전고체 전지용 양극 및 이를 포함하는 전고체 전지에 관한 것이다.
최근 휴대전화, 노트북 컴퓨터, 전기 자동차 등 전지를 사용하는 전자기구에 대한 급속한 발전이 이루어지고 있다.
이러한 전지로 리튬 이온 이차 전지가 주로 사용되고 있고, 현재 상용화된 리튬 이온 이차 전지는 음극 활물질로 흑연, 실리콘 또는 이들을 혼합하여 사용하고 있다. 그러나 점점 높은 에너지 밀도가 요구되고 있으나, 흑연, 실리콘 또는 이들의 조합인 음극 활물질을 사용하는 리튬 이차 전지로는 이 요구를 만족할 수 없다. 또한, 리튬 이차 전지에 대한 안전성 이슈가 발생하고 있다.
이에 음극으로 리튬 금속을 사용하는 전고체 전지 개발이 진행되고 있다. 전고체 전지는 모든 물질들이 고체로 구성된 전지로서, 특히 고체 전해질을 사용하는 전지를 말한다. 리튬 금속은 양극과 전위차가 크기 때문에 높은 평균 전압을 가지고 있고, 이론적인 용량이 약 3860mAh/g으로 높은 에너지 밀도를 구현할 수 있다. 또한 고체 전해질을 사용하므로 액체 전해질을 사용하는 전지에 비하여 향상된 안전성을 나타낼 수 있다.
일 구현예는 우수한 전기화학 특성을 나타내는 전고체 전지용 양극을 제공하는 것이다.
다른 일 구현예는 상기 양극을 포함하는 전고체 전지를 제공하는 것이다.
일 구현예는 바인더 매트릭스; 및 상기 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 복합 활물질을 포함하고, 상기 복합 활물질은 양극 활물질과 상기 양극 활물질 표면에 부착된 도전재를 포함하는 코어; 및 상기 코어 표면 상에 위치하는 전해질층을 포함하는 것인 전고체 전지용 양극을 제공한다.
다른 일 구현예는 상기 양극; 음극; 및 상기 양극과 상기 음극 사이에 위치하는 고체 전해질층을 포함하는 전고체 전지를 제공한다.
일 구현예에 따른 전고체 전지용 양극은 바인더를 소량 사용하여, 우수한 전기화학 특성을 나타낼 수 있다.

일 구현예는 바인더 매트릭스; 및 상기 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 복합 활물질을 포함하는 전고체 전지용 양극을 제공한다. 일 구현예에 따른 양극은 상기 복합 활물질로 이루어진 양극 활물질층을 포함하고, 이 양극 활물질층을 지지하는 양극 전류 집전체를 포함한다.
상기 복합 활물질은 양극 활물질과 상기 양극 활물질 표면에 부착된 도전재를 포함하는 코어; 및 상기 코어 표면 상에 위치하는 전해질층을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 전해질층은 상기 코어 표면을 실질적으로 전체적으로 둘러싸면서 위치할 수도 있고, 상기 코어 표면의 일부를 덮으면서 위치할 수도 있다.
도 1은 복합 활물질(1)을 개략적으로 나타낸 것으로서, 양극 활물질(3), 상기 양극 활물질(3) 표면에 부착된 도전재(5)를 포함하는 코어와, 이 코어 표면에 위치하는 전해질층(7)을 포함한다. 도 1은, 도전재(5)가 전해질층(7)으로 커버되지 않은 형태를 나타내나, 이에 한정되는 것이 아니며, 도전재는 전해질층으로 완전하게 커버되어 존재할 수도 있다.
도 2는 도 1에 나타낸 복합 활물질을 포함하는 양극(10)의 일부를 개략적으로 나타낸 것으로서, 복합 활물질이 바인더 매트릭스(9)에 박혀있는 것이다.
일 구현예에 있어서, 상기 바인더 매트릭스는 고체 전해질과 반응하지 않는, 예를 들어 황화물계 고체 전해질과 반응하지 않는 섬유형 바인더로 이루어질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 섬유형 바인더는 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리비닐알코올, 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드 또는 이들의 조합인 고분자가 섬유화된 바인더일 수 있다. 상기 섬유형 바인더는 나노 섬유일 수 있다.
이러한 섬유형 바인더는 바인더 자체가 접착성을 가지므로, 섬유형 바인더를 용매에 첨가하여 액상화할 필요가 없다.
일 구현예에서, 상기 바인더 매트릭스의 함량은 상기 양극 전체 중량에 대하여 0.1 중량% 내지 10 중량%일 수 있고, 0.1 중량% 내지 5 중량%, 또는 0.1 중량% 내지 2 중량%일 수도 있다. 바인더 매트릭스의 함량이 상기 범위에 포함되는 경우, 리튬 이온 전도 채널 및 전자 전도 채널을 충분하게 형성할 수 있다.
일 구현예의 양극에서 양극 활물질은 복합 활물질로 포함되고, 이 복합 활물질은 상기 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박힌 형태로 존재할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 복합 활물질이 상기 바인더 매트릭스를 구성하는 섬유형 바인더에 부착되어, 매트릭스 내에 박힌 형태로 존재할 수 있다.
상기 복합 활물질은 코어 및 상기 코어 표면을 둘러싸는 고체 전해질층을 포함하며, 상기 코어는 양극 활물질과, 상기 양극 활물질 표면에 부착된 도전재를 포함할 수 있다.
상기 도전재의 함량은 상기 양극 전체 중량에 대하여 0.1 중량% 내지 10 중량%일 수 있고, 0.1 중량% 내지 5 중량%, 또는 0.1 중량% 내지 1 중량%일 수도 있다.
또한, 상기 전해질의 함량은 상기 양극 전체 중량에 대하여 3 중량% 내지 20 중량%일 수 있고, 3 중량% 내지 15 중량%, 또는 7 중량% 내지 14 중량%일 수도 있다.
일 구현예에서, 도전재의 함량은 상기 범위에 포함되면서, 상기 전해질의 함량보다 작은 것이 적절하다. 도전재가 상기 범위에 포함되는 경우, 특히, 전해질보다 적은 함량으로 양극에 포함되는 경우, 표면적이 넓은 도전재 함량이 낮으므로, 바인더 함량도 감소시킬 수 있어, 전기화학 특성 향상 및 합재 밀도를 증가시킬 수 있다.
일 구현예에서, 상기 도전재는 전극에 도전성을 부여하기 위해 사용되는 것으로서, 구성되는 전지에 있어서, 화학변화를 야기하지 않고 전자 전도성 재료이면 어떠한 것도 사용 가능하다. 도전재로 탄소계 물질, 금속계 물질, 도전성 고분자 또는 이들의 조합을 들 수 있다. 도전재의 구체적인 예로 카본 블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸블랙, 카본 섬유, 카본 나노 섬유(Carbon Nano Fiber), 그래핀, 탄소나노튜브 등의 탄소계 물질; 구리, 니켈, 알루미늄, 은 등을 함유하고 금속 분말 또는 금속 섬유 형태의 금속계 물질; 폴리페닐렌 유도체 등의 도전성 고분자 또는 이들의 조합을 들 수 있다.
상기 전해질은 고체 전해질일 수 있고, 예를 들어, 황화물계 고체 전해질, 산화물계 고체 전해질, 할라이드계 고체 전해질 등의 무기 고체 전해질이거나 또는 고체 고분자 전해질일 수 있다.

일 구현예에서, 상기 황화물계 고체 전해질은 아지로다이트(argyrodite)형 황화물계 고체 전해질일 수 있다. 상기 아지로다이트형 황화물계 고체 전해질은 예를 들어 LiaMbPcSdAe(a, b, c, d 및 e는 모두 0 이상 12 이하, M은 Ge, Sn, Si 또는 이들의 조합이고, A는 F, Cl, Br, 또는 I 중 하나임)일 수 있고, 구체적으로 Li3PS4, Li7P3S11, Li7PS6, Li6PS5Cl, Li6PS5Br, Li6PS5I, Li5.8PS4.8Cl1.2, Li6.2PS5.2Br0.8 등일 수 있다.
