Description

固体電解質層、電気化学セル、電気化学セル装置、モジュールおよびモジュール収容装置
 本開示は、固体電解質層、電気化学セル、電気化学セル装置、モジュールおよびモジュール収容装置に関する。
 近年、次世代エネルギーとして、燃料電池セルを複数備える燃料電池セルスタック装置が種々提案されている。燃料電池セルは、水素含有ガス等の燃料ガスと空気等の酸素含有ガスとを用いて電力を得ることができる電気化学セルの一種である。

 実施形態の一態様に係る固体電解質層は、酸化物を含む複数の電解質粒子と、複数の気孔とを有する。前記複数の電解質粒子は、第1粒子および第2粒子を含む。前記複数の気孔は、第1気孔および第2気孔を含む。前記第1気孔は、前記第1粒子に接する。前記第2気孔は、前記第2粒子の内部にある。
 また、本開示の電気化学セルは、上記に記載の固体電解質層を備える。
 また、本開示の電気化学セル装置は、上記に記載の電気化学セルを備えるセルスタックを有する。
 また、本開示のモジュールは、上記に記載の電気化学セル装置と、電気化学セル装置を収納する収納容器とを備える。

 上述の燃料電池セルスタック装置では、耐久性を向上させる点で改善の余地があった。
 そこで、耐久性を向上することができる固体電解質層、電気化学セル、電気化学セル装置、モジュールおよびモジュール収容装置の提供が期待されている。
 以下、添付図面を参照して、本願の開示する固体電解質層、電気化学セル、電気化学セル装置、モジュールおよびモジュール収容装置の実施形態を詳細に説明する。なお、以下に示す実施形態によりこの開示が限定されるものではない。
 また、図面は模式的なものであり、各要素の寸法の関係、各要素の比率などは、現実と異なる場合があることに留意する必要がある。さらに、図面の相互間においても、互いの寸法の関係、比率などが異なる部分が含まれている場合がある。
[第1の実施形態]
<電気化学セルの構成>
 まず、図1A~図1Cを参照しながら、第1の実施形態に係る電気化学セルについて、固体酸化物形の燃料電池セルの例を用いて説明する。電気化学セル装置は、複数の電気化学セルを有するセルスタックを備えていてもよい。複数の電気化学セルを有する電気化学セル装置を、単にセルスタック装置と称する。
 図1Aは、第1の実施形態に係る電気化学セルの一例を示す横断面図である。図1Bは、第1の実施形態に係る電気化学セルの一例を空気極側からみた側面図である。図1Cは、第1の実施形態に係る電気化学セルの一例をインターコネクタ側からみた側面図である。なお、図1A~図1Cは、電気化学セルの各構成の一部を拡大して示している。以下、電気化学セルを単にセルという場合もある。
 図1A~図1Cに示す例において、セル1は中空平板型で、細長い板状である。図1Bに示すように、セル1の全体を側面から見た形状は、たとえば、長さ方向Lの辺の長さが5cm~50cmであってもよく、この長さ方向Lに直交する幅方向Wの長さが、たとえば1cm~10cmの長方形であってもよい。このセル1の全体の厚み方向Tの厚さは、たとえば1mm~5mmであってもよい。
 図1Aに示すように、セル1は、導電性の支持基板2と、素子部3と、インターコネクタ4とを備えている。支持基板2は、一対の対向する平坦面である第1平坦面n1および第2平坦面n2、ならびにかかる第1平坦面n1および第2平坦面n2を接続する一対の円弧状の側面mを有する柱状である。
 素子部3は、支持基板2の第1平坦面n1上に位置している。かかる素子部3は、第1電極である燃料極5と、固体電解質層6と、中間層7と、第2電極である空気極8とを有している。
 また、図1Bに示すように、空気極8はセル1の下端まで延びていない。セル1の下端部では、固体電解質層6のみが第1平坦面n1の表面に露出している。また、図1Cに示すように、インターコネクタ4がセル1の下端まで延びていてもよい。セル1の下端部では、インターコネクタ4および固体電解質層6が表面に露出している。なお、図1Aに示すように、セル1の一対の円弧状の側面mにおける表面では、固体電解質層6が露出している。インターコネクタ4は、セル1の下端まで延びていなくてもよい。
 以下、セル1を構成する各部材について説明する。
 支持基板2は、ガスが流れるガス流路2aを内部に有している。図1Aに示す支持基板2の例は、6つのガス流路2aを有している。支持基板2は、ガス透過性を有し、ガス流路2aに流れる燃料ガスを燃料極5まで透過させる。支持基板2は導電性を有していてもよい。導電性を有する支持基板2は、素子部3で生じた電気をインターコネクタ4に集電する。
