Definitions
- composition for the production of cosmetic products Composition for the production of cosmetic products
- the present invention refers to a composition for the production of cosmetic products that result in a product with 100% active ingredients. More specifically, the object of the present invention is to provide a cosmetically viable composition, with at least one aqueous phase, whose ingredients are entirely active substances.
- a dermocosmetic product is made up of what are called active substances, vehicles and excipients.
- the basic structure of a cosmetic formulation is:
- -Vehicle the phase in which the active substance and its excipients dissolve. It can be watery or oily.
- Excipients are raw materials such as preservatives, antimicrobials, antioxidants and color and odor contributors. They are secondary substances, also called adjuvants.
- the active substances are responsible for the cosmetic fulfilling the function for which it is intended: nutrition, firming, anti-aging, spots, imperfections... their activity defines the function of the product.
- Vehicles and excipients are substances without a cosmetic function. They are used to give the shape and volume, or the necessary weight to the composition. Vehicles can be single-phase, such as liquids, gels, fats and powders, or multi-phase, such as creams, lotions and pastes. Water, distilled, deionized or sterile, is the most used liquid vehicle in cosmetic products; Alcohol is also widely used in formulations.
- the excipients have conservation functions, color, aromas, among others. They are corrective or adjuvant substances, emulsifiers or surfactants, preservatives, colorants and perfumes. When the water in cosmetics comes into contact with the skin, it evaporates, taking with it a large part of the skin's natural oils. After this evaporation, the skin can react to the synthetic emulsifiers, fragrances or colorants in the cosmetic.
- Cosmetic contact dermatitis is a common and growing dermatological problem, with a great impact on the quality of life of patients who suffer from it.
- Additives can be risk factors for atopic dermatitis due to their allergenic power; they are capable of producing, in certain patients, hypersensitivity reactions or allergies.
- the main allergens are fragrances, which are the most common cause of allergies to cosmetics, followed by preservatives.
- composition for the production of cosmetic products of the invention comprises, in its most generic statement:
- Aloe Vera is an active ingredient with multiple benefits. It is composed of numerous substances. More than 160 important ingredients have been found in Aloe Vera. No single substance is responsible for the healing effects of Aloe Vera, but rather it is a synergistic effect of all the ingredients. And in addition to all the active properties that Aloe Vera provides, it is a facilitator of the penetration of active ingredients.
- Aloe Vera The genus Aloe contains around 400 different species; However, the most notable is Aloe Barbadensis Miller, as it is the most biologically active. The applicant has no known history of the use of Aloe Vera as a vehicle for cosmetics.
- Aloe Vera as a vehicle is what has surprisingly made it possible to replace all preservatives with antibacterial and antifungal properties, as well as emulsifiers or surfactants. This seems to have been due to three reasons:
- microorganisms need the presence of water, in an available form, to grow and carry out their metabolic functions. Therefore, water is one of the intrinsic factors that enable microbial growth and its non-availability makes its survival difficult.
- Aloe Vera contains per se antimicrobial, antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal agents (sulfurom, lupeol, salicic acid, cinnamic acid, rheic nitrogen and phenol).
- Aloe Vera contains mucilage that absorbs water and forms hydrophilic colloids with adhesive and viscous capacity that reduces the surface tension between the aqueous and lipid phases. Therefore, the use of Aloe Vera as a vehicle allows the replacement of traditional preservatives and emulsifiers with active substances with additional antimicrobial and/or emulsifying properties that, despite not being as powerful as the former, allow them to achieve the required effectiveness.
- composition for the preparation of cosmetic products of the invention comprises: -one or more main active substances,
- active ingredients with antibacterial and antifungal properties are:
- -Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate This ingredient is obtained by fermenting the radish root with the bacteria Leuconostoc kimchii (bacteria traditionally used in Korea to produce fermented cabbage or Kimchii). Fermented radish root incorporates a peptide that increases hydration while regulating bacterial growth. It also has antifungal action.
- the willow tree (salix nigra) contains natural salicins.
- the fresh bark is rich in tannins and substances similar to salicylic acid. It has powerful antimicrobial properties, it is a safe, non-irritant and non-sensitizing natural preservative. It is a natural source of hydroxy acid and improves skin cell renewal. Due to its content of polyphenols and flavonoids, it has antioxidant properties. It is historically appreciated for its antiseptic, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Rosemary essential oil is considered one of the greatest natural antioxidants that exist. Rosemary contains more than 40 antibacterial and more than 20 antiviral principles. In its composition there are terpenoids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, small amounts of rosmaricin alkaloid and 2% of essential oil. In addition, Rosemary Essential Oil has high anti-inflammatory properties, thanks to its rosmarinic acid content. The antimicrobial properties of rosemary are used in the food and pharmaceutical fields by extracting its leaves. The greatest spectrum of action is found in the essential oil.