성가 황화물계 고체 전해질은 비정질이거나, 결정질이거나, 또는 이들이 혼합된 상태일 수 있다. 상기 황화물계 고체 전해질은 일 예로 Li2S와 P2S5를 50:50 내지 90:10의 몰비, 또는 50:50 내지 80:20의 몰비로 혼합시켜 얻은 것일 수 있다. 상기 혼합비 범위에서, 우수한 이온 전도도를 가지는 황화물계 고체 전해질을 제조할 수 있다. 여기에 다른 성분으로서 SiS2, GeS2, B2S3 등을 더 포함시켜 이온 전도도를 더욱 향상시킬 수도 있다. 혼합 방법으로는 기계적 밀링이나 용액법을 적용할 수 있다. 기계적 밀링은 반응기 내 출발 원료와 볼 밀 등을 넣어 강하게 교반하여 출발 원료를 미립자화하여 혼합시키는 방법이다. 용액법을 이용하는 경우 용매 내에서 출발 원료를 혼합시켜 석출물로서 고체 전해질을 얻을 수 있다. 또한 혼합 이후 추가로 소성을 수행할 수 있다. 추가적인 소성을 수행하는 경우 고체 전해질의 결정은 더욱 견고해질 수 있다.
물론, 황화물계 고체 전해질은 시판되는 고체 전해질을 사용할 수도 있다.

상기 할라이드계 고체 전해질은 Li 원소와, M 원소(M은 Li 이외의 금속이다)와, X 원소(X는 할로겐이다)를 포함할 수 있다. X로는, 예를 들면, F, Cl, Br 및 I를 들 수 있다. 특히, 할라이드계 고체 전해질은, 상기 X로, Br 및 Cl 중 적어도 하나가 적절하다. 또한, 상기 M으로는, 예를 들면, Sc, Y, B, Al, Ga, In 등의 금속 원소를 들 수 있다.

상기 고체 전해질은 입자 형태이고, 평균 입경(D50)은 5.0 ㎛ 이하일 수 있으며, 예를 들어, 0.1 ㎛ 내지 5.0 ㎛, 0.5 ㎛ 내지 5.0 ㎛, 0.5 ㎛ 내지 4.0 ㎛, 0.5 ㎛ 내지 3.0 ㎛, 0.5 ㎛ 내지 2.0 ㎛, 또는 0.5 ㎛ 내지 1.0 ㎛일 수 있다.

일 구현예에 따르면, 양극 활물질로 LiNixCoyAlzO2(NCA), LiNixCoyMnzO2(NCM)(단, 0<x<1, 0<y<1, 0<z<1, x+y+z=1) 등의 삼성분계 리튬 전이 금속 산화물을 들 수 있다.
물론 이 화합물 표면에 코팅층을 갖는 것도 사용할 수 있고, 또는 상기 화합물과 코팅층을 갖는 화합물을 혼합하여 사용할 수도 있다. 이 코팅층은 코팅 원소의 옥사이드, 코팅 원소의 하이드록사이드, 코팅 원소의 옥시하이드록사이드, 코팅 원소의 옥시카보네이트 및 코팅 원소의 하이드록시카보네이트로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 적어도 하나의 코팅 원소 화합물을 포함할 수 있다. 이들 코팅층을 이루는 화합물은 비정질 또는 결정질일 수 있다. 상기 코팅층에 포함되는 코팅 원소로는 Mg, Al, Co, K, Na, Ca, Si, Ti, V, Sn, Ge, Ga, B, As, Zr 또는 이들의 혼합물을 사용할 수 있다. 코팅층 형성 공정은 상기 화합물에 이러한 원소들을 사용하여 양극 활물질의 물성에 악영향을 주지 않는 방법(예를 들어 스프레이 코팅, 침지법 등)으로 코팅할 수 있으면 어떠한 코팅 방법을 사용하여도 무방하며, 이에 대하여는 당해 분야에 종사하는 사람들에게 잘 이해될 수 있는 내용이므로 자세한 설명은 생략하기로 한다.
또한, 상기 코팅층으로, 이외에 전고체 전지의 양극 활물질의 코팅층으로 공지의 것이라면 모두 적용할 수 있으며, 그 예로는 Li2O-ZrO2 (LZO) 등을 들 수 있다.
또한, 양극 활물질이 니켈, 코발트 및 망간, 또는 니켈, 코발트 및 알루미늄을 포함하는 삼성분계인 경우, 전고체 전지의 용량 밀도를 더욱 향상시킬 수 있고, 충전 상태에서 양극 활물질의 금속 용출을 보다 감소시킬 수 있다. 이로 인하여, 전고체 전지는 충전 상태에서 장기 신뢰성 및 사이클(cycle) 특성이 더욱 향상될 수 있다.
여기서, 양극 활물질의 형상으로는, 예를 들어, 구형, 타원구형 등의 입자 형상을 들 수 있다. 또한, 양극 활물질의 평균 입경은 특별히 제한되지 않으며, 기존의 전고체 이차전지의 양극 활물질에 적용 가능한 범위이면 된다.
일 구현예에서, 또한, 양극 활물질의 함량은 양극 전체 100 중량%에 대하여 75 중량% 내지 94 중량%일 수 있고, 87 중량% 내지 92 중량%일 수도 있다.
일 구현예에 따른 전고체 전지용 양극은 쉬트형 양극일 수 있다. 쉬트형 양극이란 양극 활물질층이 쉬트형으로 형성된 양극을 의미한다.
상기 양극 활물질층을 지지하는 양극 전류 집전체는 예를 들어, 인듐(In), 구리(Cu), 마그네슘(Mg), 스테인리스 강, 티타늄(Ti), 철(Fe), 코발트(Co), 니켈(Ni), 아연(Zn), 알루미늄(Al), 게르마늄(Ge), 리튬(Li) 또는 이들의 합금을 포함하며, 포일 또는 쉬트 형태일 수 있다.
일 구현예에서, 상기 양극 활물질층의 두께는 70㎛ 내지 500㎛일 수 있고, 150㎛ 내지 300㎛일 수도 있다. 양극 활물질층의 두께가 상기 범위에 포함되는 경우, 전극이 유연하여 충격에 의한 크랙 발생 및 단락 발생이 더욱 억제되어, 보다 향상된 안전성을 나타낼 수 있다.
이하에서 이러한 전고체 전지용 양극의 제조 공정을 설명한다. 하기 제조 공정에서 혼합비는 최종 양극에서의 중량비를 기준으로 기재한 것이다. 예를 들어, 양극 100 중량%에서의 각 성분의 함량비를 기재한 것이다.
양극 활물질과 제1 도전재를 혼합하여 혼합물을 제조한다.
상기 양극 활물질과 상기 제1 도전재의 혼합비는 85: 0.5 중량비 내지 94: 5 중량비일 수 있고, 85:0.1 중량비 내지 94:0.2 중량비일 수 있다. 상기 양극 활물질과 상기 도전재의 혼합비가 상기 범위에 포함되는 경우, 도전재가 활물질을 보다 적절하게 커버하여, 전도 패스를 잘 유지할 수 있다.
상기 양극 활물질과 상기 제1 도전재의 혼합 공정은 1000rpm 내지 5000rpm, 또는 1000rpm 내지 3000rpm의 교반 속도로 실시할 수 있다. 상기 혼합 공정은 1분 내지 10분, 또는 3분 내지 7분 동안 실시할 수 있다.
상기 혼합 공정을 상기 혼합 속도로 상기 시간 동안 실시하는 경우, 도전재가 잘리는 차핑(chopping) 현상없이 양극 활물질과 잘 혼합될 수 있어, 도전재의 전도 패스가 잘 유지되어 고율 특성이 개선되는 효과를 얻을 수 있다.
상기 혼합물과 제1 고체 전해질을 혼합하여 전해질 혼합물을 제조한다.