 支持基板2の材料は、たとえば、鉄族金属成分および無機酸化物を含む。鉄族金属成分は、たとえば、Ni(ニッケル)および/またはNiOであってもよい。無機酸化物は、たとえば、特定の希土類元素酸化物であってもよい。希土類元素酸化物は、たとえば、Sc、Y、La、Nd、Sm、Gd、DyおよびYbから選択される1以上の希土類元素を含んでもよい。
 燃料極5の材料には、一般的に公知のものを使用することができる。燃料極5は、多孔質の導電性セラミックス、たとえば酸化カルシウム、酸化マグネシウム、または希土類元素酸化物が固溶しているZrOと、Niおよび/またはNiOとを含むセラミックスなどを用いてもよい。この希土類元素酸化物は、たとえば、Sc、Y、La、Ce、Nd、Sm、Gd、DyおよびYbから選択される複数の希土類元素を含んでもよい。酸化カルシウム、酸化マグネシウム、または希土類元素酸化物が固溶しているZrOを安定化ジルコニアと称する場合もある。安定化ジルコニアは、部分安定化ジルコニアも含んでもよい。
 固体電解質層6は、電解質であり、燃料極5と空気極8との間でイオンの受け渡しを行う。同時に、固体電解質層6は、ガス遮断性を有し、燃料ガスと酸素含有ガスとのリークを生じにくくする。
 固体電解質層6の材料は、たとえば、3モル%~15モル%の希土類元素酸化物が固溶したZrOであってもよい。希土類元素酸化物は、たとえば、Sc、Y、La、Ce、Nd、Sm、Gd、DyおよびYbから選択される1以上の希土類元素を含んでよい。固体電解質層6は、たとえば、Yb、ScまたはGdが固溶したZrOを含んでもよく、Sc、YまたはYbが固溶したBaZrOを含んでもよい。なお、固体電解質層6の詳細については、後述する。
 中間層7は、拡散抑制層としての機能を有する。中間層7は、後述する空気極8に含まれるSr(ストロンチウム)などの元素が固体電解質層6に拡散されにくくすることで、かかる固体電解質層6にSrZrOなどの電気抵抗層を形成させにくくする。
 中間層7の材料は、一般的に空気極8と固体電解質層6との間の元素の拡散を生じにくくするものであれば特に制限はない。中間層7の材料は、たとえば、Ce(セリウム)を除く希土類元素が固溶した酸化セリウム(CeO)を含んでもよい。かかる希土類元素としては、Gd(ガドリニウム)、Sm(サマリウム)などを用いてもよい。
 空気極8は、ガス透過性を有している。空気極8の開気孔率は、たとえば20%以上、特に30%~50%の範囲であってもよい。
 空気極8の材料は、一般的に空気極に用いられるものであれば特に制限はない。空気極8の材料は、たとえば、いわゆるABO型のペロブスカイト型酸化物などの導電性セラミックスであってもよい。
 空気極8の材料は、たとえば、AサイトにSr(ストロンチウム)とLa(ランタン)が共存する複合酸化物であってもよい。このような複合酸化物の例としては、LaSr1-xCoFe1-y、LaSr1-xMnO、LaSr1-xFeO、LaSr1-xCoOなどが挙げられる。なお、xは0<x<1、yは0<y<1である。
 また、インターコネクタ4は、緻密質であり、支持基板2の内部に位置するガス流路2aを流通する燃料ガス、および支持基板2の外側を流通する酸素含有ガスのリークを生じにくくする。インターコネクタ4は、93%以上、特に95%以上の相対密度を有していてもよい。
 インターコネクタ4の材料には、ランタンクロマイト系のペロブスカイト型酸化物(LaCrO系酸化物)、ランタンストロンチウムチタン系のペロブスカイト型酸化物(LaSrTiO系酸化物)などを用いてもよい。これらの材料は、導電性を有し、かつ水素含有ガスなどの燃料ガスおよび空気などの酸素含有ガスと接触しても還元も酸化もされにくい。
<電気化学セル装置の構成>
 次に、上述したセル1を用いた本実施形態に係る電気化学セル装置について、図2A~図2Cを参照しながら説明する。図2Aは、第1の実施形態に係る電気化学セル装置の一例を示す斜視図である。図2Bは、図2Aに示すX-X線の断面図である。図2Cは、第1の実施形態に係る電気化学セル装置の一例を示す上面図である。
 図2Aに示すように、セルスタック装置10は、セル1の厚み方向T(図1A参照)に配列(積層)された複数のセル1を有するセルスタック11と、固定部材12とを備える。
 固定部材12は、固定材13と、支持部材14とを有する。支持部材14は、セル1を支持する。固定材13は、セル1を支持部材14に固定する。また、支持部材14は、支持体15と、ガスタンク16とを有する。支持部材14である支持体15およびガスタンク16は、たとえば金属製である。
