본 발명은 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금 및 브레이징 이음부에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는, 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 또는 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 브레이징시 바람직하게 적용 가능한 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금 및 브레이징 이음부에 관한 것이다.

Description

스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금 및 브레이징 이음부
본 발명은 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금 및 브레이징 이음부에 관한 것으로서, 보다 상세하게는, 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 또는 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 브레이징시 바람직하게 적용 가능한 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금 및 브레이징 이음부에 관한 것이다.
공조기(Air Conditioner)는 냉매의 압축과 팽창을 통해서 온도를 변화시키는 장치로서, 일상생활에서 널리 쓰이고 있는 에어컨, 냉장고 및 세탁기 등의 전자제품에 사용되고 있다. 공조기의 냉매를 흘려보내는 기존의 관의 경우 대부분 Cu 또는 Cu계 합금으로 이루어져 있는데, 이는, 상기 Cu 또는 Cu계 합금이 내부식성과 브레이징성이 우수하기 때문이다. 또한, Cu 파이프를 브레이징하는 경우 일반적으로 비교적 저가인 CuP 계열(Cu 주성분에 P 및 0~15% 수준의 Ag를 포함)의 합금(삽입금속)을 활용하는데, 이는, Flux를 사용하지 않고도 브레이징을 가능하게 한다.
상기 Cu 또는 Cu계 합금(이하, 'Cu 금속'라고도 함)의 경우 원소재 가격이 비싸고 가격변동이 심하기 때문에, 내식성 및 강도를 보증할 수 있고 상대적으로 저가인 스테인리스강(이하 'STS'라고도 함)으로의 대체가 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 하지만, 부식 특성은 Cu 금속과 STS가 거의 유사하지만, STS의 경우 표면에 Cr계 산화물이 얇게 생성됨에 따라 브레이징시 용융되는 삽입금속이 STS 표면에 젖지(wetting) 않기 때문에 브레이징이 어렵다는 단점을 갖고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위하여, Ag 계열(Ag 주성분(약 30~70%)에 Cu 및 기타 합금을 포함)의 삽입금속을 사용하는 방안이 제안되었으나, Ag의 경우 Cu 및 기타원소에 비해 약 100배 이상 고가이므로 브레이징 비용이 상승하기 때문에 전술한 STS 대체에 따른 원가 절감효과를 상실하게 되어 실 적용에 한계를 갖고 있다.
상기 언급한 바와 같이, 고가의 Cu 금속을 저가의 STS로 변경하기 위해서는 저가의 브레이징 삽입금속의 개발이 필수 사항이라 할 수 있으며, 브레이징시(토치, 고주파, 진공 등) STS 표면에 용융되는 삽입금속이 잘 젖으면서 브레이징부의 신뢰성을 확보할 수 있는 소재의 개발이 필요하다.

본 발명의 일측면은 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금 및 브레이징 이음부를 제공하고자 하는 것이다.
본 발명의 다른 측면은 신선가공성이 양호하고, 저가이면서도 우수한 브레이징성을 갖는 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금 및 이를 이용한 브레이징 이음부를 제공하고자 하는 것이다.
본 발명의 일 실시형태는 중량%로, Zn: 36~42%, Ag: 3~6%, P: 0.2% 이하(0% 포함), Al: 0.01~0.3%, 잔부 Cu 및 기타 불가피한 불순물을 포함하는 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금을 제공한다.
상기 합금은 Ni: 0.01~0.3% 및 Mn: 0.01~0.3%를 추가로 포함할 수 있다.
상기 브레이징용 합금은 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 또는 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 브레이징시 이용될 수 있다.

이하, 본 발명의 일 실시형태에 따른 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금에 대하여 설명한다. 본 발명의 브레이징용 합금은 황동 합금(Cu+Zn)을 기본 성분계로 하며, Ag를 포함한다. 또한, 일 실시형태에 따른 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금은 P, Al, Ni, Mn을 더 포함할 수 있다.