상기 제1 고체 전해질의 사용량은 상기 전해질 혼합물 전체 100 중량%에 대하여 0.1 중량% 내지 2 중량%일 수 있고, 0.5 중량% 내지 1 중량%일 수도 있다. 상기 고체 전해질의 사용량이 상기 범위에 포함되는 경우, 전해질이 균일하게 분포될 수 있고, 밀도를 높일 수 있다.
상기 혼합물과 상기 제1 고체 전해질의 혼합 공정은 1000rpm 내지 10000rpm, 또는 1000rpm 내지 3000rpm의 혼합 속도로 실시할 수 있다. 상기 혼합 공정은 1분 내지 10분, 또는 1분 내지 7분 동안 실시할 수 있다.
얻어진 전해질 혼합물, 제2 도전재, 제2 고체 전해질과 바인더를 혼합하여 바인더 혼합물을 제조한다. 상기 혼합 공정은 1000rpm 내지 10000rpm, 1000rpm 내지 3000rpm, 또는 1000rpm 내지 2200rpm의 혼합 속도로 실시할 수 있다. 상기 혼합 공정은 1분 내지 10분, 또는 1분 내지 7분씩 1회 내지 15회, 또는 1회 내지 10회 실시할 수 있다.
상기 제1 도전재 및 상기 제2 도전재는 상술한 바와 같고, 서로 동일하거나 상이할 수 있다. 또한, 상기 제1 고체 전해질 및 제2 고체 전해질은 상술한 바와 같고, 서로 동일하거나 상이할 수 있다.
상기 바인더의 사용량은 상기 바인더 혼합물 전체 100 중량%에 대하여 0.1 중량% 내지 5 중량%일 수 있고, 0.1 중량% 내지 1 중량%일 수도 있다. 상기 바인더의 사용량이 상기 범위에 포함되는 경우, 소량의 바인더로 코팅 층 제조할 수 있다.
상기 바인더 혼합물을 압출(extrude)하여 양극 활물질층을 제조한다.
상기 압출 공정은 압출기를 이용하여 50℃ 내지 100℃의 온도에서, 50rpm 내지 200rpm의 스크류 회전 속도 및 압출시 토크(torque) 1 내지 5의 조건으로 실시할 수 있다. 상기 토크는 상기 바인더 혼합물을 압출기에 투입하는 함량으로 조절할 수 있고, 예를 들어, 500g/시간 내지 2000g/시간으로 투입할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 토크 1 내지 2는 투입량 500g/시간 내지 900g/시간에 해당되고, 토크 3 내지 4는 900g/시간 초과, 1200g/시간 이하에 해당되고, 토크 5는 투입량 1200g/시간 초과, 1400g/시간 이하에 해당될 수 있다.
압출 공정을 상기 조건에서 실시하는 경우, 목적하는 양극 활물질층, 특히 쉬트형 양극 활물질층을 적절하게 제조할 수 있다.
상기 압출 공정을 실시한 후, 압출 생성물을 해쇄(deagglomeration)하는 공정을 더욱 실시할 수도 있다. 상기 해쇄 공정은 5000rpm 내지 20000rpm 또는 7000rpm 내지 15000rpm의 회전 속도로 1분 내지 10분간 또는 1분 내지 5분간 실시할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 압출 공정을 실시한 또는 상기 해쇄한 생성물을 프레스하는 공정을 더욱 실시할 수도 있다. 상기 프레스 공정은 롤-프레스 공정으로 실시할 수 있다. 이 공정은 20℃ 내지 100℃, 또는 30℃ 내지 80℃에서 실시할 수 있다. 또한, 롤을 회전하는 속도는 1rpm 내지 10rpm 또는 2rpm 내지 5rpm일 수 있다.
제조된 양극 활물질층에 전류 집전체를 위치시켜 양극을 제조할 수 있다. 전류 집전체를 위치시키는 공정은 전지 제조 전에, 양극 활물질층에 전류 집전체를 위치시킬 수 있고, 전지 제조 공정에서 양극 활물질층에 고체 전해질층과 접하게 위치시킨 후, 고체 전해질층과 접하지 않는 양극 활물질층의 다른 일면에 전류 집전체를 위치시킬 수도 있다.
다른 일 구현예는 상기 양극을 포함하는 전고체 전지를 제공한다. 이 전고체 전지는 음극 및 상기 양극과 상기 음극 사이에 위치하는 고체 전해질층을 포함한다.
상기 음극은 전류 집전체 및 이 전류 집전체의 일면에 위치하는 음극층을 포함한다.
상기 음극층은 음극 활물질층일 수도 있고, 음극 코팅층일 수도 있다. 또는 상기 음극층은 리튬 금속층일 수도 있다.
상기 음극 활물질층은 음극 활물질을 포함하고, 바인더, 도전재, 및/또는 고체 전해질을 더 포함할 수 있다.
상기 음극 활물질은 리튬 이온을 가역적으로 인터칼레이션/디인터칼레이션할 수 있는 물질, 리튬 금속, 리튬 금속의 합금, 리튬에 도프 및 탈도프 가능한 물질 또는 전이 금속 산화물을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 리튬 이온을 가역적으로 인터칼레이션/디인터칼레이션할 수 있는 물질로는 탄소계 음극 활물질로, 예를 들어 결정질 탄소, 비정질 탄소 또는 이들의 조합을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 결정질 탄소의 예로는 무정형, 판상형, 린편상(flake), 구형 또는 섬유형의 천연 흑연 또는 인조 흑연과 같은 흑연을 들 수 있고, 상기 비정질 탄소의 예로는 소프트 카본 또는 하드 카본, 메조페이스 피치 탄화물, 소성된 코크스 등을 들 수 있다.
상기 리튬 금속의 합금으로는 리튬과 Na, K, Rb, Cs, Fr, Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Si, Sb, Pb, In, Zn, Ba, Ra, Ge, Al 및 Sn에서 선택되는 하나 이상의 금속과의 합금이 사용될 수 있다.
상기 리튬에 도프 및 탈도프 가능한 물질로는 Si계 음극 활물질 또는 Sn계 음극 활물질을 사용할 수 있으며, 상기 Si계 음극 활물질로는 실리콘, 실리콘-탄소 복합체, SiOx(0<x<2), Si-Q 합금(상기 Q는 알칼리 금속, 알칼리 토금속, 13족 원소, 14족 원소, 15족 원소, 16족 원소, 전이금속, 희토류 원소 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 원소이며, Si은 아님), 상기 Sn계 음극 활물질로는 Sn, SnO2, Sn-R 합금(상기 R은 알칼리 금속, 알칼리 토금속, 13족 원소, 14족 원소, 15족 원소, 16족 원소, 전이금속, 희토류 원소 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 원소이며, Sn은 아님) 등을 들 수 있고, 또한 이들 중 적어도 하나와 SiO2를 혼합하여 사용할 수도 있다. 상기 원소 Q 및 R로는 Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ra, Sc, Y, Ti, Zr, Hf, Rf, V, Nb, Ta, Db, Cr, Mo, W, Sg, Tc, Re, Bh, Fe, Pb, Ru, Os, Hs, Rh, Ir, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd, B, Al, Ga, Sn, In, Tl, Ge, P, As, Sb, Bi, S, Se, Te, Po, 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 것을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 실리콘-탄소 복합체는 예를 들어 결정질 탄소 및 실리콘 입자를 포함하는 코어 및 이 코어 표면에 위치하는 비정질 탄소 코팅층을 포함하는 실리콘-탄소 복합체일 수 있다. 상기 결정질 탄소는 인조 흑연, 천연 흑연 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다. 상기 비정질 탄소 전구체로는 석탄계 핏치, 메조페이스 핏치, 석유계 핏치, 석탄계 오일, 석유계 중질유 또는 페놀 수지, 퓨란 수지, 폴리이미드 수지 등의 고분자 수지를 사용할 수 있다. 이때, 실리콘의 함량은 실리콘-탄소 복합체 전체 중량에 대하여 10 중량% 내지 50 중량%일 수 있다. 또한, 상기 결정질 탄소의 함량은 실리콘-탄소 복합체 전체 중량에 대하여 10 중량% 내지 70 중량%일 수 있고, 상기 비정질 탄소의 함량은 실리콘-탄소 복합체 전체 중량에 대하여 20 중량% 내지 40 중량%일 수 있다. 또한, 상기 비정질 탄소 코팅층의 두께는 5nm 내지 100nm일 수 있다.