 図2Bに示すように、支持体15は、複数のセル1の下端部が挿入される挿入孔15aを有している。複数のセル1の下端部と挿入孔15aの内壁とは、固定材13で接合されている。
 ガスタンク16は、挿入孔15aを通じて複数のセル1に反応ガスを供給する開口部と、かかる開口部の周囲に位置する凹溝16aとを有する。支持体15の外周の端部は、ガスタンク16の凹溝16aに充填された接合材21によって、ガスタンク16と接合されている。
 図2Aに示す例では、支持部材14である支持体15とガスタンク16とで形成される内部空間22(図2B参照)に燃料ガスが貯留される。ガスタンク16にはガス流通管20が接続されている。燃料ガスは、このガス流通管20を通してガスタンク16に供給され、ガスタンク16からセル1の内部のガス流路2a(図1A参照)に供給される。ガスタンク16に供給される燃料ガスは、後述する改質器102(図4参照)で生成される。
 水素リッチな燃料ガスは、原燃料を水蒸気改質などすることによって生成することができる。水蒸気改質により燃料ガスを生成する場合には、燃料ガスは水蒸気を含む。
 図2Aに示す例では、2列のセルスタック11、2つの支持体15およびガスタンク16を備えている。2列のセルスタック11はそれぞれ、複数のセル1を有する。各セルスタック11は、各支持体15に固定されている。ガスタンク16は上面に2つの貫通孔を有している。各貫通孔には、各支持体15が配置されている。内部空間22は、1つのガスタンク16と、2つの支持体15とで形成される。
 挿入孔15aの形状は、たとえば、上面視で長円形状であってもよい。挿入孔15aは、たとえば、セル1の配列方向すなわち厚み方向Tの長さが、セルスタック11の両端に位置する2つの端部集電部材17の間の距離よりも大きくてもよい。挿入孔15aの幅は、たとえば、セル1の幅方向W(図1A参照)の長さよりも大きくてもよい。
 図2Bに示すように、挿入孔15aの内壁とセル1の下端部との接合部には、固定材13が充填され、固化されている。これにより、挿入孔15aの内壁と複数個のセル1の下端部とがそれぞれ接合・固定され、また、セル1の下端部同士が接合・固定されている。各セル1のガス流路2aは、下端部で支持部材14の内部空間22と連通している。
 固定材13および接合材21は、ガラスなどの導電性が低いものを用いることができる。固定材13および接合材21の具体的な材料としては、非晶質ガラスなどを用いてもよく、特に結晶化ガラスなどを用いてもよい。
 結晶化ガラスとしては、たとえば、SiO-CaO系、MgO-B系、La-B-MgO系、La-B-ZnO系、SiO-CaO-ZnO系などの材料のいずれかを用いてもよく、特にSiO-MgO系の材料を用いてもよい。
 また、図2Bに示すように、複数のセル1のうち隣接するセル1の間には、接続部材18が介在している。接続部材18は、隣接する一方のセル1の燃料極5と他方のセル1の空気極8とを電気的に直列に接続する。より具体的には、接続部材18は、隣接する一方のセル1の燃料極5と電気的に接続されたインターコネクタ4と、他方のセル1の空気極8とを接続している。
 また、図2Bに示すように、複数のセル1の配列方向における最も外側に位置するセル1に、端部集電部材17が電気的に接続されている。端部集電部材17は、セルスタック11の外側に突出する導電部19に接続されている。導電部19は、セル1の発電により生じた電気を集電して外部に引き出す。なお、図2Aでは、端部集電部材17の図示を省略している。
 また、図2Cに示すように、セルスタック装置10は、2つのセルスタック11A、11Bが直列に接続された一つの電池であってもよい。かかる場合、セルスタック装置10の導電部19は、正極端子19Aと、負極端子19Bと、接続端子19Cとに区別される。
 正極端子19Aは、セルスタック11が発電した電力を外部に出力する場合の正極であり、セルスタック11Aにおける正極側の端部集電部材17に電気的に接続される。負極端子19Bは、セルスタック11が発電した電力を外部に出力する場合の負極であり、セルスタック11Bにおける負極側の端部集電部材17に電気的に接続される。
 接続端子19Cは、セルスタック11Aにおける負極側の端部集電部材17と、セルスタック11Bにおける正極側の端部集電部材17とを電気的に接続する。
<固体電解質層の詳細>
 つづいて、本実施形態に係る電気化学セルが有する固体電解質層6の詳細について、図3を参照しながら説明する。図3は、図1Aに示す領域R1を拡大した断面図である。
 図3に示すように、固体電解質層6は、厚み方向Tの両端に位置する第1面6aおよび第2面6bを有する。第1面6aは、燃料極5に接している。第2面6bは、中間層7に接している。