상용 황동 삽입금속의 경우, STS의 브레이징시 일부 적용하고 있으나, 융점이 높고 젖음성이 부족하여, 브레이징 시간이 과다하게 소요되어 브레이징성 및 브레이징부 내식성이 열위한 단점을 가지고 있다. 반면, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금은 STS 표면 젖음성이 우수한 Ag를 포함함으로써, 기존 황동 삽입금속 대비 융점이 낮고 젖음성이 향상될 수 있다. 또한, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금은 Al을 포함함으로써 부족한 젖음성 보충시킬 수 있다. 한편, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금은 기타 작업성, 접합강도 및 내식성 향상을 위해 Ni 및 Mn을 더 추가할 수 있다.
한편, 상용 Cu계 브레이징 삽입금속의 경우, 융점저하 및 젖음성향상을 위해 P를 5%이상 포함하나, STS용 브레이징 삽입금속의 경우는 P 함량을 극도로 제한할 필요가 있다. 이는, STS에는 Fe가 포함되어 있기 때문에 P 성분이 함유된 브레이징 삽입금속을 이용하여 STS를 브레이징하는 경우, 상기 P 성분은 접합계면에 취약한 Fe2P 혹은 Fe3P라는 금속간 화합물층(Intermetallic Layer)을 생성함에 따라 브레이징부 가공성 시험시 계면에서 파괴가 발생하여 브레이징부의 건전성을 보증할 수가 없다.
이하, 본 발명의 일 실시형태에 따른 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금에 대하여 구체적으로 설명한다. 하기 설명되는 합금조성의 함량은 특별한 언급이 없는 한 중량%를 의미한다.
Zn: 36~42%
Zn은 Cu와 합금화되어 융점을 낮추는 역할을 함과 동시에 STS의 Cr 산화물을 환원시키고 Fe와의 결합력을 향상시키는 역할을 한다. 상기 효과를 충분히 얻기 위해서는 상기 Zn의 함량이 36% 이상인 것이 바람직하다. 반면, 상기 Zn의 함량이 42%를 초과하는 경우에는 베타상의 증가로 인해 신선가공성이 나빠지며, 브레이징시 아연흄 발생량이 많아져서 브레이징부 품질을 저하시킬 수 있다. 상기 Zn 함량의 하한은 37%인 것이 보다 바람직하고, 38%인 것이 보다 더 바람직하다. 상기 Zn 함량의 상한은 41%인 것이 보다 바람직하고, 40%인 것이 보다 더 바람직하다.
Ag: 3~6%
Ag는 Cu와 합금화되어 융점을 낮춤과 동시에 STS의 표면 산화물과 젖음성도 향상시키는 역할을 한다. 상기 효과를 충분히 얻기 위해서는 상기 Ag의 함량이 3% 이상인 것이 바람직하다. 반면, 상기 Ag는 가격이 매우 높으므로 그 함량이 6%를 초과하는 경우에는 경제적인 측면에서 불리하다. 상기 Ag 함량의 하한은 4%인 것이 보다 바람직하다. 상기 Ag 함량의 상한은 5%인 것이 보다 바람직하다.
P: 0.2% 이하(0% 포함)
P는 일반적으로 Cu계 삽입금속 내에서 가장 강력하게 융점을 낮추는 원소로서 브레이징 온도를 현저히 낮추는 효과를 나타낸다. 그러나, 상기 P는 STS의 브레이징시 매우 적은 양으로 첨가되더라도 STS 내 Fe와 반응하여 Fe2P 및 Fe3P와 같은 매우 취약한 금속간 화합물을 형성함에 따라 접합부 가공성을 보증할 수 없다. 따라서, 본 발명에서는 상기 P의 함량을 가능한 낮추는 것이 유리하며, 0.2% 이하의 수준으로 제어한다.
Al: 0.01~0.3%
Al은 Cu와 합금화되어 융점을 낮춤과 동시에, STS 표면의 Cr 산화물을 환원시키는 역할을 하여 용융 삽입금속의 젖음성을 향상시키는 역할을 한다. 상기 효과를 충분히 얻기 위하여, 상기 Al의 함량은 0.01% 이상인 것이 바람직하다. 다만, 상기 Al의 함량이 0.3%를 초과하는 경우에는 신선가공성이 열위하여 와이어(wire) 제조가 곤란하다는 단점이 있다. 한편, Al이 STS의 표면에 젖는지를 확인하기 위해서는, 아래 [식 1]과 같이 700℃에서의 깁스프리에너지(Gibbs Free Energy)를 계산해보면 된다.