상기 실리콘 입자의 평균 입경(D50)은 10nm 내지 20㎛일 수 있고, 예를 들어 10nm 내지 500nm일 수 있다. 상기 실리콘 입자는 산화된 형태로 존재할 수 있고, 이때, 산화 정도를 나타내는 실리콘 입자내 Si:O의 원자 함량 비율은 99:1 내지 33:67일 수 있다. 상기 실리콘 입자는 SiOx 입자일 수 있으며 이때 SiOx에서 x 범위는 0 초과, 2 미만일 수 있다. 여기서 평균 입경(D50)은 레이저 회절법을 이용한 입도 분석기로 측정된 것으로서 입도 분포에서 누적 체적이 50 부피%인 입자의 지름을 의미한다.
상기 Si계 음극 활물질 또는 Sn계 음극 활물질은 탄소계 음극 활물질과 혼합하여 사용될 수 있다. Si계 음극 활물질 또는 Sn계 음극 활물질 및 탄소계 음극 활물질의 혼합비는 중량비로 1:99 내지 90:10일 수 있다.
상기 음극 활물질 층에서 음극 활물질의 함량은 음극 활물질 층 전체 중량에 대하여 95 중량% 내지 99 중량%일 수 있다.
일 구현예에서 상기 음극 활물질 층은 바인더를 더 포함하며, 선택적으로 도전재를 더욱 포함할 수 있다. 상기 음극 활물질 층에서 바인더의 함량은 음극 활물질 층 전체 중량에 대하여 1 중량% 내지 5 중량%일 수 있다. 또한 도전재를 더욱 포함하는 경우 상기 음극 활물질 층은 음극 활물질을 90 중량% 내지 98 중량%, 바인더를 1 중량% 내지 5 중량%, 도전재를 1 중량% 내지 5 중량% 포함할 수 있다.
상기 바인더는 음극 활물질 입자들을 서로 잘 부착시키고, 또한 음극 활물질을 전류 집전체에 잘 부착시키는 역할을 한다. 상기 바인더는 비수계 바인더, 수계 바인더 또는 이들의 조합을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 비수계 바인더는 예를 들어 폴리비닐클로라이드, 카르복실화된 폴리비닐클로라이드, 폴리비닐플루오라이드, 에틸렌 옥사이드를 포함하는 폴리머, 에틸렌 프로필렌 공중합체, 폴리스티렌, 폴리비닐피롤리돈, 폴리우레탄, 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 폴리아미드이미드, 폴리이미드 또는 이들의 조합을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 수계 바인더로는 고무계 바인더 또는 고분자 수지 바인더를 들 수 있다. 상기 고무계 바인더는 스티렌-부타디엔 러버, 아크릴레이티드 스티렌-부타디엔 러버, 아크릴로나이트릴-부타디엔 러버, 아크릴 고무, 부틸고무, 불소고무, 및 이들의 조합에서 선택되는 것일 수 있다. 상기 고분자 수지 바인더는 폴리에틸렌옥시드, 폴리비닐피롤리돈, 폴리에피크로로히드린, 폴리포스파젠, 폴리아크릴로니트릴, 에틸렌프로필렌디엔공중합체, 폴리비닐피리딘, 클로로설폰화폴리에틸렌, 라텍스, 폴리에스테르수지, 아크릴수지, 페놀수지, 에폭시 수지, 폴리비닐알콜 및 이들의 조합에서 선택되는 것일 수 있다.
상기 음극 바인더로 수계 바인더를 사용하는 경우, 점성을 부여할 수 있는 증점제를 함께 사용할 수 있고, 상기 증점제는 예를 들어 셀룰로즈 계열 화합물을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 셀룰로즈 계열 화합물은 카르복시메틸 셀룰로즈, 하이드록시프로필메틸 셀룰로즈, 메틸 셀룰로즈, 이들의 알칼리 금속염, 또는 이들의 조합을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 알칼리 금속으로는 Na, K 또는 Li를 사용할 수 있다. 이러한 증점제 사용 함량은 음극 활물질 100 중량부에 대하여 0.1 중량부 내지 3 중량부일 수 있다. 상기 셀룰로즈 계열 화합물은 바인더로서도 역할할 수 있다.
상기 바인더는 이들로 한정되지 않으며 당해 기술분야에서 바인더로 사용하는 것이라면 모두 가능하며, 이들의 함량 또한 적절하게 조절할 수 있다.
상기 도전재는 전극에 도전성을 부여하기 위해 사용되는 것으로서, 예를 들어 천연 흑연, 인조 흑연, 카본 블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸블랙, 탄소섬유, 탄소나노튜브 등의 탄소계 물질; 구리, 니켈, 알루미늄, 은 등을 포함하고 금속 분말 또는 금속 섬유 형태의 금속계 물질; 폴리페닐렌 유도체 등의 도전성 폴리머; 또는 이들의 혼합물을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 음극 집전체로는 구리 박, 니켈 박, 스테인레스강 박, 티타늄 박, 니켈 발포체(foam), 구리 발포체, 전도성 금속이 코팅된 폴리머 기재, 및 이들의 조합에서 선택되는 것을 사용할 수 있다.
상기 음극층이 음극 코팅층인 경우는 음극이 석출형 음극을 의미한다. 상기 석출형 음극은 전지 조립 시에는 음극 활물질을 포함하지 않으나 전지의 충전 시 리튬 금속 등이 석출되어 이것이 음극 활물질의 역할을 하는 음극을 의미한다. 이에 대하여, 보다 자세하게 설명하면, 극 코팅층이란, 전고체 전지 충방전시 양극 활물질로부터 방출된 리튬 이온이 음극쪽으로 이동하여, 전류 집전체 표면에 석출이 잘 일어나도록 도와주는 역할을 하는 층을 의미한다. 즉, 집전체와 음극 코팅층 사이에 리튬 이온의 석출에 따른 리튬 석출층이 형성되며, 상기 리튬 석출층이 음극 활물질의 역할을 하는 것으로서, 이러한 음극을 일반적으로 석출형 음극이라고 한다. 상기 음극 코팅층에 포함된 금속 및 비정질 탄소가 충방전 반응에 직접 참여하는 음극 활물질로서 작용하지 않는다.
상기 음극 코팅층은 촉매 역할을 하는 금속, 탄소계 물질, 또는 이들의 조합을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 음극 코팅층에서 예를 들어, 금속이 탄소계 물질에 담지되어 있을 수 있고, 또는 금속 및 탄소계 물질이 혼합되어 존재할 수도 있다. 일 구현예에서, 상기 음극 코팅층은 금속과 탄소계 물질을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 탄소계 물질은 예를 들어 결정질 탄소, 비정질 탄소, 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있고, 비정질 탄소일 수 있다. 상기 결정질 탄소는 예를 들어 천연 흑연, 인조 흑연, 메조페이스카본 마이크로비드, 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다. 상기 비정질 탄소는, 그 예를 들면, 카본 블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 덴카 블랙, 케첸 블랙, 퍼니스 블랙, 활성탄, 그래핀 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다. 상기 카본 블랙의 예로는 슈퍼 피(Super P, Timcal사)를 들 수 있다. 상기 비정질 탄소가 이에 한정되는 것은 아니며, 당해 분야에서 비정질 탄소로 분류되는 것이라면 모두 가능함은 물론이다.
상기 탄소계 물질은 비정질 탄소, 결정질 탄소 또는 이들의 혼합물일 수 있다. 상기 비정질 탄소는, 그 예를 들면, 카본 블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 덴카 블랙, 케첸 블랙, 퍼니스 블랙, 활성탄 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다. 상기 카본 블랙의 예로는 슈퍼 피(Super P, Timcal사)를 들 수 있다. 상기 결정질 탄소는 천연 흑연, 인조 흑연, 탄소 나노튜브, 그래핀 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다. 상기 결정질 탄소는 무졍한, 판상, 린편상(flake), 구형 또는 섬유형일 수 있다.