 固体電解質層6は、複数の電解質粒子60と、複数の気孔62とを有する。複数の電解質粒子60はそれぞれ、酸化物を含む。複数の電解質粒子60のうち、隣り合う電解質粒子60は、粒界61で区画されている。複数の電解質粒子60は、第1粒子と第2粒子とを含む。
 また、複数の気孔62は、第1気孔62aと、第2気孔62bとを含む。第1気孔62aは、第1粒子である電解質粒子60の外部に位置し、第1粒子に接している。第1気孔62aは、図3に示す断面、すなわち、第1面6aおよび第2面6bに交差する固体電解質層6の断面において、粒界61に位置する気孔62である。言い換えれば、第1気孔62aは、2以上の異なる第1粒子と接している。第1粒子は、2以上の第1気孔62aと接していてもよい。第2気孔62bは、第2粒子である電解質粒子60の内部に位置する気孔62である。第2気孔62bは、1つの第2粒子の内部に含まれている。第2粒子は、2以上の第2気孔62bを含んでいてもよい。第1気孔62aに接する第1粒子は、内部に第2気孔62bを含む第2粒子を兼ねてもよい。また、複数の電解質粒子60は、第1気孔62aと接しておらず、かつ内部に第2気孔62bを含まない粒子である電解質粒子60を有していてもよい。
 固体電解質層6は、第1気孔62aと、第2気孔62bとを含む複数の気孔62を有することにより、たとえば、熱膨張および/または熱収縮に伴うクラック、剥離等が生じにくくなる。これにより、固体電解質層6およびかかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1は、たとえば、複数の気孔62が第1気孔62aおよび第2気孔62bを含まない場合と比較して、耐久性が向上する。
 また、図3に示す断面において、第1気孔62aは、第2気孔62bより単位面積に存在する個数が少なくてもよい。たとえば、単位面積に存在する第1気孔62aの個数は、第2気孔62bの個数の1/2以下であってもよい。これにより、固体電解質層6およびかかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1は、たとえば、第1気孔62aが第2気孔62bより多い場合と比較して隣り合う電解質粒子60が粒界61で剥離しにくくなることから、耐久性が向上する。また、第1気孔62aにより、電解質粒子60間でイオンが伝導しにくくなる懸念があるため、固体電解質層6は、第2気孔62bのみを有し、第1気孔62aを有さなくてもよい。
 また、図3に示す断面において、第1気孔62aの平均直径を第1直径とし、第2気孔62bの平均直径を第2直径としたとき、第1直径は、第2直径より小さくてもよい。ここで、第1気孔62aおよび第2気孔62bの平均直径は、固体電解質層6の断面観察によりそれぞれ得られる円相当径に基づいて算出することができる。これにより、固体電解質層6およびかかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1は、たとえば、第1直径が第2直径より大きい場合と比較して隣り合う電解質粒子60が粒界61で剥離しにくくなることから、耐久性が向上する。
 第1気孔62aの平均直径である第1直径は、たとえば、0.3μm以下、特に0.1μm以上0.3μm以下であってもよい。
 また、第2気孔62bの平均直径である第2直径は、たとえば、1μm以下、特に0.4μm以上0.7μm以下であってもよい。
 また、図3に示す断面において、複数の気孔62は、面積率が2%以下であってもよい。これにより、たとえば、固体電解質層6の内部における厚み方向Tへのイオンの移動が妨げられにくくなり、イオン伝導性が向上する。また、かかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1によれば、たとえば、発電性能が向上する。複数の気孔62は、面積率が0.3%以上であってもよい。これにより、高い耐久性を有する固体電解質層6およびセル1とすることができる。
 ここで、固体電解質層6の平均厚みtは、固体電解質層6の断面写真を用いて算出することができる。また、固体電解質層6が有する複数の気孔62の配置および直径は、第1面6aおよび第2面6bに交差する固体電解質層6の断面を分析することにより、確認および算出することができる。具体的には、SEMにて固体電解質層6の断面写真を、たとえば倍率5000倍で撮影する。撮影した断面写真を画像解析して、第1面6aと第2面6bとの間に200個以上の電解質粒子60を有する領域に位置する第1気孔62aおよび第2気孔62bの直径をそれぞれ算出する。第1気孔62aおよび第2気孔62bの直径は、たとえば画像解析ソフトを用いて第1気孔62aおよび第2気孔62bの面積を計測し、その面積を円相当径に変換したものである。また、固体電解質層6の平均厚みtを一辺とする正方形を単位面積とし、この単位面積に存在する第1気孔62aおよび第2気孔62bの個数をそれぞれ計数してもよい。
