Abstract

본 발명은 순차 적층된 기재층, 가스 배리어층 및 실런트층을 포함하고, 상기 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량이 5mg/m2 내지 25mg/m2이고, 상기 활제량은 상기 파우치 필름 적층체를 MD 방향 100mm ⅹ TD 방향 100mm으로 재단하고, 상기 파우치 필름 적층체의 실런트층 표면에 클로로포름(Chloroform)을 5ml 적하한 뒤, 1분 동안 방치시켜 활제 추출 용액을 제조한 후, 상기 활제 추출 용액에 포함되는 활제량을 가스 크로마토그래피로 측정한 것인 파우치 필름 적층체에 관한 것이다.

관련출원과의 상호인용
본 출원은 2023년 11월 8일자 한국 특허 출원 제 10-2023-0154026호 및 2024년 5월 21일자 한국 특허 출원 제 10-2024-0065939호에 기초한 우선권의 이익을 주장하며, 그 내용 전부는 본 명세서에 포함된다.
기술분야
본 발명은 파우치 필름 적층체, 파우치형 전지 케이스 및 파우치형 이차 전지에 관한 것이다.
이차 전지는 디지털 카메라, P-DVD, MP3P, 휴대폰, PDA, Portable Game Device, Power Tool 및 E-bike 등의 소형 제품뿐만 아니라, 전기 자동차나 하이브리드 자동차와 같은 고출력이 요구되는 대형 제품과 잉여 발전 전력이나 신재생 에너지를 저장하는 전력 저장 장치와 백업용 전력 저장 장치에도 적용되어 사용되고 있다.
통상 이차 전지는 전극 활물질 슬러리를 양극 집전체 및 음극 집전체에 도포하여 양극과 음극을 제조하고, 이를 분리막(Separator)의 양 측에 적층함으로써 소정 형상의 전극 조립체(Electrode Assembly)를 형성한 다음, 전지 케이스에 전극 조립체를 수납하고 전해질 주입 후 실링하는 방법으로 제조된다.
이차 전지는 전극 조립체를 수용하는 케이스의 재질에 따라, 파우치 형(Pouch Type) 및 캔 형(Can Type) 등으로 분류된다. 파우치 형(Pouch Type)은 유연한 폴리머 재질로 제조된 파우치에 전극 조립체를 수용한다. 그리고, 캔 형(Can Type)은 금속 또는 플라스틱 등의 재질로 제조된 케이스에 전극 조립체를 수용한다.
파우치형 전지 케이스는, 유연성을 가지는 파우치 필름 적층체에 프레스 가공을 수행하여, 컵부를 형성함으로써 제조된다. 그리고, 컵부가 형성되면, 상기 컵부의 수용 공간에 전극 조립체를 수납하고 실링부를 실링하여 이차 전지를 제조한다.
이러한 프레스 가공 중에서 드로잉(Drawing) 성형은 프레스 장비에 파우치 필름을 삽입하고 펀치로 파우치 필름 적층체에 압력을 인가하여, 파우치 필름 적층체를 연신시킴으로써 수행된다. 파우치 필름 적층체는 일반적으로 금속 재질의 가스 배리어층 일면에 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 등과 같은 고분자 필름을 적층하고, 타면에 실런트층이 적층된 복수의 층으로 형성된다.
최근 전기 자동차용 배터리나 ESS 배터리와 같이 고용량 전지에 대한 요구가 높아짐에 따라, 더 많은 전극 조립체를 수납할 수 있는 전지 케이스에 대한 요구가 증가하고 있다. 이에 따라 파우치형 전지 케이스의 컵부 성형 깊이를 증가시키거나, 상부 케이스와 하부 케이스에 각각 컵부를 성형하여 컵부 부피를 증가시키는 2컵 성형 방법이 시도되고 있다.
종래의 파우치 필름 적층체 제조 시에는 파우치 필름끼리의 접착을 막고 후공정을 용이하게 처리하기 위해 파우치 필름 최내층의 실런트층에 활제를 포함시키거나, 실런트층 표면에 활제(slip agent)를 도포하였다. 그러나, 실런트층 표면에 과도한 양의 활제가 존재하는 경우, 컵부 성형을 위한 금형의 오염이 과도하여 공정성이 저하되거나 마찰력이 낮아져 컵부 성형 시 파우치 필름 적층체에 주름이 발생하는 문제가 발생한다. 또한, 실런트층 표면에 적은 양의 활제가 존재하는 경우, 컵부 성형 시 성형성이 저하되는 문제가 발생한다.
따라서, 성형 금형의 오염을 방지하여 공정성을 높이고, 컵부 성형시 나타나는 성형성 저하를 방지하기 위한 파우치 필름 적층체 개발이 요구되고 있다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제를 해결하기 위한 것으로, 성형 금형의 오염을 방지하여 공정성을 높이면서도 컵부 성형시 나타나는 주름 및 성형성 저하가 개선된 파우치 필름 적층체, 파우치형 전지 케이스 및 파우치형 이차 전지를 제공하는 것이다.
본 발명의 과제들은 이상에서 언급한 과제로 제한되지 않으며, 언급되지 않은 또 다른 과제들은 아래의 기재로부터 당업자에게 명확하게 이해될 수 있다.
[1] 본 발명은 순차 적층된 기재층, 가스 배리어층 및 실런트층을 포함하고, 상기 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량이 5mg/m2 내지 25mg/m2이고, 상기 활제량은 상기 파우치 필름 적층체를 MD 방향 100mm ⅹ TD 방향 100mm으로 재단하고, 상기 파우치 필름 적층체의 실런트층 표면에 클로로포름(Chloroform)을 5ml 적하한 뒤, 1분 동안 방치시켜 활제 추출 용액을 제조한 후, 상기 활제 추출 용액에 포함되는 활제량을 가스 크로마토그래피로 측정한 것인 파우치 필름 적층체를 제공한다.
[2] 본 발명은 상기 [1]에 있어서, 상기 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량이 5mg/m2 내지 14mg/m2일 수 있다.
[3] 본 발명은 상기 [1] 또는 [2]에 있어서, 상기 활제는 지방산 아마이드(amide)계열의 화합물에서 선택되는 1종 이상을 포함하는 것일 수 있다.
[4] 본 발명은 상기 [1] 내지 [3] 중 적어도 하나에 있어서, 상기 기재층은 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트(PET) 및 나일론(nylon) 중 어느 하나 이상을 포함하는 것일 수 있다.

본 발명에 따른 파우치 필름 적층체는 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 일정 범위로 제어하여, 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 과량의 활제로 인한 성형 금형의 활제 청소 주기를 낮추어 공정성을 개선하며, 컵부 성형 시 발생하는 주름을 방지하여 파우치 필름 적층체의 성형성을 향상시킨다. 또한, 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량 부족으로 인한 성형성 저하를 방지한다.
본 명세서에 첨부되는 도면들은 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예를 예시한 것이며, 전술한 발명의 내용과 함께 본 발명의 기술 사상을 더욱 잘 이해시키는 역할을 하는 것이므로, 본 발명은 그러한 도면에 기재된 사항에만 한정되어 해석되는 것은 아니다. 한편, 본 명세서에 수록된 도면에서의 요소의 형상, 크기, 축척 또는 비율 등은 보다 명확한 설명을 강조하기 위해서 과장될 수 있다.

이하, 본 발명을 보다 구체적으로 설명한다.
본 명세서 및 청구범위에 사용된 용어나 단어는 통상적이거나 사전적인 의미로 한정해서 해석되어서는 아니 되며, 발명자는 그 자신의 발명을 가장 최선의 방법으로 설명하기 위해 용어의 개념을 적절하게 정의할 수 있다는 원칙에 입각하여 본 발명의 기술적 사상에 부합하는 의미와 개념으로 해석되어야 한다.