일 구현예에서, 상기 탄소계 물질은 단일 입자일 수 있고, 1차 입자들이 조립된 2차 입자 형태를 갖는 조립체일 수도 있다. 상기 탄소계 물질이 단일 입자인 경우, 탄소계 물질의 크기는 평균 입경 100nm 이하, 예를 들어 10nm 내지 100nm의 나노사이즈일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 탄소계 물질이 조립체인 경우, 상기 1차 입자의 입경은 20nm 내지 100nm일 수 있고, 상기 2차 입자의 입경은 1㎛ 내지 20㎛일 수 있다.
일 구현예에서, 상기 1차 입자의 입경은 20nm 이상, 30nm 이상, 40nm 이상, 50nm 이상, 60nm 이상, 70nm 이상, 80nm 이상 또는 90nm 이상일 수 있으며, 100nm 이하, 90nm 이하, 80nm 이하, 70nm 이하, 60nm 이하, 50nm 이하, 40nm 이하 또는 30nm 이하일 수 있다.
일 구현예에서, 상기 2차 입자의 입경은 1㎛ 이상, 3㎛ 이상, 5㎛ 이상, 7㎛ 이상, 10㎛ 이상 또는 15㎛ 이상일 수 있으며, 20㎛ 이하, 15㎛ 이하, 10㎛ 이하, 7㎛ 이하, 5㎛ 이하 또는 3㎛ 이하일 수 있다.
상기 1차 입자의 형태는 구형, 타원형, 판상형 및 이들의 조합일 수 있으며, 일 구현예에서, 상기 1차 입자의 형태는 구형, 타원형 및 이들의 조합일 수 있다.
상기 금속은 Ag, Au, Sn, Zn, Al, Mg, Ge, Cu, In, Ni, Bi, Pt, Pd 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다. 음극 코팅층이 상기 금속을 포함함에 따라, 음극의 전기 전도성을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있다.
상기 금속은 나노 입자일 수 있으며, 상기 금속 나노 입자의 크기는, 예를 들어 평균 크기는 5nm 내지 80nm일 수 있으나, 나노미터 크기이면 적절하게 사용할 수 있다. 이러한 나노 크기를 갖는 상기 금속 나노 입자를 사용하면, 전고체 전지의 전지 특성(예를 들면, 수명 특성)을 향상시킬 수 있다. 금속 입자 크기가 마이크로미터 단위로 증가하는 경우, 음극 코팅층에서 금속 입자의 균일성이 감소하여, 특정 영역의 전류 밀도가 증가하고, 사이클 수명 특성이 저하될 수 있어 적절하지 않다.
또한, 상기 금속의 함량은 상기 음극 코팅층 전체 100 중량%에 대하여 3 중량% 내지 30 중량%, 4 중량% 내지 25 중량%, 5 중량% 내지 20 중량%, 또는 5 중량% 내지 15 중량%일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 탄소계 물질은 상기 음극 코팅층 전체 100 중량%에 대하여 70 중량% 내지 97 중량%, 75 중량% 내지 96 중량%, 80 중량% 내지 95 중량%, 또는 85 중량% 내지 95 중량%일 수 있다.
상기 음극 코팅층은 바인더를 더욱 포함할 수 있다. 이 바인더는 비수용성 바인더일 수 있다.
상기 비수용성 바인더는 예를 들어 폴리비닐클로라이드, 카르복실화된 폴리비닐클로라이드, 폴리비닐플루오라이드, 에틸렌 옥사이드를 포함하는 폴리머, 에틸렌 프로필렌 공중합체, 폴리스티렌, 폴리비닐피롤리돈, 폴리우레탄, 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 폴리아미드이미드, 폴리이미드, 폴리아크릴레이트, 또는 이들의 조합을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 바인더는 음극 코팅층 전체 100 중량%에 대하여 1 내지 15 중량%일 수도 있고, 예를 들어, 상기 바인더는 음극 코팅층 전체 100 중량%에 대하여 1 중량% 이상, 2 중량% 이상, 3 중량% 이상, 4 중량% 이상, 5 중량% 이상, 6 중량% 이상, 7 중량% 이상, 8 중량% 이상, 9 중량% 이상, 10 중량% 이상, 11 중량% 이상, 12 중량% 이상, 13 중량% 이상 또는 14 중량% 이상, 및 15 중량% 이하, 14 중량% 이하, 13 중량% 이하, 12 중량% 이하, 11 중량% 이하, 10 중량% 이하, 9 중량% 이하, 8 중량% 이하, 7 중량% 이하, 6 중량% 이하, 5 중량% 이하, 4 중량% 이하, 3 중량% 이하 또는 2 중량% 이하로 포함될 수 있다.
상기 바인더가 상기 함량 범위로 전고체 전지의 음극 코팅층에 포함되는 경우, 전기 저항과 접착력이 개선되어 전고체 전지의 특성(전지 용량 및 출력 특성)이 향상될 수 있다.
상기 음극 코팅층은 예를 들어, 필러, 분산제 등의 첨가제를 더욱 포함할 수도 있다. 또한, 음극 코팅층에 포함 가능한 필러, 분산제 등으로, 일반적으로 전고체 전지에 사용되는 공지의 재료를 사용할 수 있다.
상기 음극 코팅층의 두께는 1㎛ 내지 20㎛일 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 음극 코팅층의 두께는 1㎛ 이상, 3㎛ 이상, 5㎛ 이상일 수 있고, 20㎛ 이하, 18㎛ 이하, 16㎛ 이하, 14㎛ 이하, 12㎛ 이하, 10㎛ 이하일 수 있다.
상기 전류 집전체는 예를 들어, 인듐(In), 구리(Cu), 마그네슘(Mg), 스테인리스 강, 티타늄(Ti), 철(Fe), 코발트(Co), 니켈(Ni), 아연(Zn), 알루미늄(Al), 게르마늄(Ge), 리튬(Li) 또는 이들의 합금일 수 있으며, 포일(foil) 또는 쉬트 형태일 수 있다. 음극 집전체의 두께는 1㎛ 내지 20㎛일 수 있고, 5㎛ 내지 15㎛, 또는 7㎛ 내지 10㎛일 수 있다.
상기 전류 집전체는 상기 금속을 기재로 하고, 이 기재에 형성된 박막을 더욱 포함할 수도 있다. 상기 박막은 리튬과 합금을 형성할 수 있는 원소를 포함하며, 예를 들어 금, 은, 아연, 주석, 인듐, 규소, 알루미늄, 비스무스 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있으며, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니며 당해 기술분야에서 리튬과 합금을 형성할 수 있는 원소라면 모두 가능하다. 전류 집전체가 박막을 더욱 포함하는 경우, 상기 리튬 함유층이 충전시 석출되어 형성되는 경우, 보다 평탄화된 리튬 함유층을 형성할 수 있어, 전고체 전지의 사이클 수명을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있다.
상기 박막의 두께는 1nm 내지 800nm일 수 있고, 10nm 내지 700nm, 50nm 내지600nm, 또는 100nm 내지 500nm일 수 있다. 박막 두께가 상기 범위에 포함되는 경우, 사이클 수명 특성을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있다.
일 구현예에 따른 음극은 전지 제조 후, 초기 충전시 형성되는 리튬 함유층을 상기 전류 집전체와 상기 음극 코팅층 사이에 더욱 포함할 수 있다. 상기 리튬 함유층의 두께는 1㎛ 내지 1000㎛일 수 있고, 1㎛ 내지 500㎛, 1㎛ 내지 200㎛, 1㎛ 내지 150㎛, 1㎛ 내지 100㎛, 또는 1㎛ 내지 50㎛일 수 있다. 리튬 함유층의 두께가 상기 범위에 포함되는 경우, 리튬 저장고 역할을 적절하게 수행할 수 있고, 수명을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있는 장점이 있을 수 있다.