<モジュール>
 次に、上述した電気化学セル装置を用いた本開示の実施形態に係るモジュールについて、図4を用いて説明する。図4は、第1の実施形態に係るモジュールの一例を示す外観斜視図である。図4では、収納容器101の一部である前面および後面を取り外し、内部に収納される燃料電池のセルスタック装置10を後方に取り出した状態を示している。
 図4に示すように、モジュール100は、収納容器101、および収納容器内に収納されたセルスタック装置10を備えている。また、セルスタック装置10の上方には、改質器102が配置されている。
 かかる改質器102は、天然ガス、灯油などの原燃料を改質して燃料ガスを生成し、セル1に供給する。原燃料は、原燃料供給管103を通じて改質器102に供給される。なお、改質器102は、水を気化させる気化部102aと、改質部102bとを備えていてもよい。改質部102bは、図示しない改質触媒を備えており、原燃料を燃料ガスに改質する。このような改質器102は、効率の高い改質反応である水蒸気改質を行うことができる。
 そして、改質器102で生成された燃料ガスは、ガス流通管20、ガスタンク16、および支持部材14を通じて、セル1のガス流路2a(図1A参照)に供給される。
 また、上述の構成のモジュール100では、ガスの燃焼およびセル1の発電に伴い、通常発電時におけるモジュール100内の温度が500℃~1000℃程度となる。
 このようなモジュール100においては、上述したように、性能が向上されるセル1を有するセルスタック装置10を収納して構成されることにより、性能が向上されるモジュール100とすることができる。
<モジュール収容装置>
 図5は、第1の実施形態に係るモジュール収容装置の一例を概略的に示す分解斜視図である。本実施形態に係るモジュール収容装置110は、外装ケース111と、図4で示したモジュール100と、図示しない補機と、を備えている。補機は、モジュール100の運転を行う。モジュール100および補機は、外装ケース111内に収容されている。なお、図5においては一部構成を省略して示している。
 図5に示すモジュール収容装置110の外装ケース111は、支柱112と外装板113とを有する。仕切板114は、外装ケース111内を上下に区画している。外装ケース111内の仕切板114より上側の空間は、モジュール100を収容するモジュール収容室115であり、外装ケース111内の仕切板114より下側の空間は、モジュール100を運転する補機を収容する補機収容室116である。なお、図5では、補機収容室116に収容する補機を省略して示している。
 また、仕切板114は、補機収容室116の空気をモジュール収容室115側に流すための空気流通口117を有している。モジュール収容室115を構成する外装板113は、モジュール収容室115内の空気を排気するための排気口118を有している。
 このようなモジュール収容装置110においては、上述したように、性能が向上されるモジュール100をモジュール収容室115に備えていることにより、性能が向上されるモジュール収容装置110とすることができる。
 なお、上述の実施形態では、中空平板型の支持基板を用いた場合を例示したが、円筒型の支持基板を用いたセルスタック装置に適用することもできる。
[第2の実施形態]
 つづいて、第2の実施形態に係る電気化学セルおよび電気化学セル装置について、図6A~図7を参照しながら説明する。
 上述の実施形態では、支持基板の表面に燃料極、固体電解質層および空気極を含む素子部が1つのみ設けられたいわゆる「縦縞型」を例示したが、支持基板の表面の互いに離れた複数個所にて素子部がそれぞれ設けられ、隣り合う素子部の間が電気的に接続されたいわゆる「横縞型」の電気化学セルを配列した横縞型電気化学セル装置に適用することができる。
 図6Aは、第2の実施形態に係る電気化学セル装置の一例を示す断面図である。図6Bは、第2の実施形態に係る電気化学セルを示す横断面図である。図7は、図6Bに示す領域R2の拡大図である。