본 발명에서 MD 방향(Machine Direction)은 파우치 필름 적층체의 길이 방향을 의미하고, TD 방향(Transverse Direction)은 파우치 필름 적층체의 폭 방향을 의미한다.
본 발명자들은 잦은 금형 청소로 인한 공정성 저하를 방지하고, 파우치 필름 적층체 컵부 성형 시 발생하는 주름을 억제하면서도, 컵부 최대 성형 깊이를 증가시킨 파우치 필름 적층체에 대한 개발을 거듭한 결과, 특정한 측정방법으로 측정된 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 일정 범위로 제어할 경우 우수한 공정성 및 성형성을 가진 파우치 필름 적층체를 제조할 수 있음을 알아내고 본 발명을 완성하였다.
파우치 필름 적층체
도 1에는 본 발명에 따른 파우치 필름 적층체의 일 실시예가 도시되어 있다. 이하에서는 도 1을 참조하여 본 발명에 따른 파우치 필름 적층체에 대해 설명하기로 한다.
도 1을 참조하면, 본 발명에 따른 파우치 필름 적층체(1)는, 순차 적층된 기재층(10), 가스 배리어층(20) 및 실런트층(30)을 포함하고, 상기 실런트층(30)의 표면에 존재하는 활제량이 5mg/m2 내지 25mg/m2이고, 상기 활제량은 상기 파우치 필름 적층체를 MD 방향 100mm ⅹ TD 방향 100mm으로 재단하고, 상기 파우치 필름 적층체의 실런트층 표면에 클로로포름(Chloroform)을 5ml 적하한 뒤, 1분 동안 방치시켜 활제 추출 용액을 제조한 후, 상기 활제 추출 용액에 포함되는 활제량을 가스 크로마토그래피로 측정한 것이다.
종래의 파우치 필름 적층체 제조 시에는 파우치 필름 적층체끼리의 접착을 막고 후공정을 용이하게 처리하기 위해 파우치 필름 최내층의 실런트층에 활제를 포함시키거나, 실런트층 표면에 활제(slip agent)를 도포하는 등의 방법으로 실런트층 표면에 활제가 존재하도록 하였다. 그러나, 실런트층 표면에 활제량이 과도하게 많아지는 경우에는, 성형 금형이 활제로 인해 빠르게 오염되어 성형 금형을 자주 청소해야할 필요가 있어 공정성이 저하되는 문제가 있으며, 마찰력이 너무 낮아 낮은 성형 타수에서도 주름이 발생하는 문제가 있다.
또한, 상기 공정성과 주름의 문제를 방지하기 위해 실런트층 표면에 활제가 존재하지 않도록 하거나, 너무 적은 양의 활제가 존재하도록 하는 경우에는, 파우치 필름 적층체끼리의 접착이 일어나 공정성이 저하되거나, 파우치 필름 적층체 컵부 성형 시 마찰력이 너무 높아 컵부 최대 성형 깊이가 저하되는 문제가 있다.
따라서, 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 일정 범위로 제어할 경우, 우수한 공정성 및 성형성을 가진 파우치 필름 적층체를 제조할 수 있다. 또한, 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량은 측정방법에 따라 상이할 수 있으므로, 우수한 공정성 및 성형성을 구현할 수 있는 활제량을 특정한 측정방법으로 측정하고자 한다.
상기 실런트층(30)의 표면에 존재하는 활제량은 5mg/m2 내지 25mg/m2이다. 구체적으로 상기 실런트층(30)의 표면에 존재하는 활제량은 5.5mg/m2 이상, 6mg/m2 이상, 6.5mg/m2 이상 또는 7.0mg/m2이상일 수 있고, 24mg/m2 이하, 22mg/m2 이하, 20mg/m2 이하, 18mg/m2 이하, 16mg/m2 이하 또는 14mg/m2 이하일 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 상기 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량은 5mg/m2 내지 14mg/m2일 수 있다. 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량이 5mg/m2 미만일 경우에는, 마찰력이 과도하여 파우치 필름 적층체 제조 시 서로 달라붙게 되는 블락킹(blocking) 현상이 일어나 공정성이 저하되는 문제가 발생하며, 파우치 필름 적층체 컵부 성형 시 최대 성형 깊이가 저하되는 문제가 발생한다. 또한, 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량이 25mg/m2 초과일 경우에는, 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 과량의 활제로 인해 성형 금형의 활제 청소 주기가 짧아져 공정성이 저하되는 문제가 발생하며, 마찰력이 낮아 성형 금형이 미끄러지면서 파우치 필름 적층체가 불균일하게 연신되므로 파우치 필름 적층체 컵부 성형 시 주름이 발생하는 문제가 있다. 주름이 발생할 경우, 전극 조립체가 파우치 필름 적층체 컵부 내부에 밀착되어 수납되지 못하므로 에너지 밀도가 낮아지는 문제가 있다. 이때, 전극 조립체를 억지로 수납하게 되면 전극 조립체가 파단되어 단락이 일어나는 문제가 발생한다.
따라서, 상기 범위를 만족하는 경우, 파우치 필름 적층체끼리의 블락킹(blocking) 현상을 방지할 수 있으며, 성형 금형의 활제 청소 주기가 길어 공정성이 우수할 수 있고, 컵부 성형 시 주름이 발생하지 않을 수 있으며 최대 성형 깊이가 우수할 수 있다.
상기 실런트층(30) 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 측정하는 방법으로써, 상기 활제량은 상기 파우치 필름 적층체를 MD 방향 100mm ⅹ TD 방향 100mm으로 재단하고, 상기 파우치 필름 적층체의 실런트층 표면에 클로로포름(Chloroform)을 5ml 적하한 뒤, 1분 동안 방치시켜 활제 추출 용액을 제조한 후, 상기 활제 추출 용액에 포함되는 활제량을 가스 크로마토그래피로 측정하는 것이다.
상기 방법의 경우, 적절한 종류의 용매로 적절한 시간동안 활제를 추출할 수 있어, 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 정확히 측정할 수 있다는 측면에서 바람직하다. 이와 달리, 과도한 시간동안 활제를 추출할 경우, 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제뿐만 아니라, 실런트층 내부에 존재하는 활제까지 과하게 추출되는 문제가 발생할 수 있어, 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 정확히 측정할 수 없다는 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 정확히 측정하지 못하는 경우, 본 발명에 따른 활제량 범위를 만족하더라도 파우치 필름 적층체가 우수한 공정성 및 성형성 효과를 나타내지 못하는 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 예컨대, 실런트층 표면에 용매를 적하한 뒤 3분 이상 방치시킬 경우, 실런트층 내부에 포함된 활제가 과도하게 용매에 추출되어 정확한 실런트층 표면의 활제량을 측정하기 어려울 수 있다.
예를 들어, 2장의 파우치 필름 적층체를 실런트층끼리 접하여 주머니체를 제작한 후, 상기 주머니체의 내부 공간 내에 클로로포름이 아닌 아세톤을 주입하여 실런트층의 표면과 아세톤이 접촉한 상태에서 1분이 아닌 3분간 방치하는 경우, 실런트층 표면의 활제량이 아닌, 실런트층 내부에 포함된 활제가 과도하게 용매에 추출되는 문제가 있다. 우수한 성형성 및 공정성을 구현하기 위해서는 실런트층 내부에 포함된 활제량이 아닌, 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 명확히 측정해야 한다. 따라서, 상기와 같이 실런트층 내부에 포함된 활제를 과도하게 석출시켜 실런트층 표면의 활제량을 측정하는 경우에는 우수한 성형성 및 공정성을 구현할 수 있는 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 명확히 파악하기 어렵다.