상기 리튬 함유층은 전지 제조 후, 충전시 양극 활물질로부터 리튬 이온이 방출되어, 고체 전해질을 통과하여 음극쪽으로 이동하게 되고, 결과적으로 음극 전류 집전체에 리튬이 석출 및 증착되어, 형성될 수 있다.
상기 충전 공정은 약 25℃ 내지 50℃에서 0.05C 내지 1C로 1회 내지 3회 실시한 화성 공정일 수 있다. 리튬이 석출 및 증착되어 리튬 함유층이 형성되는 경우, 방전시 리튬 함유층에 포함된 리튬이 이온화되어 양극 방향으로 이동하므로, 이 리튬을 음극 활물질로서 사용할 수 있다.
일 구현예에서, 리튬 함유층이 전류 집전체와 음극 코팅층 사이에 위치하므로, 음극 코팅층이 리튬 함유층의 보호층으로서 역할을 할 수 있고, 이에 리튬 덴드라이트의 석출 성장을 억제할 수 있다. 이에 전고체 전지의 단락 및 용량 저하를 억제하고, 결과적으로 전고체 전지의 사이클 수명을 향상시킬 수 있다.
상기 고체 전해질층은 고체 전해질을 포함한다. 이 고체 전해질은 황화물계 고체 전해질, 산화물계 고체 전해질, 할라이드계 고체 전해질 등의 무기 고체 전해질이거나 또는 고체 고분자 전해질일 수 있다. 상기 황화물계 고체 전해질, 산화물계 고체 전해질, 할라이드계 고체 전해질, 및 고체 고분자 전해질의 예는 상술한 바와 같다. 또한 이 고체 전해질은 상기 양극에 사용되는 전해질과 동일할 수도 있고, 상이할 수도 있다.
상기 고체 전해질층은 바인더를 더욱 포함할 수도 있다. 이때, 바인더로는 스티렌 부타디엔 러버, 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드, 폴리에틸렌, 아크릴레이트계 고분자 또는 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있으나, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니며, 당해 기술 분야에서 바인더로 사용되는 것은 어떠한 것도 사용할 수 있다. 상기 아크릴레이트계 고분자는 부틸 아크릴레이트, 폴리아크릴레이트, 폴리메타크릴레이트 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다.
상기 고체 전해질층은 고체 전해질을 바인더 용액에 첨가하고, 이를 기재 필름에 코팅하고, 건조하여 형성할 수 있다. 상기 바인더 용액의 용매로는 이소부티릴 이소부틸레이트, 자일렌, 톨루엔, 벤젠, 헥산 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다. 상기 고체 전해질층 형성 공정은 당해 분야에 널리 알려져있기에, 본 명세서에서 자세한 설명을 생략하기로 한다.
일 구현예에서, 전고체 전지가 충방전시 발생되는 두께 변화를 완충시키기 위한 완충재가 추가로 포함될 수 있다. 상기 완충재는 상기 음극과 케이스 사이에 위치할 수 있고, 전극 조립체가 하나 이상 적층되는 전지일 경우, 서로 다른 전극 조립체와 전극 조립체 사이에 위치할 수 있다.
상기 완충재로 탄성 회복율이 50% 이상이며, 절연 기능을 갖는 물질을 들 수 있고, 구체적으로 실리콘 고무, 아크릴 고무, 불소계 고무, 나일론, 합성 고무 또는 이들의 조합을 들 수 있다. 상기 완충재는 고분자 시트(sheet) 형태로 존재할 수 있다.
도 2는 일 구현예에 따른 전고체 전지의 단면도이다. 도 2를 참고하면, 전고체 전지(100)는 음극 집전체(401)와 음극층(403)을 포함하는 음극(400), 고체 전해질층(300), 및 양극(200)이 적층된 전극 조립체가 파우치 등의 케이스에 수납된 구조일 수 있다. 상기 전고체 전지(100)는 양극(200)과 음극(400) 중 적어도 하나의 외측에 탄성층(500)을 더 포함할 수 있다. 도 2에는 음극(400), 고체 전해질층(300) 및 양극(200)을 포함하는 하나의 전극 조립체가 도시되어 있으나 2개 이상의 전극 조립체를 적층하여 전고체 전지를 제작할 수도 있다.
도 3은 다른 일 구현예에 따른 전고체 전지를 개략적으로 나타낸 것이다. 도 3에 나타낸 전고체 전지(100)는 양극(200), 음극 전류 집전체(401’), 음극층(403’)을 포함하는 음극(400’) 및 상기 양극(200)과 상기 음극(400) 사이에 위치하는 고체 전해질(300)을 포함하고, 이들이 수납된 전지 케이스(500)을 포함하고, 또한, 리튬 석출층(405‘)을 상기 음극 전류 집전체(401’)과 상기 음극 코팅층(403’) 사이에 포함한다. 이러한 리튬 석출층은 전고체 전지를 충전하면, 리튬 이온이 양극 활물질로부터 방출되어, 음극 전류 집전체(401‘)에 증착되어 형성될 수 있다.
일 구현예에 따른 전고체 전지는 음극, 양극, 및 이 음극과 이 양극 사이에 고체 전해질층을 위치시켜, 적층체를 준비하고, 이 적층체를 가압(press)하는 단계로 제조될 수 있다.
상기 가압 공정은 25℃ 내지 90℃의 범위에서 실시할 수 있다. 또한, 상기 가압 공정은 550MPa 이하, 예를 들어 500MPa 이하, 예를 들어 1MPa 내지 500MPa 범위의 압력으로 가압하여 실시할 수 있다. 가압시간은 온도 및 압력 등에 따라 달라질 수 있고 예를 들어 60분 미만일 수 있다. 상기 가압 공정은 예를 들어 정수압(isostatic press), 롤가압(roll press), 평판 가압(plate press), 또는 온간등방압력(warm isostatic press)일 수 있다.
이하 본 발명의 실시예 및 비교예를 기재한다. 그러나 하기한 실시예는 본 발명의 일 실시예일뿐 본 발명이 하기한 실시예에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
하기 실시예 및 비교예에서 혼합비는 최종 양극에서의 중량비를 기재하였다.
(실시예 1)
(1) 양극의 제조
LiNi0.9Mn0.05Co0.05O2 양극 활물질 및 케첸 블랙 도전재를 85:0.1 중량비로, 혼합기(Nobailta MINI(제조사: 호소카와미크론)를 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 2분간 혼합하여 혼합물을 제조하였다.
상기 혼합물과 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl를 85.1:0.05 중량비로, 혼합기(Nobailta MINI)를 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 5분간 혼합하여 전해질 혼합물을 제조하였다.
상기 전해질 혼합물, 케첸 블랙 도전재, 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5C과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 85.15:0.3:13.1:1.45 중량비로, 믹서(THINKY MIXER) 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 1분씩 10회 혼합하여 바인더 혼합물을 제조하였다.
상기 바인더 혼합물을 압출기를 이용하여, 60℃에서, 100rmp의 스크류 회전 속도 및 압출시 2의 토크 조건(바인더 혼합물을 500g/시간으로 투입)으로 압출을 실시하여 압출 생성물을 제조하였다.
상기 압출 생성물을 10000rpm 회전 속도로 2분간 해쇄하였다.
이어서, 얻어진 생성물을 2롤을 사용한 롤-프레스를 60℃에서 3rpm의 롤 회전 속도로 실시하여 쉬트형 양극 활물질층을 제조하였다. 제조된 쉬트형 양극 활물질층의 두께는 200㎛였다. 제조된 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질과 이 양극 활물질 표면에 부착된 도전재의 코어와, 이 코어 표면을 둘러싸는 전해질의 복합 활물질이 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 상태였다.
상기 양극 활물질층을 알루미늄 양극 전류 집전체 상에 위치시켜, 양극을 제조하였다.