 図6Aに示すように、セルスタック装置10Aは、燃料ガスを流通させる配管22aから複数のセル1Aが長さ方向Lに延びている。セル1Aは、支持基板2上に複数の素子部3を有している。支持基板2の内部には、配管22aからの燃料ガスが流れるガス流路2aが設けられている。
 また、各セル1Aは、接続部材31を介して互いに電気的に接続されている。接続部材31は、各セル1Aがそれぞれ有する素子部3の間に位置しており、隣り合うセル1Aを接続している。
 また、図6Bに示すように、第2の実施形態に係るセル1Aは、支持基板2と、一対の素子部3と、封止部30とを備えている。支持基板2は、一対の対向する平坦面である第1平坦面n1および第2平坦面n2、およびかかる第1平坦面n1および第2平坦面n2を接続する一対の円弧状の側面mを有する柱状である。
 一対の素子部3は、支持基板2の第1平坦面n1および第2平坦面n2上に、互いに対向するように位置している。また、封止部30は、支持基板2の側面mを覆うように位置している。
 図7に示す断面において、固体電解質層6は、複数の電解質粒子60と、複数の気孔62とを有する。複数の電解質粒子60はそれぞれ、酸化物を含む。複数の電解質粒子60のうち、隣り合う電解質粒子60は、粒界61で区画されている。複数の電解質粒子60は、第1粒子と第2粒子とを含む。
 また、複数の気孔62は、第1粒子に接し粒界61に位置する第1気孔62aと、第2粒子の内部に位置する第2気孔62bとを含む。
 固体電解質層6は、第1気孔62aと、第2気孔62bとを含む複数の気孔62を有することにより、たとえば、熱膨張および/または熱収縮に伴うクラック、剥離等が生じにくくなる。これにより、固体電解質層6およびかかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1Aは、たとえば、複数の気孔62が第1気孔62aおよび第2気孔62bを含まない場合と比較して、耐久性が向上する。
 また、図7に示す断面において、第1気孔62aは、第2気孔62bより単位面積に存在する個数が少なくてもよい。たとえば、単位面積に存在する第1気孔62aの個数は、第2気孔62bの個数の1/2以下であってもよい。これにより、固体電解質層6およびかかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1Aは、たとえば、第1気孔62aが第2気孔62bより多い場合と比較して隣り合う電解質粒子60が粒界61で剥離しにくくなることから、耐久性が向上する。
[第3の実施形態]
 図8は、第3の実施形態に係る電気化学セルの一例を示す斜視図である。図9は、図8に示す電気化学セルの部分断面図である。
 図8、図9に示すように、セル1Bは、燃料極5、固体電解質層6、中間層7および空気極8が積層された素子部3Bと、導電部材91,92とを有している。複数の平板型セルを積層させた電気化学セル装置は、たとえば複数のセル1Bが、互いに隣り合う金属層である導電部材91,92により電気的に接続されている。導電部材91,92は、隣接するセル1B同士を電気的に接続するとともに、燃料極5または空気極8にガスを供給するガス流路を有している。
 図9に示すように、セル1Bは、平板型セルスタックの燃料ガスの流路と酸素含有ガスの流路とを気密に封止する封止材を有している。封止材はセルの固定部材96であり、接合材93およびフレームである支持部材94,95を有する。接合材93は、ガラスであってもよいし、銀ロウなどの金属材料であってもよい。
 支持部材94は、燃料ガスの流路と酸素含有ガスの流路とを区画するいわゆるセパレータであってもよい。支持部材94,95の材料は、例えば導電性の金属であってもよいし、絶縁性のセラミックスであってもよい。支持部材94,95は、両方またはいずれか一方が絶縁性の材料であってもよい。支持部材94が金属であった場合、支持部材94は導電部材92と一体化していてもよい。支持部材95が金属であった場合、支持部材95は導電部材91と一体化していてもよい。
 支持部材94,95のうちいずれか1つは絶縁性であり、平板型セルを挟む2つの導電部材91,92を互いに電気的に絶縁している。
 図10は、図9に示す領域R3を拡大した断面図である。図10に示す断面において、固体電解質層6は、複数の電解質粒子60と、複数の気孔62とを有する。複数の電解質粒子60はそれぞれ、酸化物を含む。複数の電解質粒子60のうち、隣り合う電解質粒子60は、粒界61で区画されている。複数の電解質粒子60は、第1粒子と第2粒子とを含む。
 また、複数の気孔62は、第1粒子に接し粒界61に位置する第1気孔62aと、第2粒子の内部に位置する第2気孔62bとを含む。