즉, 본 발명의 일 특징은, 실런트층 내부에 포함된 활제가 아닌, 성형성 및 공정성에 영향을 미치는 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량을 명확히 측정하는 것에 있다.
상기 가스 크로마토그래피로 측정하는 방법은, 통상적으로 사용하는 측정기기에 의해서 측정되는 것이라면 제한되지는 않으나, 예를 들어 GC-2010 plus(Shimadzu 社)로 측정될 수 있다.
상기 활제는 슬립성을 부여할 수 있는 화합물이라면 특별히 한정되지는 않으나, 구체적으로 지방산 아마이드(amide)계열의 화합물에서 선택되는 1종 이상을 포함하는 것일 수 있고, 보다 구체적으로 포화지방산아마이드, 불포화지방산아마이드, 치환아마이드, 메티롤아마이드, 포화지방산비스아마이드, 불포화지방산비스아마이드, 지방산에스테르아마이드 및 방향족계 비스아마이드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1 종 이상일 수 있다.
상기 포화지방산아마이드는 특별히 한정되지는 않으나, 구체적으로 라우린산아마이드, 팔미틴산아마이드, 스테아린산아마이드, 베헨산아마이드 및 히드록시스테아린산아마이드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1 종 이상일 수 있다.
상기 불포화지방산아마이드는 특별히 한정되지는 않으나, 구체적으로 올레인산아마이드 및 에루카산아마이드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1종 이상일 수 있다.
상기 치환아마이드는 특별히 한정되지는 않으나, 구체적으로 N-올레일팔미틴산아마이드, N-스테아릴스테아린산아마이드, N-스테아릴올레인산아마이드, N-올레일스테아린산아마이드 및 N-스테아릴에루카산아마이드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1 종 이상일 수 있다.
상기 메티롤아마이드는 특별히 한정되지는 않으나, 구체적으로 메티롤스테아린산아마이드일 수 있다.
상기 포화지방산비스아마이드는 특별히 한정되지는 않으나, 구체적으로 메틸렌비스스테아린산아마이드, 에틸렌비스카프린산아마이드, 에틸렌비스라우린산아마이드, 에틸렌비스스테아린산아마이드, 에틸렌비스히드록시스테아린산아마이드, 에틸렌비스베헨산아마이드, 헥사메틸렌비스스테아린산아마이드, 헥사메틸렌비스베헨산아마이드, 헥사메틸렌히드록시스테아린산아마이드, N,N'-디스테아릴아디핀산아마이드 및 N,N'-디스테아릴세바신산아마이드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1 종 이상일 수 있다.
상기 불포화지방산비스아마이드는 특별히 한정되지는 않으나 구체적으로, 에틸렌비스올레인산아마이드, 에틸렌비스에루카산아마이드, 헥사메틸렌비스올레인산아마이드 및 N,N'-디올레일세바신산아마이드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1 종 이상일 수 있다.
상기 지방산에스테르아마이드는 특별히 한정되지는 않으나 구체적으로, 스테아로아마이드에틸스테아레이트일 수 있다.
상기 방향족계 비스아마이드는 특별히 한정되지는 않으나 구체적으로, m-크실렌비스스테아린산아마이드, m-크실렌비스히드록시스테아린산아마이드 및 N,N'-시스테아릴이소프탈산아마이드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1종 이상일 수 있다.
보다 더 구체적으로 에루카마이드(erucamide), 베헤나마이드(behenamide), 올레아마이드(oleamide) 및 에틸렌비솔레아마이드(ethylene-bisoleamide)로부터 선택되는 1종 이상을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 조건을 만족하는 경우, 실런트층에 나타나는 백화현상을 방지할 수 있고, 성형 공정 시 발생하는 오염을 방지할 수 있다는 측면에서 바람직할 수 있다.
이하, 본 발명에 따른 파우치 필름 적층체의 각 층에 대해 자세히 설명한다.
(기재층)
기재층(10)은 전지 케이스의 최외층에 배치되어 전극 조립체를 외부 충격으로부터 보호하고 전기적으로 절연시키기 위한 것으로서 상기 기재층(10)은 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트(PET) 및 나일론(nylon) 중 어느 하나 이상을 포함하는 것일 수 있다.
일 구현예에 따르면, 상기 기재층(10)은, 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 (PolyEthyleneTerephtalate; PET) 필름(12)과 나일론(Nylon) 필름(14)의 적층 구조일 수 있다. 이때, 상기 나일론 필름(14)이 가스 배리어층(20) 측, 즉, 내측으로 배치되고, 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 필름(12)이 전지 케이스의 표면 측으로 배치되는 것이 바람직하다.
폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트(PET)는 내구성 및 전기 절연성이 우수하여 PET 필름이 표면 측에 배치될 때, 내구성 및 절연성이 우수하게 나타난다. 다만, PET 필름의 경우, 가스 배리어층(20)을 구성하는 알루미늄 합금 박막과의 접착성이 약하고, 연신 거동도 상이하기 때문에 PET 필름을 가스 배리어층 측에 배치할 경우, 성형 과정에서 기재층과 가스 배리어층의 박리가 발생할 수 있고, 가스 배리어층이 균일하게 연신되지 않아 성형성이 저하되는 문제가 발생할 수 있다. 이에 비해, 나일론 필름은 가스 배리어층(20)을 구성하는 알루미늄 합금 박막과 연신 거동이 유사하기 때문에, 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트와 가스 배리어층 사이에 나일론 필름을 배치할 경우 성형성 개선 효과를 얻을 수 있다.
상기 기재층(10)의 두께는 5㎛ 내지 70㎛, 구체적으로 7㎛ 내지 65㎛, 보다 구체적으로 10㎛ 내지 60㎛일 수 있다. 상기 범위를 만족하는 경우, 성형성 및 성형 후 강성이 우수하게 나타날 수 있다.
또한, 상기 기재층(10)이 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 (PolyEthyleneTerephtalate; PET) 필름(12)과 나일론(Nylon) 필름(14)의 적층 구조일 경우, 상기 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 필름은 그 두께가 5㎛ 내지 30㎛, 바람직하게는 7㎛ 내지 30㎛, 더 바람직하게는 10㎛ 내지 27㎛일 수 있으며, 상기 나일론 필름은 그 두께가 10㎛ 내지 60㎛, 바람직하게는 10㎛ 내지 55㎛, 더 바람직하게는 15㎛ 내지 50㎛일 수 있다. 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 필름과 나일론 필름의 두께가 상기 범위를 만족할 때, 성형성 및 성형 후 강성이 우수하게 나타날 수 있다.
(가스 배리어층)
가스 배리어층(20)은 기재층(10) 및 실런트층(30) 사이에 적층되어 파우치의 기계적 강도를 확보하고, 이차 전지 외부의 가스 또는 수분 등의 출입을 차단하며, 파우치형 전지 케이스 내부로부터의 전해질 누액을 방지하기 위한 것이다.
가스 배리어층(20)은 금속으로 형성될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 가스 배리어층은 알루미늄(Al), 구리(Cu), 스테인리스 스틸(stainless steel, SUS), 니켈(Ni), 티타늄(Ti) 및 인바(INVAR)로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1종 이상의 금속을 포함하는 금속 박막일 수 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따르면, 가스 배리어층(20)은 알루미늄 합금 박막으로 형성될 수 있다. 알루미늄 합금 박막을 이용하여 가스 배리어층(20)을 형성할 경우, 소정 수준 이상의 기계적 강도를 확보할 수 있으면서도 무게가 가볍고 전극 조립체와 전해질에 의한 전기 화학적 성질에 대한 보완 및 방열성 등을 확보할 수 있다. 알루미늄 합금 박막에는 알루미늄(Al) 이외의 원소가 포함될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 알루미늄 합금 박막에는 철(Fe), 구리(Cu), 크롬(Cr), 망간(Mn), 니켈(Ni), 마그네슘(Mg), 실리콘(Si) 및 아연(Zn)으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 1종 이상이 포함될 수 있다.