(2) 음극의 제조
Ag 나노입자(D50: 60nm)와 카본 블랙을 10:90 중량비로 물 용매 중에서 혼합하여 음극 코팅층 슬러리를 제조하였다. 상기 카본 블랙으로는 입경이 38nm인 단일 입자와, 2차 입자의 혼합물이었으며, 상기 2차 입자는 입경이 76nm인 1차 입자들이 조립되고, 입경이 275nm인 2차 입자였다.
상기 슬러리를 스테인리스 강 포일 전류 집전체에 코팅한 후, 80℃에서 진공건조하여, 12㎛ 두께의 음극 코팅층 및 두께가 10㎛인 전류 집전체를 포함하는 음극을 제조하였다. 상기 음극 코팅층의 두께는 12㎛였다.
(3) 고체 전해질 층의 제조
아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl에 부틸 아크릴레이트(butyl acrylate)인 아크릴레이트계 고분자가 첨가된 아이소부티릴아이소부티레이트(isobutylyl isobutylate) 바인더 용액(고형분 함량: 50 중량%)을 투입하고 혼합하였다. 이때, 고체 전해질과 바인더의 혼합비는 98.7: 1.3 중량비가 되게 하였다.
상기 혼합 공정은 싱키 혼합기(Thinky mixer)를 이용하여 실시하였다. 얻어진 혼합물에 2mm 지르코니아 볼을 첨가하고 싱키 혼합기로 다시 교반하여 슬러리를 제조하였다. 상기 슬러리를 이형 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 필름 상에 캐스팅하고 상온 건조하여, 고체 전해질층 두께가 100㎛인 고체 전해질을 제조하였다.
(4) 전고체 전지(full cell)의 제조
상기 양극, 상기 고체 전해질 및 상기 음극을 차례로 적층하고, 이를 파우치 형태로 밀봉하여 80℃에서 500 MPa로 30분간 고온으로, 정수압 프레스하여 전고체 이차 전지(미니셀)를 제조하였다.
(실시예 2)
상기 혼합물과 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl의 혼합비를 85.1:0.1 중량비로 변경하고, 상기 전해질 혼합물, 케첸 블랙 도전재, 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5C과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 85.2:0.3:13.1:1.4 중량비로 변경한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 양극을 제조하였다.
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 음극 및 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질을 사용하여, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 전고체 전지를 제조하였다.
(실시예 3)
상기 혼합물과 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl의 혼합비를 85.1:0.2 중량비로 변경하고, 상기 전해질 혼합물, 케첸 블랙 도전재, 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5C과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 85.3:0.3:13.1:1.3 중량비로 변경한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 양극을 제조하였다.
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 음극 및 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질을 사용하여, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 전고체 전지를 제조하였다.
(실시예 4)
상기 혼합물과 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl의 혼합비를 85.1:0.4 중량비로 변경하고, 상기 전해질 혼합물, 케첸 블랙 도전재, 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5C과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 85.5:0.3:13.1:1.3 중량비로 변경한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 양극을 제조하였다.
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 음극 및 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질을 사용하여, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 전고체 전지를 제조하였다.
(실시예 5)
LiNi0.9Mn0.05Co0.05O2 양극 활물질 및 케첸 블랙 도전재를 85.2:0.1 중량비로 혼합하여 혼합물을 제조하고, 상기 혼합물과 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl를 85.3:0.05 중량비로 혼합하여 전해질 혼합물을 제조하고, 상기 전해질 혼합물, 케첸 블랙 도전재, 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 85.35:0.3:13.55:0.8 중량비로 혼합한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 양극을 제조하였다.
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 음극 및 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질을 사용하여, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 전고체 전지를 제조하였다.
(실시예 6)
LiNi0.9Mn0.05Co0.05O2 양극 활물질 및 케첸 블랙 도전재를 85.4:0.1 중량비로 혼합하여 혼합물을 제조하고, 상기 혼합물과 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl를 85.5:0.05 중량비로 혼합하여 전해질 혼합물을 제조하고, 상기 전해질 혼합물, 케첸 블랙 도전재, 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 85.55:0.3:13.55:0.6 중량비로 혼합한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 양극을 제조하였다.
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 음극 및 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질을 사용하여, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 전고체 전지를 제조하였다.
(실시예 7)
LiNi0.9Mn0.05Co0.05O2 양극 활물질 및 케첸 블랙 도전재를 85.6:0.1 중량비로 혼합하여 혼합물을 제조하고, 상기 혼합물과 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl를 85.7:0.05 중량비로 혼합하여 전해질 혼합물을 제조하고, 상기 전해질 혼합물, 케첸 블랙 도전재, 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 86.75:0.3:13.55:0.4 중량비로 혼합한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 양극을 제조하였다.
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 음극 및 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질을 사용하여, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 전고체 전지를 제조하였다.
(비교예 1)
(1) 양극의 제조
LiNi0.9Mn0.05Co0.05O2 양극 활물질 및 케첸 블랙 도전재를 85:0.4 중량비로, 혼합기(Nobailta MINI(제조사: 호소카와미크론)를 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 7분간 혼합하였다.
상기 혼합물, 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 85.4:13.6:1 중량비로, 믹서(THINKY MIXER)를 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 1분씩 10회 혼합하여 바인더 혼합물을 제조하였다.
상기 바인더 혼합물을 압출기를 이용하여, 60℃에서, 100rmp의 스크류 회전 속도 및 압출시 2의 토크 조건(바인더 혼합물을 500g/시간으로 투입)으로 압출을 실시하여 압출 생성물을 제조하였다.
상기 압출 생성물을 10000rpm 회전 속도로 2분간 해쇄하였다.
이어서, 얻어진 생성물을 2롤을 사용한 롤-프레스를 60℃에서 3rpm의 롤 회전 속도로 실시하여 쉬트형 양극 활물질층을 제조하였다. 제조된 쉬트형 양극 활물질층의 두께는 200㎛였다. 제조된 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질과 이 양극 활물질 표면에 부착된 도전재의 복합 활물질이 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 상태였다.
상기 양극 활물질층을 알루미늄 양극 전류 집전체 상에 위치시켜, 양극을 제조하였다.
(2) 전고체 전지(full cell)의 제조
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질 및 상기 실시예 1의 음극을 차례로 적층하고, 이를 파우치 형태로 밀봉하여 80℃에서 500 MPa로 30분간 고온으로, 정수압 프레스하여 전고체 이차 전지(미니셀)를 제조하였다.
(비교예 2)
(1) 양극의 제조
LiNi0.9Mn0.05Co0.05O2 양극 활물질 및 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl를 도전재를 85:13.6 중량비로, 혼합기(Nobailta MINI(제조사: 호소카와미크론)를 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 7분간 혼합하였다.
상기 고체전해질 혼합물, 케첸 블랙 도전재와 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 98.6:0.4:1 중량비로, 믹서(THINKY MIXER) 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 1분간 10번 혼합하여 바인더 혼합물을 제조하였다.
얻어진 혼합물을 압출기를 이용하여, 60℃에서, 100rmp의 스크류 회전 속도 및 압출시 2의 토크 조건으로 압출을 실시하여 압출 생성물을 제조하였다.
상기 압출 생성물을 10000rpm 회전 속도로 2분간 해쇄하였다.
이어서, 얻어진 생성물을 2롤을 사용한 롤-프레스를 60℃에서 3rpm의 롤 회전 속도로 실시하여 쉬트형 양극 활물질층을 제조하였다. 제조된 쉬트형 양극 활물질층의 두께는 200㎛였다. 제조된 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질 및 이 양극 활물질 표면을 둘러싸는 고체 전해질층의 복합 활물질이 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 상태였다.
상기 양극 활물질층을 알루미늄 양극 전류 집전체 상에 위치시켜, 양극을 제조하였다.
(2) 전고체 온 전지(full cell)의 제조
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질 및 상기 실시예 1의 음극을 차례로 적층하고, 이를 파우치 형태로 밀봉하여 80℃에서 500 MPa로 30분간 고온으로, 정수압 프레스하여 전고체 이차 전지(미니셀)를 제조하였다.