 固体電解質層6は、第1気孔62aと、第2気孔62bとを含む複数の気孔62を有することにより、たとえば、熱膨張および/または熱収縮に伴うクラック、剥離等が生じにくくなる。これにより、固体電解質層6およびかかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1Bは、たとえば、複数の気孔62が第1気孔62aおよび第2気孔62bを含まない場合と比較して、耐久性が向上する。
 また、図10に示す断面において、第1気孔62aは、第2気孔62bより単位面積に存在する個数が少なくてもよい。たとえば、単位面積に存在する第1気孔62aの個数は、第2気孔62bの個数の1/2以下であってもよい。これにより、固体電解質層6およびかかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1Bは、たとえば、第1気孔62aが第2気孔62bより多い場合と比較して隣り合う電解質粒子60が粒界61で剥離しにくくなることから、耐久性が向上する。
[第4の実施形態]
 図11Aは、第4の実施形態に係る電気化学セルの一例を示す横断面図である。図11B、図11Cは、第4の実施形態に係る電気化学セルの他の一例を示す横断面図である。図12は、図11Aに示す領域R4の拡大図である。なお、図12は、図11B、図11Cの例にも適用できる。
 図11A~図11Cに示すように、セル1Cは、燃料極5、固体電解質層6、中間層7および空気極8が積層された素子部3Cと、支持基板2とを有している。支持基板2は、素子部3Cと接する部位に貫通孔または細孔を有するとともに、ガス流路2aの外側に位置する部材120を有する。支持基板2は、ガス流路2aと素子部3Cとの間でガスを流通させることができる。支持基板2は、例えば、1または複数の金属板で構成されてもよい。金属板の材料は、クロムを含有していてもよい。金属板は、導電性の被覆層を有していてもよい。支持基板2は、隣接するセル1C同士を電気的に接続する。素子部3Cは、支持基板2上に直接形成されていてもよいし、接合材により支持基板2に接合されていてもよい。
 図11Aに示す例では、燃料極5の側面は固体電解質層6により被覆され、燃料ガスが流れるガス流路2aを気密に封止している。図11Bに示すように、燃料極5の側面は緻密なガラスまたはセラミックの封止材9で被覆され、封止されていてもよい。燃料極5の側面を被覆する封止材9は、電気絶縁性を有していてもよい。
 また、支持基板2のガス流路2aは、図11Cに示すように凹凸を有する部材120により形成されていてもよい。
 図12に示す断面において、固体電解質層6は、複数の電解質粒子60と、複数の気孔62とを有する。複数の電解質粒子60はそれぞれ、酸化物を含む。複数の電解質粒子60のうち、隣り合う電解質粒子60は、粒界61で区画されている。複数の電解質粒子60は、第1粒子と第2粒子とを含む。
 また、複数の気孔62は、第1粒子に接し粒界61に位置する第1気孔62aと、第2粒子の内部に位置する第2気孔62bとを含む。
 固体電解質層6は、第1気孔62aと、第2気孔62bとを含む複数の気孔62を有することにより、たとえば、熱膨張および/または熱収縮に伴うクラック、剥離等が生じにくくなる。これにより、固体電解質層6およびかかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1Cは、たとえば、複数の気孔62が第1気孔62aおよび第2気孔62bを含まない場合と比較して、耐久性が向上する。
 また、図12に示す断面において、第1気孔62aは、第2気孔62bより単位面積に存在する個数が少なくてもよい。たとえば、単位面積に存在する第1気孔62aの個数は、第2気孔62bの個数の1/2以下であってもよい。これにより、固体電解質層6およびかかる固体電解質層6を有するセル1Cは、たとえば、第1気孔62aが第2気孔62bより多い場合と比較して隣り合う電解質粒子60が粒界61で剥離しにくくなることから、耐久性が向上する。
[その他の実施形態]
 つづいて、その他の実施形態に係る電気化学セル装置について説明する。
 上記した実施形態では、「電気化学セル」、「電気化学セル装置」、「モジュール」および「モジュール収容装置」の一例として燃料電池セル、燃料電池セルスタック装置、燃料電池モジュールおよび燃料電池装置を示したが、他の例としてはそれぞれ、電解セル、電解セルスタック装置、電解モジュールおよび電解装置であってもよい。電解セルは、第1電極および第2電極を有し、電力の供給により水蒸気を水素と酸素に分解する、または二酸化炭素を一酸化炭素と酸素に分解する。また、上記した各実施形態では電気化学セルの電解質材料の一例として酸化物イオン伝導体または水素イオン伝導体を示したが、水酸化物イオン伝導体であってもよい。このような電解セル、電解セルスタック装置、電解モジュールおよび電解装置によれば、耐久性を向上することができる。