다른 예에서, 가스 배리어층(20)은 스테인리스 스틸 박막으로 형성될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 가스 배리어층(20)이 스테인리스 스틸 박막을 성형 및/또는 가공하여 제조될 수 있다. 스테인리스 스틸로 형성된 가스 배리어층(20)은 열전도도가 상대적으로 낮아 열 폭주 시 다른 셀로의 열 확산을 방지하거나 지연시키는데 효과적이며, 인성(toughness)이 상대적으로 높아 파우치형 전지 사용 중 파우치의 크랙 발생을 억제할 수 있다. 스테인리스 스틸에는 철(Fe) 이외의 원소, 예를 들어, 구리(Cu), 크롬(Cr), 망간(Mn), 니켈(Ni), 마그네슘(Mg), 실리콘(Si), 아연(Zn)으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 1종 이상이 포함될 수 있다.
상기 가스 배리어층(20)의 두께는 20㎛ 내지 100㎛, 바람직하게는 30㎛ 내지 90㎛, 더 바람직하게는 40㎛ 내지 85㎛일 수 있고, 보다 더 바람직하게 40㎛ 내지 80㎛일 수 있다. 상기 범위를 만족하는 경우, 이차 전지 외부의 가스 또는 수분 등의 출입을 적절히 차단할 수 있고, 파우치형 전지 케이스 내부로부터의 전해질 누액을 적절히 방지할 수 있다는 측면에서 바람직하다. 또한, 컵부 성형시 성형성 및 가스 배리어 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다.
또한, 파우치 필름 적층체를 드로잉 성형하여 파우치형 전지 케이스 제조 시에 우수한 성형성 및 공정성을 구현할 수 있는 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량의 경우, 가스 배리어층 두께에 따라 영향을 받을 수 있다. 즉, 바람직하게는, 전술한 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량의 경우, 전술한 가스 배리어층 두께를 만족할 때 보다 우수한 성형성이 나타날 수 있다.
(실런트층)
실런트층(30)은 내측에 전극 조립체를 수용하고 있는 파우치형 전지 케이스가 실링될 때, 실링부에서 상호 열 접착됨으로써 파우치형 전지 케이스 내부를 완전히 밀폐시키기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해, 실런트층(30)은 우수한 열 접착 강도를 갖는 소재로 형성될 수 있다.
실런트층(30)은 절연성, 내식성, 실링성을 갖는 재질로 형성될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 실런트층(30)은 파우치형 전지 케이스 내측의 전극 조립체 및/또는 전해질과 직접 접촉하므로, 절연성 및 내식성을 갖는 재질로 형성될 수 있다. 또한, 실런트층(30)은 파우치형 전지 케이스 내부를 완전히 밀폐하여 내부/외부 간의 물질 이동을 차단해야 하므로, 높은 실링성(예를 들어, 우수한 열 접착 강도)을 갖는 재질로 형성될 수 있다. 이러한 절연성, 내식성, 실링성의 확보를 위해, 실런트층(30)은 폴리머 재질로 형성될 수 있다.
실런트층(30)은 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 폴리카보네이트, 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트, 폴리염화비닐, 아크릴계 고분자, 폴리아크릴로나이트릴, 폴리이미드, 폴리아마이드, 셀룰로오스, 나일론, 폴리에스테르, 폴리파라페닐렌벤조비스옥사졸, 폴리아릴레이트 및 테프론으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 하나 이상의 물질을 포함할 수 있으며, 구체적으로 폴리프로필렌(PP) 및/또는 폴리에틸렌(PE) 등의 폴리올레핀계 수지를 포함할 수 있다. 이 경우, 폴리프로필렌은 무연신 폴리프로필렌(Cast Polypropylene, CPP), 산 변성 폴리프로필렌(Acid Modified Polypropylene, PPa), 폴리프로필렌-에틸렌 공중합체 및/또는 폴리프로필렌-부틸렌-에틸렌 삼원 공중합체로 구성될 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 상기 실런트층(30)은 폴리프로필렌(PP), 산변성 폴리프로필렌(PPa) 및 무연신 폴리프로필렌(CPP)으로부터 선택되는 1종 이상을 포함하는 것일 수 있으며, 보다 더 구체적으로 가스 배리어층 측부터를 기준으로, 상기 실런트층(30)은 산변성 폴리프로필렌과 폴리프로필렌의 적층 구조, 산변성 폴리프로필렌과 무연신 폴리프로필렌의 적층 구조 또는 무연신 폴리프로필렌 단일층 중 어느 하나로 이루어질 수 있다.
상기 실런트층(30)의 두께는 30㎛ 내지 130㎛, 바람직하게는 40㎛ 내지 120㎛, 더 바람직하게는 60㎛ 내지 100㎛일 수 있다. 실런트층의 두께가 상기 범위를 만족할 경우, 실링부의 실링 강도를 확보하면서도 파우치 필름 적층체의 성형성을 확보할 수 있는 효과가 있다.
한편, 본 발명에 따른 실런트층(30)은 2개 이상의 물질이 각각 층을 이루어 형성된 복합막 구조를 가질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 실런트층(30)은 다층 구조를 가질 수 있다. 복합막 구조를 갖는 실런트층(30)의 각 층 사이에는 접착층 및/또는 스킨층이 배치될 수 있다. 접착층 및/또는 스킨층은 열접착성을 가지고 있어 실런트층(30)의 각 층 간 접착을 돕는 역할을 수행할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 접착층 및/또는 스킨층은 폴리프로필렌계 수지를 포함할 수 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다. 또한, 상기 접착층 및/또는 스킨층은 실런트층(30)과 가스 배리어층(20) 사이에 배치될 수 있다.
상기와 같은 본 발명의 파우치 필름 적층체는, 당해 기술 분야에 알려진 파우치 필름 적층체의 제조 방법을 통해 제조될 수 있다. 예를 들면, 본 발명의 파우치 필름 적층체는, 가스 배리어층(20) 상면에 접착제를 통해 기재층(10)을 부착하고, 상기 가스 배리어층(20)의 하면에 공압출이나 접착층을 통해 실런트층(30)을 형성하는 방법을 통해 제조될 수 있고, 드라이 라미네이션, 샌드위치 라미네이션 등과 같은 방법을 통해 제조될 수 있다. 다만, 파우치 필름 적층체의 제조방법은 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
본 발명에 따른 파우치 필름 적층체의 두께는 120㎛ 내지 300㎛, 구체적으로 130㎛ 내지 280㎛, 더 바람직하게는 140㎛ 내지 250㎛일 수 있다. 파우치 필름 적층체의 두께가 상기 범위를 만족할 때, 파우치 적층체 두께 증가로 인한 전지 수용 공간의 감소, 밀봉 내구성 저하 등을 최소화하면서 성형 깊이를 증가시킬 수 있다.
파우치형 이차 전지
다음으로, 본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차 전지에 대해 설명한다.
도 2는 본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차 전지(200)의 분해 조립도이다.
도 2에 도시된 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차 전지(200)는 전술한 파우치 필름 적층체를 성형하여 제조된 파우치형 전지 케이스(210), 및 상기 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)에 수납된 전극 조립체(260)를 포함할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 본 발명의 파우치형 이차 전지(200)는 파우치형 전지 케이스(210), 전극 조립체(260), 전극 리드(280), 절연부(290) 및 전해질(미도시)을 포함할 수 있다.
이하, 도 2를 참조하여 본 발명의 파우치형 이차 전지의 각 구성을 보다 자세히 설명한다.