[식 1] 4/3Al + O2 = 2/3Al2O3 : △G@700℃ ≒ - 920kJ/mol
상기 식 1을 통해 알 수 있는 바와 같이, Al 산화물의 생성 깁스프리에너지는 Cr 산화물의 생성 깁스프리에너지에 비해서 대략 1.6배 낮게 나타난다. 즉, STS의 표면에 형성된 Cr 산화물인 Cr2O3을 환원시키고, Al 산화물인 Al2O3이 생성되면 표면에서 젖는 현상이 발생한다.
나머지 성분은 Cu이다. 다만, 통상의 제조과정에서는 원료 또는 주위 환경으로부터 의도되지 않는 불순물들이 불가피하게 혼입될 수 있으므로, 이를 배제할 수는 없다. 이들 불순물들은 통상의 제조과정의 기술자라면 누구라도 알 수 있는 것이기 때문에 그 모든 내용을 특별히 본 명세서에서 언급하지는 않는다.
한편, 본 발명의 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금은 Ni: 0.01~0.3% 및 Mn: 0.01~0.3%를 추가로 포함할 수 있다.
Ni: 0.01~0.3%
Ni은 Cu-Zn-Ag계 합금에 미량 첨가하는 경우 신선가공성, 접합강도 및 내식성을 향상시키는 역할을 한다. 상기 효과를 위하여, 상기 Ni의 함량은 0.01% 이상인 것이 바람직하다. 다만, 상기 Ni의 함량이 0.3%를 초과하는 경우에는 오히려 신선가공성이 열위하여 와이어(wire) 제조가 곤란하다는 단점이 있다.
Mn: 0.01~0.3%
Mn은 Cu-Zn-Ag계 합금에 미량 첨가하는 경우 신선가공성, 접합강도 및 내식성을 향상시키는 역할을 한다. 상기 효과를 위하여, 상기 Ni의 함량은 0.01% 이상인 것이 바람직하다. 다만, 상기 Ni의 함량이 0.3%를 초과하는 경우에는 오히려 신선가공성이 열위하여 와이어(wire) 제조가 곤란하다는 단점이 있다.
전술한 바와 같이 제공되는 본 발명의 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금은 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 또는 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 브레이징시 바람직하게 이용될 수 있다. 또한, 본 발명의 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금은 신선가공성이 양호하고, 저가이면서도 브레이징성이 우수한 효과를 갖는다.
한편, 본 발명의 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금은 다양한 방법으로 제조될 수 있으며, 본 발명에서는 그 제조방법에 대해서 특별히 한정하지 않는다. 다만, 일례로서, 주조(casting)를 이용하여 제조될 수 있다. 이와 같이 얻어지는 본 발명의 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금은 이후 다양한 형태로 제작되어 사용될 수 있으며, 본 발명에서는 그 형태에 대해서 특별히 한정하지 않는다. 다만, 일례로서, 다수의 신선, 소둔, 스킨패스 및 산세 공정을 거쳐 적정 수준의 직경을 갖는 와이어의 형태로 제작되어 사용될 수 있다. 또 다른 일례로서, 상기 와이어를 링(ring) 형태로 제작하여 사용될 수도 있다.
본 발명의 다른 실시형태는 전술한 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금을 이용한 브레이징 이음부를 제공한다. 보다 구체적으로는, 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 또는 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 브레이징된 브레이징 이음부로서, 중량%로, Zn: 36~42%, Ag: 3~6%, P: 0.2% 이하(0% 포함), Al: 0.01~0.3%, 잔부 Cu 및 기타 불가피한 불순물을 포함하며, 브레이징부의 길이가 5mm 이상이며, 상기 스테인리스강과 상기 브레이징부 간 또는 상기 구리와 상기 브레이징부 간의 젖음각도(wetting angel)가 120° 이상인 브레이징 이음부를 제공한다.
상기 브레이징부의 길이가 5mm 미만이거나, 상기 스테인리스강과 상기 브레이징부 간 또는 상기 구리와 상기 브레이징부 간의 젖음각도가 120° 미만인 경우에는 양호한 브레이징성을 확보하지 못함에 따라 제품 적용에 어려움이 있을 수 있다. 한편, 상기 브레이징부는 스테인리스강의 브레이징시 브레이징용 합금이 용입되어 형성된 영역을 의미한다.