 以上、本開示について詳細に説明したが、本開示は上述の実施の形態に限定されるものではなく、本開示の要旨を逸脱しない範囲内において、種々の変更、改良等が可能である。
 一実施形態において、(1)固体電解質層は、酸化物を含む複数の電解質粒子と、複数の気孔とを有し、
 前記複数の電解質粒子は、第1粒子および第2粒子を含み、
 前記複数の気孔は、第1気孔および第2気孔を含み、
 前記第1気孔は、前記第1粒子に接し、
 前記第2気孔は、前記第2粒子の内部にある。
 (2)上記(1)の固体電解質層において、前記固体電解質層の断面において、前記第1気孔は、前記第2気孔より単位面積に存在する個数が少なくてもよい。
 (3)上記(2)の固体電解質層において、前記単位面積に存在する前記第1気孔の個数は、前記第2気孔の個数の1/2以下であってもよい。
 (4)上記(1)~(3)のいずれか1つの固体電解質層において、前記固体電解質層の断面において、前記第1気孔の平均直径である第1直径が、前記第2気孔の平均直径である第2直径より小さくてもよい。
 (5)上記(4)の固体電解質層において、前記第2直径が、1μm以下であってもよい。
 (6)上記(4)または(5)の固体電解質層において、前記前記第1直径が、0.3μm以下であってもよい。
 (7)上記(1)~(6)のいずれか1つの固体電解質層において、前記固体電解質層の断面において、前記複数の気孔は、面積率が2%以下であってもよい。
 一実施形態において、(8)電気化学セルは、上記(1)~(7)のいずれか1つの固体電解質層を備える。
 一実施形態において、(9)電気化学セル装置は、上記(8)の電気化学セルを備えるセルスタックを有する。
 一実施形態において、(10)モジュールは、上記(9)の電気化学セル装置と、
 前記電気化学セル装置を収納する収納容器とを備える。
 一実施形態において、(11)モジュール収容装置は、上記(10)のモジュールと、
 前記モジュールの運転を行うための補機と、
 前記モジュールおよび前記補機を収容する外装ケースとを備える。
 今回開示された実施形態は全ての点で例示であって制限的なものではないと考えられるべきである。実に、上記した実施形態は多様な形態で具現され得る。また、上記の実施形態は、添付の請求の範囲およびその趣旨を逸脱することなく、様々な形態で省略、置換、変更されてもよい。

Claims (11)

  1.  酸化物を含む複数の電解質粒子と、複数の気孔とを有し、
     前記複数の電解質粒子は、第1粒子および第2粒子を含み、
     前記複数の気孔は、第1気孔および第2気孔を含み、
     前記第1気孔は、前記第1粒子に接し、
     前記第2気孔は、前記第2粒子の内部にある
     固体電解質層。
  2.  前記固体電解質層の断面において、前記第1気孔は、前記第2気孔より単位面積に存在する個数が少ない
     請求項1に記載の固体電解質層。
  3.  前記単位面積に存在する前記第1気孔の個数は、前記第2気孔の個数の1/2以下である
     請求項2に記載の固体電解質層。
  4.  前記固体電解質層の断面において、前記第1気孔の平均直径である第1直径が、前記第2気孔の平均直径である第2直径より小さい
     請求項1~3のいずれか1つに記載の固体電解質層。
  5.  前記第2直径が、1μm以下である
     請求項4に記載の固体電解質層。
  6.  前記第1直径が、0.3μm以下である
     請求項4または5に記載の固体電解質層。
  7.  前記固体電解質層の断面において、前記複数の気孔は、面積率が2%以下である
     請求項1~6のいずれか1つに記載の固体電解質層。
  8.  請求項1~7のいずれか1つに記載の固体電解質層を備える電気化学セル。
  9.  請求項8に記載の電気化学セルを備えるセルスタックを有する
     電気化学セル装置。
  10.  請求項9に記載の電気化学セル装置と、
     前記電気化学セル装置を収納する収納容器と
     を備えるモジュール。
  11.  請求項10に記載のモジュールと、
     前記モジュールの運転を行うための補機と、
     前記モジュールおよび前記補機を収容する外装ケースと
     を備えるモジュール収容装置。