- -Succinic Acid which stands out for its great antimicrobial activity, and which makes it perfect for anti-acne products.
- As a mild keratolytic agent it promotes the penetration of other active ingredients by reducing the thickness of the stratum corneum. It also has anti-aging properties because it inhibits the enzymes involved in collagen degradation and energy activity, by increasing the mitochondrial activity of skin cells.
- Magnolia bark contains two anti-inflammatory substances, magnolol and honokiol, which inhibit the activation of NF-KB, a key mediator in inflammatory and aging processes.
- Magnolia extract inhibits the growth of bacteria, yeast and fungi regardless of pH. In addition, it helps reduce redness of the facial skin and improves the hydration and viscoelastic properties of the skin, especially in the crow's feet area.
- Hoelen also known as Fu-ling in China, is a wood-decomposing fungus. Its sclerotium contains a polysaccharide, pachyman and triterpenes. Also spheroids, amino acids, choline and histidine. Hoelen extract has an anti-inflammatory effect, and can reduce puffiness under the eyes and treat dark circles. Helps control sebum secretion. It also forms a layer on the skin and protects it from environmental stimuli, in addition to preserving moisture. It acts as an antioxidant, thus saving the skin from oxidative stress and free radical damage. It can be used to purify the skin, since the sclerotium powder or extract has astringent properties. It not only removes the layer of dead skin cells, but also the dirt and bacteria attached to it. It presents activity against bacterial and fungal strains, which indicates its broad spectrum of activity.
- Glucose Oxidase is an enzyme that converts glucose into gluconolactone.
- gluconolactone is an active ingredient that strengthens the skin barrier, is humectant, attracts hydration and provides luminosity. It is synthesized from the fungus Aspergillus niger. In this process it releases hydrogen peroxide, which actually acts as an antimicrobial agent. It mimics the body's natural defense system, and hydrogen peroxide is bacteriostatic, so microorganisms cannot actively proliferate. It can also be used as an antifungal agent.
- Lactic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that is part of the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF), and is used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, astringent and as a cell renewal agent. At low doses it is moisturizing and astringent, and at higher doses it produces a "peeling" effect of cell renewal.
- AHA alpha-hydroxy acid
- NMF Natural Moisturizing Factor
- the bacteriocins of lactic acid bacteria are peptides of ribosomal origin that act mainly by forming pores in the cell membrane of bacteria, causing apoptosis. Bacteriocins are active against different pathogens and stable at different pH and temperature.
- NMF Natural Moisturizing Factor
- a-lipoic acid also called lipoic acid, alpha lipoic acid (ALA) or thioctic acid
- Antioxidant additives are inhibitors of chemical alterations, capable of delaying or preventing the oxidation of the ingredients in the composition, and therefore extending their useful life.
- a-lipoic acid has never been referred to as an antioxidant additive for cosmetic products, but rather as an active substance to prevent or repair skin damage or aging.
- an emulsion is a dispersed system, stabilized by the addition of a suitable emulsifier, of two immiscible phases, where both the internal and external phases are liquid.
- Emulsifiers or surfactants are chemical substances that are used to reduce the surface tension between both phases, thus allowing emulsions to form and stabilize. Emulsions can be classified according to the composition of the phases that form the emulsion. In this sense, oil-in-water (O/W)), water-in-oil (W/O) or double O/W/O or W/O/W emulsions can be found.
- O/W oil-in-water
- W/O water-in-oil
- W/O double O/W/O or W/O/W emulsions
- the main components of emulsions are the continuous phase, the discontinuous phase and the emulsifier.
- the emulsifier allows the homogenization of both phases, since the two phases that form the emulsion or cream always tend to separate. Therefore, to reduce the speed of separation, surfactant substances are used as emulsifiers, being one of the most used types of additives.
- the emulsion must have an emulsifier that allows the two phases to be stabilized.
- the emulsifier usually accounts for between 1% and 6% of the weight of the product.
- Emulsions are very versatile because they allow both water-soluble and fat-soluble ingredients to be included in the same composition.
- the substitution of Aloe Vera in the composition of water has another additional consequence, to those already mentioned, because among the main ingredients of Aloe Vera are mucilage. Mucilage is located in specialized cells (mucilaginous cells). Its function is to retain water and facilitate germination. Mucilage has an emollient, protective and anti-inflammatory action on the skin.
