In that case, the control part 11 controls each flow volume according to each efficiency of each power converter 20, for example.
- junction temperature Tj can be calculated by the following formula.
- Tj loss x thermal resistance + refrigerant temperature
- the loss depends on the voltage when the semiconductor element 27 is turned on, the energized current, the switching frequency, and the like.
- the ON voltage corresponds to the voltage corresponding to the ON resistance or the saturation voltage.
- the ON voltage corresponds to the drain-source voltage or the collector-emitter voltage during conduction.
- the energized current is a value based on the output command, and cannot be changed by the controller 11 .
- the on-time voltage the minimum value of the on-time voltage is a value corresponding to the characteristics of the semiconductor element 27 when it is properly driven. Therefore, the control unit 11 cannot further reduce the ON voltage.
- the ON voltage has temperature dependence.
- FIG. 10 shows the temperature dependence of the voltage when the semiconductor element 27 is on.
- the horizontal axis is the applied current, and the vertical axis is the voltage at the time of ON.
- FIG. 10 shows a comparison between Tj of 150.degree. C. and 25.degree.
- the control unit 11 of the present embodiment uses the above formula based on the temperature of the coolant, the thermal resistance of the power module 21, and the loss of the power module 21 considering the temperature dependency. Estimate the junction temperature Tj.
- the switching frequency which affects loss, is a factor that can be changed by the control unit 11 .
- thermal resistance is a value that represents the difficulty of temperature transfer or a value that represents the difficulty of heat flow in heat transfer that occurs when heat is applied to an object, and the unit is (K/W) or (°C/W). is.
- the thermal resistance varies depending on, for example, the materials and structures of the members interposed from the cooling fins to the joints in the semiconductor element 27 and the flow rate of the coolant. Materials and structures cannot be controlled by the controller 11 . On the other hand, the controller 11 can control the flow rate.
- the coolant temperature can be controlled by the controller 11 when the cooling device 30 includes a device that variably controls the temperature of the coolant.
- the control unit 11 performs control so that the junction temperature Tj of the power module 21 of the power converter 20 does not exceed the temperature management value of the junction temperature Tj, among the factors that determine Tj, the switching frequency and the refrigerant and the temperature of the coolant can be controlled.
- the temperature of the coolant is limited to the case where the cooling device 30 includes a device that variably controls the temperature of the coolant.
- the efficiency of the power module 21 can be improved by lowering the junction temperature Tj.
- control unit 11 controls the flow rate of the refrigerant to each power converter 20 so as to satisfy the following two control conditions.
- Control condition 1 Change the variable elements (switching frequency, flow rate, and refrigerant temperature) so that the temperature control value of the power module 21 is not exceeded. Controlling the power module 21 so as not to be thermally destroyed is a prerequisite for controlling the flow rate and the like.
- Control condition 2 The power converter 20 that can reduce the overall loss by increasing the flow rate, utilizing the fact that the loss of the power module 21 has temperature dependency as described with reference to FIG. and reduce the flow to the power converter 20, where increasing the flow does not reduce losses as a whole.
- the loss as a whole means the total loss of each power converter 20 .
- control condition 2 is a condition for performing control that pursues high efficiency of the entire system. Note that the control condition 2 may be aimed not at reducing the loss as a whole, but at reducing the loss of some of the power converters 20 .
- the control unit 11 first calculates each loss of the power converters 20A to 20D from the result of temperature estimation to calculate the total system loss. Next, the control unit 11 allocates flow rates based on the current total loss and each loss, and calculates the efficiency of each power converter 20 so as to increase efficiency. In the specific example described with reference to FIG. 7, the current total flow rate is 60 L/min, and the total upper limit is unchanged. to control the cooling flow rate.
- the power module 21 has been described as an example, the same can be applied to the capacitor 22 and the current sensor 23 as well. Since the wind speed control by the fan 25 is also added to them, parameters of ambient temperature and wind speed (flow velocity) are added. As a whole, the control condition 1 is set as the first objective so that the temperature falls within the temperature control value, and the second objective is high efficiency as a system.
- control unit 11 calculates the temperature and efficiency (loss) of each power converter when the flow rate is made uniform from the current operating conditions (step S11).
- the controller 11 calculates the loss ratio of each power converter 20 (step S12).
- the controller 11 calculates the flow ratio based on the loss ratio (step S13).
- the flow rate of the four power converters 20A to 20D is uniformly set to 15 L/min for each power converter 20 in step S11. Further, if the loss ratio is A:B:C:D::4:3:2:1 in step S12, and the total flow rate is 60 L/min in step S13, then 24:18:12:6 The flow rate is determined so that Note that A, B, C and D represent respective losses or respective flow rates of power converters 20A-20D.
- step S15 the control unit 11 calculates a plurality of flow rate increase/decrease patterns in predetermined flow rate increments using the calculated flow rate ratio as a base pattern.
- step S15 for example, the flow increment of each power converter 20 is set to 0.5 L/min, and the flow rate calculation result obtained in step S13 is (1) base pattern (24:18:12:6), and the following Six patterns are required.
- control unit 11 calculates temperature and efficiency (loss) in multiple patterns (step S16). Next, the control unit 11 selects a pattern with the highest overall system efficiency (step S17).
- the control unit 11 determines whether or not a predetermined switching condition is satisfied (step S18).
- the switching condition is, for example, that the system efficiency improvement effect of a predetermined value or more can be expected compared to the case of uniform flow rate, and that the predetermined temperature of each power converter 20 is within the temperature control value.
- the value of the system efficiency improvement effect equal to or greater than the predetermined value can be, for example, 1 kW or greater, but is not limited to this.
- the predetermined value is, for example, a value at which the benefit of switching the flow rate may not outweigh the disadvantage of switching if it is less than the predetermined value.
- step S18 If the predetermined switching condition is satisfied (step S18: YES), the control unit 11 executes control to switch the flow rate to the selected pattern (step S19). Abstract