(파우치형 전지 케이스)
파우치형 전지 케이스(210)는 상술한 본 발명의 파우치 필름 적층체를 성형하여 제조될 수 있다. 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)는 전극 조립체(260)를 내측에 수납할 수 있다. 파우치 필름 적층체의 세부 구성 및 물성은 상술한 바와 동일하므로, 구체적인 설명은 생략한다.
파우치 필름 적층체는 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)의 제조를 위해 펀치 등에 의해 드로잉(Drawing) 성형 및 연신될 수 있다. 그 결과, 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)은 컵부를 포함할 수 있고, 구체적으로 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)는 컵부(222)와 수용부(224)를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 수용부(224)는 전극 조립체를 수납하는 곳으로써, 컵부(222)가 형성됨에 따라 컵부(222) 내측에 주머니 형태로 형성되는 수용 공간을 의미할 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따르면, 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)는 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이 제1 케이스(220)와 제2 케이스(230)를 포함할 수 있다. 제1케이스(220)는 전극 조립체(260)를 수용할 수 있는 수용부(224)를 포함하고, 제2케이스(230)는 전극 조립체(260)가 전지 케이스(210)의 외부로 이탈되지 않도록 수용부(224)를 상방에서 커버할 수 있다. 제1 케이스(220)와 제2 케이스(230)는 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이 일측이 서로 연결되어 제조될 수 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않고 서로 분리되어 별도로 제조되는 등 다양하게 제조될 수 있다.
본 발명의 다른 실시예에 따르면, 파우치 필름 적층체에 컵부를 성형하는 경우, 하나의 파우치 필름 적층체에 대칭이 되는 두 개의 컵부(222, 232)를 서로 이웃하게 드로잉 성형할 수 있다. 이 경우 제1 케이스(220)와 제2 케이스(230)에는 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이 각각 컵부(222, 232)가 형성될 수 있다. 제1케이스(220)의 컵부(222)에 마련된 수용부(224)에 전극 조립체(260)를 수납한 후, 두 개의 컵부(222, 232)가 서로 마주보도록 두 컵부(222, 232)의 사이에 형성된 브릿지부(240)를 폴딩할 수 있다. 이 경우, 제2 케이스(230)의 컵부(232)가 전극 조립체(260)를 상방에서 수용할 수 있다. 따라서, 두 개의 컵부(222, 232)가 하나의 전극 조립체(260)를 수용하므로, 컵부(222)가 하나일 때보다 두께가 더 두꺼운 전극 조립체(260)가 수용될 수 있다. 또한, 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)가 폴딩됨으로써 이차 전지(200)의 하나의 모서리가 형성되므로, 추후에 실링 공정을 수행할 때 실링할 모서리의 개수가 줄어들 수 있다. 이에 따라, 파우치형 이차 전지(200)의 공정 속도를 향상시킬 수 있고, 실링 공정 수를 감소시킬 수 있다.
파우치형 전지 케이스(210)는 후술할 전극 리드(280)의 일부, 즉 단자부가 노출되도록 전극 조립체(260)를 수용한 상태에서 실링될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 전극 조립체(260)의 전극 탭(270)에 전극 리드(280)가 연결되고, 전극 리드(280)의 일부분에 절연부(290)가 형성되면, 제1 케이스(220)의 컵부(222)에 마련된 수용부(224)에 전극 조립체(260)가 수용되고, 제2 케이스(230)가 수용부(224)를 상부에서 커버할 수 있다. 이어서, 수용부(224)의 내부에 전해질이 주입되고 제1 케이스(220)와 제2 케이스(230)의 테두리에 형성된 실링부(250)가 실링될 수 있다.
실링부(250)는 수용부(224)를 밀봉하는 역할을 수행할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 실링부(250)는 상기 수용부(224)의 테두리를 따라 형성되면서 수용부(224)를 밀봉할 수 있다. 실링부(250)를 실링하는 온도는 180℃ 내지 250℃, 구체적으로 200℃ 내지 250℃, 보다 구체적으로 210℃ 내지 240℃일 수 있다. 실링 온도가 상기 수치 범위를 만족할 경우, 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)가 열 접착에 의해 충분한 실링 강도를 확보할 수 있다.
도 3 및 도 4를 참조하여, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 컵부에 형성될 수 있는 펀치 엣지, 다이 엣지, 펀치 코너 및 두께 엣지에 대하여 자세히 설명한다.
도 3을 참조하면, 본 발명에 따른 파우치 필름 적층체(1)를 드로잉 성형하여 제조된 파우치형 전지 케이스 중, 수납부(302)가 상기 위치에 존재할 때, 컵부(301)에 해당하는 부분과, 이때의 펀치 엣지(401)의 곡률 반경(R1) 및 다이 엣지(402)의 곡률 반경(R2)이 도시되어 있음을 확인할 수 있다.
상기 펀치 엣지(401)는 컵부(301)의 주변을 포위하는 외벽과 바닥부를 각각 연결할 수 있다. 그런데, 펀치 엣지(401)에 라운딩 처리가 되지 않는다면 상기 펀치 엣지(401) 부분이 첨예하게 되므로, 파우치 필름 적층체(1)을 성형할 때 컵부(301)의 펀치 엣지(401)에 응력이 집중되어 쉽게 크랙이 발생하는 문제가 있다.
또한, 다이 엣지(402)는 외벽과 브릿지부, 테라스부, 실링부 등을 각각 연결할 수 있다. 그런데 다이 엣지(402)에도 라운딩 처리가 되지 않는다면 다이 엣지(402)가 첨예하게 되므로, 파우치 필름 적층체(1)를 성형할 때 컵부(301)의 다이 엣지(402)에도 응력이 집중되어 쉽게 크랙이 발생하는 문제가 있었다. 여기서 라운딩된다는 것은, 곡률을 가지도록 곡면을 형성하는 것을 의미하며, 이러한 곡면은 일정한 곡률만을 가질 수도 있으나, 이에 제한되지 않고 일정하지 않은 곡률을 가질 수도 있다. 본 명세서에서 펀치 엣지(401), 다이 엣지(402), 펀치 코너(303) 등이 특정 곡률을 가지고 라운딩되며 형성된다는 것은, 전체적으로 상기 특정 곡률만을 가지는 것뿐만 아니라, 적어도 일부에서만 상기 특정 곡률을 가지는 것도 포함한다는 것을 의미한다.
상기의 문제를 해결하기 위해, 도 3에 도시된 바와 같이, 펀치 엣지(401) 및/또는 다이 엣지(402)는 특정 곡률 반경 범위 내에서 라운딩되어 형성될 수 있다. 따라서, 특정 곡률 반경 범위 내에서 라운딩되어 형성된 펀치 엣지(401) 및/또는 다이 엣지(402)는 이에 집중되는 응력을 어느 정도 분산시킬 수 있다.
상기 컵부는 1mm 이하의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 펀치 엣지를 포함할 수 있고, 구체적으로 상기 컵부는 0.01mm 내지 0.7mm의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 펀치 엣지를 포함할 수 있고, 보다 구체적으로 상기 컵부는 0.01mm 내지 0.5mm의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 펀치 엣지를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 범위를 만족하는 경우, 펀치 엣지에 가해지는 응력을 적절히 분산시킬 수 있으면서도, 우수한 에너지 밀도를 구현할 수 있다는 측면에서 바람직하다.
상기 컵부는 1.5mm 이하의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 다이 엣지를 포함할 수 있고, 바람직하게 상기 컵부는 0.01mm 내지 1.25mm의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 다이 엣지를 포함할 수 있고, 보다 바람직하게 상기 컵부는 0.01mm 내지 1.00mm의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 다이 엣지를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 범위를 만족하는 경우, 다이 엣지에 가해지는 응력을 적절히 분산시킬 수 있으면서도, 우수한 에너지 밀도를 구현할 수 있다는 측면에서 바람직하다.