- Aloe Vera is one of the plants with the highest mucilage content in nature. Aloe mucilage absorbs water and forms hydrophilic colloids with adhesive and viscous capacity. This viscosity reduces the surface tension between the aqueous and lipid phases. Therefore, the need for homogenization of both phases is less than with respect to emulsions with water.
- emulsifiers can be replaced (or eliminated) by active ingredients that also have emulsifying properties complementary to that of Aloe Vera.
- Some active ingredients with emulsifying properties in the event that the composition to be formulated is a cream or emulsion, can be: -Jojoba oil. It is obtained from the seeds of Simmondsia chinensis (Simmondsiaceae), and has presented extraordinary cosmetic properties. It is not an oil but a liquid wax, which also has relative emulsifying properties.
- Simmondsia chinensis Simmondsiaceae
- jojoba oil is made up of 97% ceramides and has numerous skin care properties. It has good stability, is very soft to the touch, hypoallergenic, emollient, moisturizing and non-comedogenic. It is an oil rich in vitamin E and linolenic acid, essential for proper skin regeneration. It has moisturizing and skin-softening properties. It has viscous, solidifying and emulsifying properties.
- -Avena Sativa which constitutes a source of amino acids, around eighteen, the highest content being Glutamic acid, Arginine, Lysine, Threonine, Valine, Alanine, Aspartic acid and Proline. It has been highly effective for cleaning, anti-irritation, anti-aging and as a moisturizer. It has also shown anti-aging, elasticizing, toning and firming properties, and anti-inflammatory and immuno-regulatory properties in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Oats are rich in beta-glucans, which are polysaccharides that can reduce skin inflammation, activate immune cells in the skin, and stimulate collagen deposition. Oats are also rich in saponins, which are chemicals found in numerous plant species, giving them cleansing and soothing powers.
- Saponosides also known as saponins, are heterosides that consist of a carbohydrate part (with one or more sugars) and a genin (non-glucidic part) called sapogenin, which can be spheroid or triterpenic in nature, therefore, of little character. polar.
- the most frequent sugar constituents of the two types of saponosides are glucose, arabinose, rhamnose, galactose and xylose, and glucuronic acid is also common in triterpene saponosides.
- Saponosides decrease the surface tension of water, that is, they are natural surfactants, and in aqueous solution they are capable of foaming and forming emulsions.
- -Sclerotium Gum It is a non-ionic polysaccharide obtained through the fermentation of various types of fungi. The most used is a filamentous fungus called Sclerpotium rolfsii. Apart from having thickening and stabilizing properties, it has been seen that, due to its high glucan content, it provides benefits for the skin. As the protection of the lipid barrier, it increases hydration, protects and repairs damaged skin, enhances the local immune response, and improves collagen production and deposits. It is very stable at high temperatures and electrolyte loads. It is one of the gums most tolerant to acid pH's, up to 2.5. A peculiarity of this rubber is that it has suspensive capacity, therefore, it can help us keep small particles in suspension.
- Lecithins especially those rich in phosphatidylcholine, are important lipophilic emulsifiers and are also used as dispersants, emollients and humectants. They dissolve in water giving colloidal solutions. They are extracted from soybeans, sunflowers and canola. Lecithins have emollient and moisturizing properties. The beneficial components of lecithin include phospholipids, fatty acids and triglycerides that strengthen the skin barrier. Lecithin can also be used to encapsulate a wide range of active ingredients allowing for a better dermal delivery system.
- lauric acid is a medium chain triglyceride naturally present in skin oil. It plays a role in strengthening the skin's innate defenses by strengthening its microbiome. For our purpose it can be obtained from coconut oil, babassu butter and other natural fats. Lauric acid also has emulsifying properties and can help improve the texture of the composition. Its natural bay leaf-like aroma can be used in large quantities to add fragrance to products. Studies have also shown that lauric acid offers antimicrobial activity.
- Turmeric is one of the most used ingredients in acne products thanks to its active component curcumin.
- Curcumin is a dye rich in polyphenols responsible for blocking one of the metabolic factors that promote inflammation, which also gives turmeric antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Turmeric also inhibits the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for dark spots and other types of hyperpigmentation.
- Another of the main benefits of turmeric for the skin is its ability to promote collagen production and accelerate the body's ability to form new healthy tissue. It also blocks elastase, an enzyme that attacks the skin's ability to produce elastin. Due to its antioxidant properties it is an essential ingredient in products intended for mature skin. It is bright yellow to deep orange in color.
