、希釈流路を一部不連続なものとすることで、複数の半透膜モジュールの全ての第2室が直列的に接続された場合に比べて、連続した希釈流路の長さ(流路長)が減少する。ここで、希釈流路の通液抵抗(圧力損失)は流路長に比例するため、希釈流路の通液抵抗が低減される。したがって、希釈流路内の補助溶液の圧力を適切な範囲に制御することが容易になる。また、希釈流路の途中に設けられる補助溶液増圧ポンプの数を削減することができ、設備費用、エネルギー消費量等を削減することができる。
 また、本実施形態の濃縮システムにおいては、特許第7020512号公報に開示される構成を適用することができる。
 なお、本実施形態において用いられる半透膜としては、例えば、逆浸透膜(RO膜:Reverse Osmosis Membrane)、正浸透膜(FO膜:Forward Osmosis Membrane)、ナノろ過膜(NF膜:Nanofiltration Membrane)、限外ろ過膜(UF膜:Ultrafiltration Membrane)と呼ばれる半透膜が挙げられる。半透膜は、好ましくは逆浸透膜または正浸透膜、ナノろ過膜である。なお、半透膜として逆浸透膜または正浸透膜、ナノろ過膜を用いる場合、第1室内の液(対象溶液)の圧力は、好ましくは0.5~10.0MPaである。
 通常、RO膜およびFO膜の孔径は約2nm以下であり、UF膜の孔径は約2~100nmである。NF膜は、RO膜のうちイオンや塩類の阻止率が比較的低いものであり、通常、NF膜の孔径は約1~2nmである。半透膜としてRO膜またはFO膜、NF膜を用いる場合、RO膜またはFO膜、NF膜の塩除去率は好ましくは90%以上である。
 半透膜を構成する材料としては、特に限定されないが、例えば、セルロース系樹脂、ポリスルホン系樹脂、ポリアミド系樹脂などが挙げられる。半透膜は、セルロース系樹脂およびポリスルホン系樹脂の少なくともいずれかを含む材料から構成されることが好ましい。
 セルロース系樹脂は、好ましくは酢酸セルロース系樹脂である。酢酸セルロース系樹脂は、殺菌剤である塩素に対する耐性があり、微生物の増殖を抑制できる特徴を有している。酢酸セルロース系樹脂は、好ましくは酢酸セルロースであり、耐久性の点から、より好ましくは三酢酸セルロースである。
 ポリスルホン系樹脂は、好ましくはポリエーテルスルホン系樹脂である。ポリエーテルスルホン系樹脂は、好ましくはスルホン化ポリエーテルスルホンである。
 なお、図面においては、半透膜モジュールの半透膜は、簡略化のために平膜のように描かれているが、半透膜の形状は特に限定されない。半透膜は、例えば、スパイラル膜(スパイラル型半透膜)などの平膜であってもよく、中空糸膜(中空糸型半透膜)であってもよいが、好ましくは中空糸膜である。中空糸膜は、平膜に比べて、膜厚が小さく、さらにモジュール当たりの膜面積を大きくすることができ、浸透効率を高めることができる点で有利である。
 複数の半透膜モジュールの各々において、第1室は中空糸膜の外側であり、第2室は中空糸膜の内側(中空部)であることが好ましい。中空糸膜の内側を流れる溶液を加圧しても、圧力損失が大きくなり加圧が十分に行われ難い場合があり、また、一般的に中空糸膜は外圧に対してその構造を保持しやすいが、内圧が高くなると中空糸膜が損傷を受ける可能性があるからである。
 具体的な中空糸膜の一例としては、全体がセルロース系樹脂から構成されている単層構造の膜が挙げられる。ただし、ここでいう単層構造とは、層全体が均一な膜である必要はなく、例えば、厚み方向に不均一な膜であってもよい。具体的には、外周表面に緻密層を有し、この緻密層が実質的に中空糸膜の孔径を規定する分離活性層となっており、内周表面側は緻密層よりも密度が低いような膜であってもよい。緻密層は、実質的に中空糸膜の孔径を規定する分離活性層となるため、中空糸膜の外側の溶液が加圧される場合は、中空糸膜の外側表面に緻密層を有している方が、中空糸膜の外側から内側への分子の移動を正確に制御することができる。
 具体的な中空糸膜の別の例としては、支持層(例えば、ポリフェニレンオキサイドからなる層)の外周表面にポリフェニレン系樹脂(例えば、スルホン化ポリエーテルスルホン)からなる緻密層を有する2層構造の膜が挙げられる。また、他の例として、支持層(例えば、ポリスルホンまたはポリエーテルスルホンからなる層)の外周表面にポリアミド系樹脂からなる緻密層を有する2層構造の膜が挙げられる。

Claims (7)

  1.  対象成分を含む対象溶液から溶媒を分離することで、前記対象成分が濃縮された濃縮液を得るための濃縮システムであって、
     複数の半透膜モジュールを備え、
     前記複数の半透膜モジュールの各々は、半透膜と、該半透膜で仕切られた第1室および第2室と、を有し、
     前記複数の半透膜モジュールの前記第1室が接続されてなる濃縮流路が設けられ、
     前記複数の半透膜モジュールの前記第2室が接続されてなる希釈流路が設けられ、
     前記濃縮流路に、前記対象溶液が流され、
     前記希釈流路に、浸透圧を有する補助溶液が流され、
     前記対象溶液が前記補助溶液より高い圧力を有することにより、前記複数の半透膜モジュールの各々において、前記第1室内の前記対象溶液に含まれる溶媒が前記半透膜を介して前記第2室内の前記補助溶液に移行し、前記対象溶液が濃縮されることで、前記濃縮液が得られ、
     前記濃縮システムは、
     前記希釈流路に、前記補助溶液を増圧する補助溶液増圧ポンプと、
     該補助溶液増圧ポンプの吸込側に設置される前記補助溶液の圧力を測定する補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計と、をさらに備え、
     前記補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計および前記補助溶液増圧ポンプに接続される制御機器をさらに備える、
     濃縮システム。
  2.  前記制御機器は、前記補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計の測定値が目標値となるように前記補助溶液増圧ポンプの吐出能力を制御する、請求項1に記載の濃縮システム。
  3.  前記制御機器は、前記補助溶液増圧ポンプ吸込圧力計の測定値が所定値以上となると前記補助溶液増圧ポンプの起動および吐出能力の制御を開始する、請求項1に記載の濃縮システム。
  4.  前記濃縮流路に設置され、前記制御機器に接続される前記濃縮液の前記対象成分の濃度を測定する濃縮液濃度計をさらに備え、
     前記濃縮液濃度計の測定値も所定値以上となると前記補助溶液増圧ポンプの起動および吐出能力の制御を開始する、
     請求項1から3のいずれかに記載の濃縮システム。
  5.  前記補助溶液として、前記濃縮液の一部が使用される、請求項1から4のいずれかに記載の濃縮システム。
  6.  前記対象溶液を前記補助溶液よりも高い圧力に加圧するための加圧器具を備える、請求項1から5のいずれかに記載の濃縮システム。
  7.  前記半透膜は、中空糸膜である、請求項1から6のいずれかに記載の濃縮システム。