도 4를 참조하면, 본 발명에 따른 파우치 필름 적층체(1)를 드로잉 성형하여 제조된 파우치형 전지 케이스 중, 컵부(301)에 형성되는 펀치 엣지(401), 펀치 코너(303) 및 두께 엣지(403)가 도시되어 있음을 확인할 수 있다.
펀치 코너(303)는 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이, 세 개의 엣지가 만나서 형성되는 일종의 꼭지점이다. 자세하게는 두 개의 펀치 엣지와 한 개의 두께 엣지가 만나서 형성되는 일종이므로, 파우치 필름 적층체(1)가 연신될 때 펀치 코너(303)에 응력이 더욱 집중되는 문제가 있다. 상기의 문제를 해결하기 위해, 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이, 펀치 코너(303)는 특정 곡률 반경 범위 내에서 라운딩되어 형성될 수 있다. 따라서, 특정 곡률 반경 범위 내에서 라운딩되어 형성된 펀치 코너(303)는 이에 집중되는 응력을 어느 정도 분산시킬 수 있다.
예를 들어, 상기 펀치 코너(303)는 내부에서 곡률 반경이 변화할 수 있다. 즉, 펀치 코너(303)의 중심부의 곡률 반경과 펀치 코너(303)의 주변부의 곡률 반경이 서로 상이할 수 있다. 특히, 펀치 코너(303)의 중심부의 곡률 반경이, 펀치 코너(303)의 주변부의 곡률 반경보다 더 클 수 있다. 예를 들면, 펀치 코너(303)의 주변부의 곡률 반경은, 두 개의 펀치 엣지와 한 개의 두께 엣지에 상대적으로 인접하므로, 두 개의 펀치 엣지 및 두께 엣지 중 적어도 하나의 곡률 반경과 동일할 수 있다. 반면에 펀치 코너(303)의 중심부의 곡률 반경은, 두 개의 펀치 엣지와 한 개의 두께 엣지에 상대적으로 이격되므로, 펀치 엣지 및 두께 엣지 중 적어도 하나의 곡률 반경보다 클 수 있다. 즉, 펀치 코너(303)는 곡률 반경이 상기 펀치 엣지 및 상기 두께 엣지 중 적어도 하나의 곡률 반경 이상일 수 있다.
따라서, 펀치 코너(303)의 곡률 반경은, 펀치 코너(303)의 주변부로부터 펀치 코너(303)의 중심부로 갈수록 점점 커질 수 있다. 그리고 상기 기술한 바와 같이 펀치 코너(303)는 내부에서 곡률 반경이 일정하지 않고 변화할 수 있으므로, 펀치 코너(303)의 중심부는 정확한 구면이 아닌, 비구면 형상을 가질 수 있다.
또한, 펀치 코너(303)는 곡률 반경뿐만 아니라 컵부(301)에서 형성되는 범위도 명확히 설정되어야 한다. 만약 컵부(301)에서 형성되는 펀치 코너(303)의 범위가 과도하게 좁다면, 여전히 파우치 필름 적층체의 연신이 과도하여, 백화 현상 또는 크랙이 발생하는 문제가 있다. 반면에 컵부(301)에서 형성되는 펀치 코너(303)의 범위가 과도하게 넓다면, 오히려 컵부(301)의 외벽과 전극 조립체 사이의 공간이 감소하므로, 이차 전지(1)의 부피 대비 에너지 밀도가 증가할 수 있다.
따라서, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따르면, 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이, 펀치 코너(303)는 펀치 엣지(401)로부터 컵부(301)의 두께 방향(R3)으로 2 mm 내지 3.5 mm, 두께 엣지(403)로부터 컵부(301)의 길이 방향(R4)으로 2 mm 내지 3.5 mm, 두께 엣지(403)로부터 컵부(301)의 폭 방향(R5)으로 2 mm 내지 3.5 mm 내에 형성될 수 있다. 그리고 이러한 펀치 코너(303)가 형성되는 범위는, 컵부(301)의 깊이가 깊을수록 점점 넓어질 수 있다. 컵부(301)의 펀치 코너(303)가 상기와 같이 형성됨으로써, 펀치 코너(303)에 더욱 집중되는 응력이 분산될 수 있어 백화현상 및 크랙이 발생하는 문제를 방지할 수 있다.
상기 두께 엣지(403)는 도 4에서 도시된 바와 같이, 컵부(301)의 두께 방향으로 형성되며, 상기 두께 엣지(403)는 적어도 하나가 라운딩되며 형성될 수 있다. 이러한 두께 엣지(403)는 도 4에 도시된 바와 같이 서로 인접한 두 개의 펀치 엣지와 연결되어 전술한 펀치 코너(303)를 형성할 수 있다.
상기 두께 엣지(403)는 곡률 반경이, 서로 인접한 두 개의 펀치 엣지 중 적어도 하나의 펀치 엣지의 곡률 반경(R1)과 동일할 수도 있으나 상이하게 형성될 수도 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 컵부는 0.5mm 내지 5mm의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 두께 엣지(403)를 포함할 수 있고, 바람직하게 상기 컵부는 0.5mm 내지 2mm의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 두께 엣지(403)을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 범위를 만족하는 경우, 두께 엣지에 부하되는 응력을 적절히 분산시킬 수 있어 백화 현상 및/또는 크랙 발생을 억제할 수 있다.
한편, 전술한 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량 범위는, 전술한 펀치 엣지, 다이 엣지, 두께 엣지 및/또는 펀치 코너를 포함하는 파우치형 전지 케이스 제조 시 우수한 공정성 및 성형성을 구현하기에 적합할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 전술한 펀치 엣지, 다이 엣지, 두께 엣지 및/또는 펀치 코너가 가지는 곡률 반경 또는 길이를 만족하는 경우, 파우치 필름 적층체를 드로잉 성형할 때 파단이 쉽게 발생할 수 있을 만큼의 가혹한 성형 조건을 가질 수 있으므로, 전술한 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량 범위를 만족하는 것이 우수한 공정성 및 성형성을 구현하기에 적합할 수 있다.
(전극 조립체)
전극 조립체(Electrode Assembly)(260)는 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)에 삽입되고 전해질 주입 후 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)에 의해 실링될 수 있다.
전극 조립체(260)는 양극, 분리막, 음극이 순차 적층되어 형성될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 전극 조립체(260)는 양극 및 음극 두 종류의 전극과, 상기 전극들을 상호 절연시키기 위해 전극들 사이에 개재되는 분리막을 포함할 수 있다.
양극과 음극은 각각 알루미늄과 구리를 포함하는 금속 포일 또는 금속 메쉬 형태의 전극 집전체에 활물질 슬러리가 도포된 구조일 수 있다. 슬러리는 통상적으로 입상의 활물질, 보조 도체, 바인더 및 도전재 등이 용매가 첨가된 상태에서 교반되어 형성될 수 있다. 용매는 후속 공정에서 제거될 수 있다.
전극 활물질과 바인더 및/또는 도전재를 혼합한 슬러리를 양극 집전체 및 음극 집전체에 도포하여 양극과 음극을 제조하고, 이를 분리막(Separator)의 양 측에 적층함으로써, 전극 조립체(260)를 소정의 형상으로 제조할 수 있다. 전극 조립체(260)의 유형으로는 스택형, 젤리롤형, 스택 앤 폴딩형 등이 있을 수 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
전극 조립체(260)는 전극 탭(Electrode Tab)(270)을 포함할 수 있다.