- Lycopene (Jycopersicum) is found in nature as a natural fat-soluble pigment responsible for the red and orange color of some fruits and vegetables, mainly tomatoes. Lycopene has antioxidant properties, and acts by protecting cells from oxidative stress, produced by the action of free radicals.
- Laminaria digitata Belonging to the group of Kelp algae, and is a brown seaweed rich in minerals and trace elements. It contains alginates and fucoxanthins, mucilage and chlorophylls A and C, iodine, calcium, potassium, magnesium and vitamins. It is ideal for the preparation of cosmetics with remineralizing purposes, to firm and lose weight. It gives a green tone to the compound.
- -Coconut shell charcoal It is a natural product from the direct carbonization of coconut shells. It is capable of absorbing all types of toxins and impurities from the skin, helping it to remain much healthier and hydrated. It stands out for its high detoxifying and deodorizing power.
- the activated coconut charcoal obtained provides a moisturizing mask effect, allowing a deep cleansing of the skin and proving to be an excellent product for treating skin that is prone to accumulating oil and acne.
- Astaxanthin is a carotene pigment found in plants, algae and fish, particularly salmon, which functions as a powerful antioxidant for the skin. Astaxanthin, like other carotenoids, is an orange-red fat-soluble pigment.
- Titanium dioxide is an inert earth mineral used as a thickening, opacifying, and sunscreen ingredient in cosmetics. Protects the skin from UVA and UVB radiation and is considered non-hazardous in terms of sensitivity of the skin. Because it is gentle, titanium dioxide is a great sunscreen active for sensitive, redness-prone skin. It is ideal for use around the eyes as it is very unlikely to cause stinging. Micronized titanium dioxide does not penetrate the skin - even when titanium dioxide nanoparticles are used - because the molecular size of the substance used to coat the nanoparticles is large enough to prevent them from penetrating beyond the upper layers of the skin. the skin. This means that it provides sun protection without the risk of causing damage to the skin. Titanium dioxide is a white powder that also allows you to adjust a color to a lighter tone.
- Spirulina -Micronized Spirulina (Spirulina), which with a very fine granulometry (50 microns) guarantees a very soft texture, perfect for use in cosmetics.
- Spirulina powder is rich in vitamins A and E, contains 13 different minerals, more than 50 nutrients, plant proteins and essential amino acids. It also contains iron, zinc, beta-carotene, natural antioxidants, chlorophyll and phycocyanin. In cosmetics, it helps maintain the elasticity of the skin and combat blemishes, activating the synthesis of collagen and elastin. In addition to the properties that make it an important cosmetic asset, it is a good natural colorant to give a green color to all types of cosmetic products.
- Hibiscus (hibiscus). Extracts from the sepals contain significant amounts of vitamin C and polyphenols. Hibiscus is also rich in antioxidants called anthocyanocids. Anthocyanocids not only protect against free radical damage, they also have mild astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. Ground hibiscus flower has a deep purple-pink color.
- vanilla planifolia fruit extract is a natural ingredient used in skin care primarily for its antioxidant benefits.
- the seed of the vanilla plant commonly known as the vanilla bean, is a source of catechins (also known as polyphenols), which have antioxidant activity and serve as skin-soothing agents.
- catechins also known as polyphenols
- This edible component is also used as a flavoring agent in many foods and is also sometimes added to lip balms, glosses, and lipsticks to create a pleasant flavor.
- the aromatic component of vanilla is known as vanillin and is an important source of antioxidant compounds that help stop the oxidation of proteins and lipids in the skin.
- vanilla's unique and familiar aroma it is one of the few plants considered non-sensitizing, as the extract form is very mild. The oil form is stronger but is also well tolerated, even on eczema-prone skin.
- vanilla planifolia was neither irritating nor sensitizing
- another form known as Vanilla tahitensis caused irritation and sensitization when tested on human skin at a relatively low level (0.8%). Therefore, it is important to avoid this form of vanilla in skin care.
- Dill extract also known as Anethum graveolens, used in Ayurvedic medicine since ancient times, is also used as a spice and essential oil.
- Dill extract is obtained from the seeds and leaves of both.
- Dill seed extract mainly contains carvone, myristicin, limonin and dill ether to name a few important constituents. It has anti-inflammatory activity, helps improve damaged skin. When applied to the skin, according to studies, it can make the skin more elastic and firm. It also provides the anti-aging effect. The overall appearance of the skin improves with regular application of products containing dill extract. Due to its fragrance, it is also used in perfumery and as a flavoring agent.

-Magnolia Officinalis Bark Extract.
-Hoelen (Poria Cocos Extract).
- Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract.
-Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract.