이하, 실시예를 통하여 본 발명을 보다 구체적으로 설명하고자 한다. 다만, 하기의 실시예는 본 발명을 예시하여 보다 상세하게 설명하기 위한 것일 뿐, 본 발명의 권리범위를 한정하기 위한 것이 아니라는 점에 유의할 필요가 있다. 본 발명의 권리범위는 특허청구범위에 기재된 사항과 이로부터 합리적으로 유추되는 사항에 의해 결정되는 것이기 때문이다.
(실시예)
주조를 통해 하기 표 1의 합금조성을 갖는 합금을 제조한 뒤, 상기 합금을 9mm의 직경을 갖는 와이어의 형태로 제작하였다. 이후, 신선, 소둔, 스킨패스 및 산세 공정을 행하여 1.2mm의 직경을 갖는 와이어로 제작하였다. 이 때, 신선가공성을 평가한 뒤, 그 결과를 하기 표 1에 나타내었다. 상기 신선가공성은 상기 와이어 제작시 균열 또는 파단이 발생하여 와이어의 제작이 불가능한 경우 '불량', 와이어의 제작이 완료된 경우에는 '양호'로 평가하였다. 이후, 발명예 1, 비교예 1 내지 10, 종래예 1 내지 3에 따른 와이어를 링의 형태로 제작한 후, 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간의 토치 브레이징과 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 토치 브레이징에 적용하였으며, 브레이징성을 평가한 뒤, 그 결과를 하기 표 1에 나타내었다. 상기 브레이징성은 두 가지 측면으로 평가하였으며, 하나는 브레이징된 접합부의 단면 조직을 관찰하여 젖음성이 양호한지 평가하였고, 다른 하나는 가공성이 양호한지 평가하였다. 상기 젖음성 평가는 브레이징부의 길이가 5mm 이상이며, 스테인리스강과 브레이징부 간 또는 구리와 브레이징부 간의 wetting angel이 120° 이상인 경우에는 '양호', 상기 브레이징부의 길이가 5mm 미만이거나, 상기 wetting angel이 120° 미만인 경우에는 '불량'으로 평가하였다. 상기 가공성 평가는 비틀림 전단 시험을 통해 이루어졌으며, 상기 비틀림 전단 시험은 브레이징부를 십자가 형상으로 절단 및 90도로 굽힌 뒤, Cutting Plier로 잡고 비틀었을 때 파단 위치를 확인하는 것으로 진행하였다. 모재에서 파단이 일어나는 경우에는 '양호', 모재 및 접합계면에서 파단이 혼재하여 일어나거나 접합계면에서 파단이 일어나는 경우에는 '불량'으로 평가하였다. 한편, 종래예 1은 상용 제품인 Cu-Zn 합금이고, 종래예 2는 상용 제품인 CuP-5 합금이며, 종래예 3은 상용 제품인 Ag-20 합금이다. 아울러, 비교예 1, 2, 3, 6, 8의 경우에는 와이어 제작이 불가능하였기 때문에 브레이징성에 대한 평가 또한 불가능하였다.

상기 표 1을 통해 알 수 있듯이, 본 발명이 제안하는 합금조성을 만족하는 발명예 1의 경우에는 브레이징성 및 신선가공성이 모두 양호한 것을 확인할 수 있다. 반면, 본 발명의 합금조성을 만족하지 않는 비교예 1 내지 10과 종래예 1 및 2의 경우에는 브레이징성 또는 신선가공성이 불량한 것을 확인할 수 있다. 한편, 종래예 3의 경우에는 브레이징성 및 신선가공성이 모두 양호하나 고가의 원소인 Ag가 다량 첨가됨에 따라 가격 경쟁성이 낮음을 알 수 있다.
도 1은 발명예 1과 종래예 1 및 2를 이용하여 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 토치 브레이징한 후 비틀림 전단 시험한 뒤의 사진이다. 도 1을 통해 알 수 있듯이, 발명예 1의 경우에는 모재에서 파단이 발생하여 브레이징부의 가공성이 양호함을 확인할 수 있다. 반면, 종래예 1의 경우에는 일부는 모재에서 파단이 발생하였으나, 일부는 접합계면에서 파단이 발생하여 브레이징부의 가공성이 불량함을 확인할 수 있다. 종래예 2의 경우에는 접합계면에서 파단이 발생하여 브레이징부의 가공성이 불량함을 확인할 수 있다.