전극 탭(270)은 전극 조립체(260)의 양극 및 음극과 각각 연결되고, 전극 조립체(260)로부터 외부로 돌출되어, 전극 조립체(260)의 내부와 외부 사이에 전자가 이동할 수 있는 경로가 될 수 있다. 전극 조립체(260)에 포함된 전극 집전체는 전극 활물질이 도포된 부분과 전극 활물질이 도포되지 않은 말단 부분, 즉 무지부로 구성될 수 있다. 전극 탭(270)은 무지부를 재단하여 형성되거나 무지부에 별도의 도전부재를 초음파 용접 등으로 연결하여 형성될 수 있다. 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이, 전극 탭(270)은 전극 조립체(260)의 각각 다른 방향으로 돌출될 수도 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않고 일측으로부터 동일한 방향으로 나란히 돌출되는 등 다양한 방향을 향해 돌출 형성될 수 있다.
(전극 리드)
전극 리드(280)는 이차 전지(200)의 외부로 전기를 공급할 수 있다. 전극 리드(280)는 전극 조립체(260)의 전극 탭(270)에 스팟(Spot) 용접 등으로 연결될 수 있다.
전극 리드(280)는 상기 전극 조립체(260)와 연결되고 상기 실링부(250)를 경유하여 상기 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)의 외부로 돌출될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 전극 리드(280)의 일단은 전극 조립체(260), 그 중에서도 전극 탭(270)과 연결되고, 전극 리드(280)의 타단은 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)의 외부로 돌출될 수 있다.
전극 리드(280)는 양극 탭(272)에 일단이 연결되고 양극 탭(272)이 돌출된 방향으로 연장되는 양극 리드(282)와, 음극 탭(274)에 일단이 연결되고 음극 탭(274)이 돌출된 방향으로 연장되는 음극 리드(284)를 포함할 수 있다. 양극 리드(282) 및 음극 리드(284)는 모두 타단이 전지 케이스(210)의 외부로 돌출될 수 있다. 따라서, 전극 조립체(260)의 내부에서 생성된 전기를 외부로 공급할 수 있다. 또한, 양극 탭(272) 및 음극 탭(274)이 각각 다양한 방향으로 돌출 형성되므로, 양극 리드(282) 및 음극 리드(284)도 각각 다양한 방향으로 연장될 수 있다. 양극 리드(282) 및 음극 리드(284)는 서로 그 재질이 다를 수 있다. 즉, 양극 리드(282)는 양극 집전체와 동일한 알루미늄(Al) 재질이며, 음극 리드(284)는 음극 집전체와 동일한 구리(Cu) 재질 또는 니켈(Ni)이 코팅된 구리 재질일 수 있다. 전지 케이스(210)의 외부로 돌출된 전극 리드(280)의 일부분은 단자부가 되어 외부 단자와 전기적으로 연결될 수 있다.
(절연부)
절연부(290)는 전극 조립체(260)로부터 생성되는 전기가 전극 리드(280)를 통해 전지 케이스(210)로 흐르는 것을 방지하며, 전지 케이스(210)의 실링을 유지할 수 있다. 이를 위해 절연부(290)는 전기가 잘 통하지 않는 비전도성을 가진 부도체로 형성될 수 있다. 일반적으로 절연부(290)는 전극 리드(280)에 부착되기 용이하고 두께가 비교적 얇은 절연 테이프 또는 필름이 많이 사용되나 이에 한정되지 않으며, 전극 리드(280)를 절연할 수 있는 임의의 부재가 사용될 수 있다.
절연부(290)는 전극 리드(280)의 외주면을 감싸도록 배치될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 전극 리드(280)의 적어도 일부가 절연부(290)에 의해 둘러싸일 수 있다. 이 경우, 절연부(290)는 상기 전극 리드(280)와 상기 파우치형 전지 케이스(210) 사이에 배치될 수 있다. 절연부(290)는 파우치형 전지 케이스(210)의 제1 케이스(220)와 제2 케이스(230)가 열 융착되는 실링부(250)에 한정되어 위치할 수 있으며, 전극 리드(280)를 전지 케이스(210)에 접착시킬 수 있다.
(전해질)
본 발명에 따른 파우치형 이차 전지(200)는 파우치형 전지 케이스(210) 내부에 주액되는 전해질(미도시)을 더 포함할 수 있다. 전해질은 이차 전지(200)의 충/방전 시 전극의 전기 화학적 반응에 의해 생성되는 리튬 이온을 이동시키기 위한 것으로, 리튬염과 유기 용매류의 혼합물인 비수질계 유기 전해액 또는 고분자 전해질을 이용한 폴리머를 포함할 수 있다. 나아가, 전해질은 황화물계, 산화물계 또는 폴리머계의 고체 전해질을 포함할 수 있고, 이러한 고체 전해질은 외력에 의해 쉽게 변형되는 유연성을 가질 수 있다.
이하, 구체적인 실시예를 통해 본 발명을 보다 자세히 설명한다. 다만, 하기 실시예는 본 발명의 이해를 돕기 위한 예시일 뿐, 본 발명의 범위를 한정하는 것은 아니다. 본 기재의 범주 및 기술사상 범위 내에서 다양한 변경 및 수정이 가능함은 당업자에게 있어서 명백한 것이며, 이러한 변형 및 수정이 첨부된 특허청구범위에 속하는 것은 당연한 것이다.
실시예 및 비교예
실시예 1: 파우치 필름 적층체의 제조
총 두께 80㎛의 순차 적층된 산변성 폴리프로필렌(PPa)과 폴리프로필렌(PP)을, 폴리프로필렌(PP)의 표면에 활제량(활제: 에루카마이드(Erucamide))이 하기 표 1에 기재된 것과 같은 양이 되도록 하여 실런트층을 준비하였다.
그 후, 두께 60㎛의 알루미늄 합금 박막의 일면에 제2 접착 필름, 두께 25㎛의 나일론 필름, 제1 접착 필름, 두께 12㎛의 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트(PET) 필름을 순차 적층하였으며, 상기 알루미늄 합금 박막의 타면에 상기 제조된 실런트층을 순차 적층하였다. 그 결과, 상기 제조된 실런트층(폴리프로필렌/산변성 폴리프로필렌) / 알루미늄 합금 박막 / 제2 접착 필름/ 나일론 필름/ 제1접착 필름 / 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트 필름이 순차 적층된 구조의 파우치 필름 적층체를 제조하였다.
실시예 2~5 및 비교예 1~4: 파우치 필름 적층체의 제조
실런트층에 투입되는 활제량을 다르게 하여, 실런트층 표면 활제량을 하기 표 1과 같이 변경한 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 파우치 필름 적층체를 제조하였다.
실험예 1: 표면 활제량 측정
(방법 A)
실시예 1~5, 및 비교예 1~4에 따라 제조된 각각의 파우치 필름 적층체의 표면 활제량을 측정하였다.
자세하게는, 각각의 파우치 필름 적층체를 MD 방향 100mm ⅹ TD 방향 100mm으로 재단하고, 상기 파우치 필름 적층체의 실런트층 표면에 클로로포름(Chloroform)을 5ml 적하한 뒤, 1분 동안 방치시켜 활제 추출 용액을 제조한 후, 상기 활제 추출 용액에 포함되는 활제량을 가스 크로마토그래피(GC)로 측정하였다. 이때, 가스 크로마토그래피(GC)의 측정기기는 Shimadzu 社의 GC-2010 plus였다.
측정 결과는 하기 [표 1]에 나타내었다.
(방법 B)
실시예 1~5, 및 비교예 1~4에 따라 제조된 각각의 파우치 필름 적층체의 표면 활제량을 측정하였다.
