Le dispositif d'étirement mécanique est construit de façon à pouvoir réaliser une transformation séquentielle de l'unité de siège d'un état de posture assise à un état de posture de loisir, puis à un état de posture couchée ou une transformation séquentielle inverse. Dans l'état de posture couchée, la direction d'extension des éléments repose-pieds et la direction horizontale forment un angle compris entre 9° et 23°, de préférence entre 14° et 21°, plus préférentiellement entre 18° et 19°.