(비교예 3)
(1) 양극의 제조
LiNi0.9Mn0.05Co0.05O2 양극 활물질 및 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl를 도전재를 85:0.6 중량비로, 혼합기(Nobailta MINI(제조사: 호소카와미크론)를 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 7분간 혼합하였다.
상기 고체전해질 혼합물, 케첸 블랙 도전재, 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 85.6:0.4:13:1 중량비로 크실렌(xylene) 용매를 중에서 투입하고 믹서(THINKY MIXER) 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 1분간 10번 혼합하여 바인더 혼합물을 제조하였다.
상기 바인더 혼합물을 압출기를 이용하여, 60℃에서, 100rmp의 스크류 회전 속도 및 압출시 2의 토크 조건으로 압출을 실시하여 압출 생성물을 제조하였다.
상기 압출 생성물을 10000rpm 회전 속도로 2분간 해쇄하였다.
이어서, 얻어진 생성물을 2롤을 사용한 롤-프레스를 60℃에서 3rpm의 롤 회전 속도로 실시하여 쉬트형 양극 활물질층을 제조하였다. 제조된 쉬트형 양극 활물질층의 두께는 130㎛였다. 제조된 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질과 이 양극 활물질 표면을 둘러싸는 전해질의 코어와, 이 코어 표면에 위치하는 도전재의 복합 활물질이 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 상태였다. 상기 양극 활물질층을 알루미늄 양극 전류 집전체 상에 위치시켜, 양극을 제조하였다.
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 음극 및 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질을 사용하여, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 전고체 전지를 제조하였다.
(비교예 4)
(1) 양극의 제조
LiNi0.9Mn0.05Co0.05O2 양극 활물질과 아지로다이트형 고체 전해질 Li6PS5Cl를 85:13.6 중량비로, 혼합기(Nobailta MINI(제조사: 호소카와미크론)를 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 2분간 혼합하여 전해질 혼합물을 제조하였다.
상기 전해질 혼합물과 케첸 블랙 도전재를 98.6:0.4 중량비로, 혼합기(Nobailta MINI)를 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 5분간 혼합하여 혼합물을 제조하였다.
상기 혼합물과 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 바인더를 99:1 로, 믹서(THINKY MIXER) 사용하여, 2000rpm 교반 속도로 1분간 10번 혼합하여 바인더 혼합물을 제조하였다
상기 바인더 혼합물을 압출기를 이용하여, 60℃에서, 100rmp의 스크류 회전 속도 및 압출시 2의 토크 조건으로 압출을 실시하여 압출 생성물을 제조하였다.
상기 압출 생성물을 10000rpm 회전 속도로 2분간 해쇄하였다.
이어서, 얻어진 생성물을 2롤을 사용한 롤-프레스를 60℃에서 3rpm의 롤 회전 속도로 실시하여 쉬트형 양극 활물질층을 제조하였다. 제조된 쉬트형 양극 활물질층의 두께는 200㎛였다. 제조된 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질과 이 양극 활물질 표면을 둘러싸는 전해질의 코어 및 이 코어 표면에 위치하는 도전재의 복합 활물질이 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 상태였다.
상기 양극 활물질층을 알루미늄 양극 전류 집전체 상에 위치시켜, 양극을 제조하였다.
상기 양극과, 상기 실시예 1의 음극 및 상기 실시예 1의 고체 전해질을 사용하여, 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 전고체 전지를 제조하였다.
상기 실시예 1 내지 7 및 비교예 1 내지 3에서 제조된 양극에서, 양극 활물질, 바인더 매트릭스, 전해질 및 도전재의 함량을 하기 표 1에 나타내었다.

실험예 1) 방전 용량 및 초기 효율 평가
상기 실시예 1 내지 7 및 상기 비교예 1 내지 4의 전고체 전지를 0.1C로 1회 충방전을 실시하여, 충전 용량 및 방전 용량을 측정하였다. 측정된 방전 용량 결과를 하기 표 2에 나타내었다.
또한, 충전 용량에 대한 방전 용량의 비를 구하여, 그 결과를 초기 효율로 하기 표 2에 나타내었다.

상기 표 2에 나타낸 것과 같이, 양극 활물질, 이 양극 활물질 표면에 부착된 도전재 코어와 이 코어 표면을 둘러싸는 전해질의 복합 활물질이 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 쉬트형 양극을 사용한 실시예 1 내지 7의 전고체 전지는 방전 용량이 높고, 우수한 초기 효율을 나타냄을 알 수 있다.
반면에, 양극 활물질 및 도전재의 쉬트형 양극을 사용한 비교예 1은 낮은 방전 용량 및 초기 효율을 나타내었고, 양극 활물질 및 전해질의 쉬트형 양극을 사용한 비교예 2의 경우 방전 용량 및 초기 효율이 현저하게 저하되었음을 알 수 있다.
아울러, 쉬트형 양극 제조시 용매를 사용한 비교예 3은 낮은 방전 용량 및 초기 효율을 나타내었다.
또한, 양극 활물질과 이 양극 활물질 표면에 부착된 전해질의 코어 및 이 코어 표면을 둘러싸는 도전재의 복합 활물질이 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 쉬트형 양극을 사용한 비교예 4는 매우 낮은 방전 용량 및 초기 효율을 나타내었다.
이상을 통해 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예에 대하여 설명하였지만, 본 발명은 이에 한정되는 것이 아니고 특허청구범위와 발명의 상세한 설명 및 첨부한 도면의 범위 안에서 여러 가지로 변형하여 실시하는 것이 가능하고 이 또한 본 발명의 범위에 속하는 것은 당연하다.

Claims (16)

  1. 바인더 매트릭스; 및
    상기 바인더 매트릭스 내에 박혀있는 복합 활물질을 포함하고,
    상기 복합 활물질은 양극 활물질과 상기 양극 활물질 표면에 부착된 도전재를 포함하는 코어; 및 상기 코어 표면 상에 위치하는 전해질층을 포함하는 것인
    전고체 전지용 양극.
  2. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 바인더 매트릭스는 섬유형 바인더로 이루어진 것인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  3. 제2항에 있어서,
    상기 바인더는 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리비닐알코올, 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드, 또는 이들의 조합인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  4. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 바인더 매트릭스의 함량은 상기 양극 전체 중량에 대하여 0.1 중량% 내지 10 중량%인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  5. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 도전재의 함량은 상기 양극 전체 중량에 대하여 0.1 중량% 내지 10 중량%인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  6. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 전해질의 함량은 상기 양극 전체 중량에 대하여 3 중량% 내지 20 중량%인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  7. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 도전재의 함량은 상기 전해질의 함량보다 작은 것인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  8. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 전해질은 고체 전해질인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  9. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 양극은 쉬트형 양극인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  10. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 양극은 복합 활물질이 박혀있는 바인더 매트릭스로 이루어진 것인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  11. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 도전재는 탄소계 물질, 금속계 물질, 도전성 고분자 또는 이들의 조합인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  12. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 양극은 상기 양극 활물질과 상기 도전재를 혼합하여 혼합물을 제조하고;
    상기 혼합물에 상기 전해질을 혼합하여 전해질 혼합물을 제조하고;
    상기 전해질 혼합물, 상기 도전재, 상기 전해질 및 상기 바인더를 혼합하여 바인더 혼합물을 제조하고;
    상기 바인더 혼합물을 압출하는 공정으로 제조된 것인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  13. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 양극의 두께는 70㎛ 내지 500㎛인 전고체 전지용 양극.
  14. 제1항 내지 제13항 중 어느 한 항의 양극;
    음극; 및
    상기 양극과 상기 음극 사이에 위치하는 고체 전해질층
    을 포함하는 전고체 전지.
  15. 제14항에 있어서,
    상기 고체 전해질은 황화물계 고체 전해질인 전고체 전지.
  16. 제14항에 있어서,
    상기 전고체 전지는 초기 충전시 상기 전류 집전체와 상기 음극 코팅층 사이에 형성된 리튬 함유층을 더욱 포함하는 것인 전고체 전지.