자세하게는, 각각의 파우치 필름 적층체를 40℃로 10일간 에이징 한 뒤, 각각의 파우치 필름 적층체를 100mm(MD 방향)ⅹ100mm(TD 방향)의 크기를 갖도록 2장 재단하고, 상기 2장의 파우치 필름 적층체를 실런트층끼리 접한 뒤 200℃로 실링하여 주머니체를 제작하였다. 이 주머니체의 내부 공간 내에 실린지를 사용하여 아세톤 1ml를 주입하고, 실런트층의 표면과 아세톤이 접촉한 상태에서 3분간 방치한 후, 주머니체 내의 아세톤을 빼내었다. 상기 빼낸 아세톤중에 포함되는 활제량을 가스 크로마토그래피(GC)를 사용하여 측정하였다.
측정 결과는 하기 [표 1]에 나타내었다.
실험예 2: 마찰 계수 측정
실시예 1~5, 및 비교예 1~4에 따라 제조된 각각의 파우치 필름 적층체의 마찰 계수를 각각 측정하였다.
마찰 계수를 측정하는 방법으로, 130mm(MD 방향)ⅹ65mm(TD 방향)의 크기를 갖고, 200g의 무게를 갖는 슬레드 금속(sled metal)을 300mm(MD 방향)ⅹ200mm(TD 방향)의 크기를 갖는 파우치 필름 적층체의 실런트층과 맞닿게 하여 측정하였다.
자세하게는, 100mm/min의 속도로 상기 슬레드 금속(sled metal)을 상기 실런트층 위로 100mm 이동하였으며, 20mm~80mm 구간에서 5회 측정된 운동 마찰 계수를 평균값으로 하여 마찰 계수를 측정하였다.
측정 결과는 하기 [표 1]에 나타내었다.
실험예 3: 파우치 필름 적층체 성형성 평가
(성형 깊이 평가)
실시예 1~5 및 비교예 1~4에 따라 제조된 각각의 파우치 필름 적층체의 성형성을 평가하였다.
파우치 필름 적층체의 성형성을 평가하는 방법으로, 상기 파우치 필름 적층체를 각각 300mm(MD 방향)ⅹ400mm(TD 방향)의 동일한 크기로 재단한 후, 61mm(MD 방향)ⅹ159mm(TD 방향) 크기의 성형부를 2개 가지는 전지 케이스 성형 장치에서 성형 깊이를 변화시키며 크랙이 발생하지 않는 최대 성형 깊이를 기록하였다. 여기서 전지 케이스 성형 장치의 펀치와 성형부는, 코너와 모서리에 필렛팅(Filleting, 모깎기)되었으며, 펀치의 코너는 2mm, 모서리는 0.5mm의 곡률을 가지고, 성형부의 코너는 2.5mm, 모서리는 1mm의 곡률을 가졌다. 그리고, 펀치와 성형부의 클리어런스(Clearance)는 0.5mm였다.
이때, 성형 파우치 필름 적층체 컵부에서, 펀치 엣지의 곡률 반경(R1)은 0.5mm였고, 다이 엣지의 곡률 반경(R2)는 1.0mm였고, 펀치 코너의 두께 방향 길이(R3), 컵부의 길이 방향 길이(R4), 폭 방향의 길이(R5)는 모두 3.5mm였고, 두께 엣지의 곡률 반경은 2.0mm였다.
측정한 성형 깊이는 하기 [표 1]에 기재하였다.
(주름 발생 여부 평가)
한편, 상기 성형 깊이 평가 중 오염되지 않은 성형 장치로 파우치 필름 성형 시, 최대 성형 깊이에서 파우치 필름 적층체 컵부에 주름이 발생하였다면 O로, 주름이 발생하지 않았다면 X로 평가하였다.
주름 발생 여부는 하기 [표 1]에 기재하였다.
실험예 4: 파우치 필름 적층체 성형시 활제 청소 주기 측정
실시예 1~5 및 비교예 1~4에 따라 제조된 각각의 파우치 필름 적층체를 성형할 때, 활제 청소 주기를 측정하였다.
자세하게는, 최대 성형 깊이의 컵부가 형성된 파우치 필름 적층체를 연속 생산할 때, 주름이 발생하지 않는 최대 타수를 기준으로 활제 청소 주기를 측정하였다.
측정한 결과는 하기 [표 1]에 기재하였다.

상기 [표 1]을 참고하여 보면, 실시예 1~5의 경우, 표면 활제량이 부족한 비교예 1~2보다 성형성이 우수하며, 마찰 계수가 낮은 것을 확인할 수 있다.
또한, 실시예 1~5의 경우, 표면 활제량이 과도한 비교예 3~4보다 활제 청소 주기가 더 길고, 파우치 필름 적층체 성형 시 주름이 발생하지 않은 것을 확인할 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량 측정방법(방법 A)으로 측정하는 경우와 달리 방법 B로 측정하는 경우, 실런트층 내부에 존재하는 활제까지 과도하게 석출되어 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 표면 활제량을 정밀하게 측정하지 못하는 문제점이 있는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 즉, 본 발명에 따라 우수한 공정성 및 성형성을 구현할 수 있는 실런트층 표면에 존재하는 활제량 범위는, 본 발명에 따른 측정방법에 의해 측정된 활제량 범위일 때임을 명확히 확인할 수 있다.

Claims (15)

  1. 순차 적층된 기재층, 가스 배리어층 및 실런트층을 포함하고,
    상기 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량이 5mg/m2 내지 25mg/m2이고,
    상기 활제량은 상기 파우치 필름 적층체를 MD 방향 100mm ⅹ TD 방향 100mm으로 재단하고, 상기 파우치 필름 적층체의 실런트층 표면에 클로로포름(Chloroform)을 5ml 적하한 뒤, 1분 동안 방치시켜 활제 추출 용액을 제조한 후, 상기 활제 추출 용액에 포함되는 활제량을 가스 크로마토그래피로 측정한 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.
  2. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 실런트층의 표면에 존재하는 활제량이 5mg/m2 내지 14mg/m2인 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.
  3. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 활제는 지방산 아마이드(amide)계열의 화합물에서 선택되는 1종 이상을 포함하는 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.
  4. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 기재층은 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트(PET) 및 나일론(nylon) 중 어느 하나 이상을 포함하는 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.

  5. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 기재층의 두께는 5㎛ 내지 70㎛인 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.
  6. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 가스 배리어층은 알루미늄(Al), 구리(Cu), 스테인리스 스틸(stainless steel, SUS), 니켈(Ni), 티타늄(Ti) 및 인바(INVAR)로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1종 이상의 금속을 포함하는 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.
  7. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 가스 배리어층의 두께는 20㎛ 내지 100㎛인 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.
  8. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 실런트층은 폴리프로필렌(PP), 산변성 폴리프로필렌(PPa) 및 무연신 폴리프로필렌(CPP)으로부터 선택되는 1종 이상을 포함하는 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.
  9. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 실런트층의 두께는 30㎛ 내지 130㎛인 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.
  10. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 파우치 필름 적층체의 두께는 120㎛ 내지 300㎛인 것인 파우치 필름 적층체.
  11. 제1항의 파우치 필름 적층체를 드로잉 성형하여 제조된 파우치형 전지 케이스.
  12. 제11항에 있어서,
    상기 파우치형 전지 케이스는 컵부를 포함하고,
    상기 컵부는 1mm 이하의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 펀치 엣지를 포함하는 것인 파우치형 전지 케이스.
  13. 제11항에 있어서,
    상기 파우치형 전지 케이스는 컵부를 포함하고,
    상기 컵부는 1.5mm 이하의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 다이 엣지를 포함하는 것인 파우치형 전지 케이스.
  14. 제11항에 있어서,
    상기 파우치형 전지 케이스는 컵부를 포함하고,
    상기 컵부는 0.5mm 내지 5mm의 곡률 반경으로 라운딩되어 형성되는 복수의 두께 엣지를 포함하는 것인 파우치형 전지 케이스.
  15. 제11항의 파우치형 전지 케이스를 포함하는 파우치형 이차 전지.