도 2는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 발명예 1의 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 토치 브레이징한 후 브레이징된 접합부의 단면 조직 사진이다. 도 3은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 종래예 1의 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 토치 브레이징한 후 브레이징된 접합부의 단면 조직 사진이다. 도 4는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 종래예 2의 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 토치 브레이징한 후 브레이징된 접합부의 단면 조직 사진이다. 도 2 내지 4를 통해 알 수 있듯이, 발명예 1의 경우에는 시작(Start)부에서 종료(End)부까지 약 10mm 정도 브레이징이 잘 이루어져 젖음성이 양호함을 확인할 수 있다. 아울러, 젖음각도(Wetting Angle)도 120° 이상으로 우수하였으며, 결함부위 및 취약한 금속간 화합물층도 발견되지 않았다. 반면, 종래예 1의 경우에는 시작(Start)부에서 약 4mm 정도만 브레이징이 이루어져 젖음성이 불량함을 확인할 수 있고, 금속간 화합물층은 발견되지 않았으나 수축결함이 존재함을 알 수 있다. 종래예 2의 경우에는 시작(Start)부에서 종료(End)부까지 약 10mm 정도 브레이징이 잘 이루어졌으나, 브레이징부에 Fe2P 또는 Fe3P와 같은 취약한 금속간 화합물층이 생성되었음을 알 수 있고, 이는 비틀림 전단 시험시 계면 파단을 유발한 것으로 판단된다.
도 5는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 발명예 1과 종래예 1을 이용하여 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 토치 브레이징한 후 비틀림 전단 시험한 뒤의 사진이다. 도 5를 통해 알 수 있듯이, 발명예 1의 경우에는 모재에서 파단이 발생하여 브레이징부의 가공성이 양호함을 확인할 수 있다. 반면, 종래예 1의 경우에는 일부는 모재에서 파단이 발생하였으나, 일부는 접합계면에서 파단이 발생하여 브레이징부의 가공성이 불량함을 확인할 수 있다.
도 6은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 발명예 1의 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 토치 브레이징한 후 브레이징된 접합부의 단면 조직 사진이다. 도 7은 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 종래예 1의 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 토치 브레이징한 후 브레이징된 접합부의 단면 조직 사진이다. 도 6 및 7을 통해 알 수 있듯이, 발명예 1의 경우에는 브레이징부에서 취약한 금속간 화합물층이 생성되지 않아 계면 파단이 발생하지 않았음을 확인할 수 있다. 반면, 종래예 1의 경우에는 브레이징이 잘 이루어지지 않았을 뿐만 아니라 브레이징부 내 큰 결함이 발생하였음을 확인할 수 있다.

Claims (5)

  1. 중량%로, Zn: 36~42%, Ag: 3~6%, P: 0.2% 이하(0% 포함), Al: 0.01~0.3%, 잔부 Cu 및 기타 불가피한 불순물을 포함하는 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금.
  2. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 합금은 Ni: 0.01~0.3% 및 Mn: 0.01~0.3%를 추가로 포함하는 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금.
  3. 청구항 1에 있어서,
    상기 브레이징용 합금은 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 또는 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 브레이징시 이용되는 것을 특징으로 하는 스테인리스강의 브레이징용 합금.
  4. 스테인리스강 동종 파이프간 또는 스테인리스강 및 구리 이종 파이프간의 브레이징된 용접이음부로서,
    중량%로, Zn: 36~42%, Ag: 3~6%, P: 0.2% 이하(0% 포함), Al: 0.01~0.3%, 잔부 Cu 및 기타 불가피한 불순물을 포함하며,
    브레이징부의 길이가 5mm 이상이며,
    상기 스테인리스강과 상기 브레이징부 간 또는 상기 구리와 상기 브레이징부 간의 젖음각도가 120° 이상인 용접이음부.
  5. 청구항 4에 있어서,
    상기 용접이음부는 Ni: 0.01~0.3% 및 Mn: 0.01~0.3%를 추가로 포함하는 용접이음부.
