Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of smoking products for hookah also commonly referred to as chicha.
- the hookah or chicha, is a water pipe whose smoke is drawn in by the smoker through a long flexible pipe. This allows you to smoke tobacco.
- the shisha product (the "taste") used most frequently in France is generally composed of 28% tobacco, 70% molasses (syrupy liquid which gives a pasty and sticky appearance to shisha tobacco), the rest being aromas, texture agents and preservatives.
- Molasses is a very viscous, non-crystallizable syrup, constituting the residue of the manufacture of sugar from sugar beet or sugar cane. It is composed of approximately 50% sucrose and 13% glucose/fructose.
- the shisha product is placed in a socket which opens onto a chimney leading the smoke by suction to the bottom of a vase filled with water (0.5 to 1 l).
- the product to be smoked does not burn independently, but is heated and partially burned by the addition of incandescent coal in the socket, generally separated from the product to be smoked by a pierced aluminum foil or a kaloud.
- a pipe is connected to the top of the tank to allow users to inhale the smoke up the chimney through the water.
- Shisha smoke contains metals that come from tobacco, but also from coal or aluminum foil. Like all the fumes of organic substances that burn, those of the chicha release, during combustion, nearly 4000 chemical substances, such as heavy metals (chrome, cobalt, lead, etc.), tar and carbon monoxide. Many of them are toxic, irritating and/or carcinogenic.
- the use of shisha exposes smokers to much greater amounts of smoke than cigarettes, mainly due to the duration of smoking sessions.
- the WHO World Health Organization
- shisha is smoked in 8 to 12 puffs over a period of 5 to 7 minutes, while shisha is smoked in 50 and 200 puffs over a period of 40 to 60 minutes.
- Tar is the main substance responsible for smoking-related cancers. However, its production by a single hookah is 10 to 100 times higher - depending on the size of the device, the frequency of inspirations, the nature of the water, etc. - than that of a single cigarette.
- the water of the shisha device retains a fraction of the nicotine, which encourages the smoker to inhale more deeply to obtain the same effect, which therefore exposes him to greater quantities of undesirable substances including tar.
- the published patent documents RU 2 595 978 C1, RU 2 595 9994 C1 and RU 2 595 995 C1 disclose various smoking products for hookahs, comprising tobacco leaves and floral or herbaceous plant material such as in particular thyme, oregano, nettle, sorrel, basil or parsley.
- the objective of the presence of this plant material is to reduce the toxicity of the product to be smoked by reducing the amount of nicotine while maintaining the characteristics necessary to be smoked with a hookah.
- the presence of tobacco leaves preserves an intrinsic toxicity in the product to be smoked.
- the aim of the invention is to overcome at least one of the drawbacks of the aforementioned state of the art. More particularly, the aim of the invention is to provide a smoking product for a hookah which has reduced harmfulness and which organoleptically satisfies the consumer, in particular with a view to reducing or quitting smoking.
- the invention relates to a hookah smoking product, comprising a vaporizable part for inhalation, comprising glycerin, propylene glycol; and a fibrous support of the vaporizable part; remarkable in that the fibrous support comprises plant fibers other than tobacco; and the product further comprises nicotine, of a purity of at least 95%.
- the fibrous support consists of plant fibers other than tobacco.
- no tobacco is present or comprising traces of tobacco with a concentration of less than 0.5% m/m.
- the plant fibers are selected from the following list: fruit fibers, leaf fibers, bast fibers, cellulose fibers, cereal fibers, flower fibers, and any combination.
- the vegetable fibers comprise several types of vegetable fibers.
- type of plant fibers can be understood a family, a genus or even a plant species from which the plant fibers are derived.
- the type of vegetable fibers can also correspond to the elements of the aforementioned list, namely fruit fibers, leaf fibers, bast fibers, cellulose fibers, cereal fibers, and flower fibers.
- the plant fibers may or may not include bagasse.
- the plant fibers of cereal(s) are cereal bran fibers.
- the plant fibers are at a concentration of between 2% m/m and 50% m/m.
- the plant fibers are cut and/or ground so as to have an average main size of between 0.1 and 20mm.
- the plant fibers are cut and/or ground so as to present an average main surface of between 1 and 20 mm 2 .
- the plant fibers have a moisture content of between 5 and 30% m/m.
- the nicotine is at a concentration of between 0.01 and 1% m/m.
- the nicotine is at a concentration of between 0.05 and 0.7% m/m.
- the nicotine is at a concentration of between 0.15 and 0.3% m/m.
- the measures of the invention are advantageous in that they provide a smoking product that is substantially less harmful than a smoking product based predominantly on tobacco while providing similar pleasure and sensation.
- the use of pure nicotine as a replacement for tobacco leaves allows the smoking product to provide the organoleptic effect of tobacco while significantly reducing the production of harmful substances otherwise produced during the combustion of tobacco leaves. Nicotine indeed causes an increase in blood pressure and heart rate, leads to the release of adrenaline and dopamine. It also has the effect of improving concentration and memory.
- the use of pure nicotine makes it possible to control the dosage in the product to be smoked, the invention thus being part of smoking cessation.
- plant fibers other than tobacco provides a fibrous substrate or support that is particularly well suited to absorbing the liquid part, namely in particular glycerin, propylene glycol and nicotine.
- This fibrous support is advantageous in that it has reduced harmfulness, during heating or combustion of the product to be smoked on the shisha, in comparison with tobacco leaves, and moreover, depending on its composition, provides an aromatic effect complementary to nicotine.
- FIG. 1 is a graph showing the average ratings of a group 1 of 20 testers of the smoking product according to the invention as a function of the nicotine concentration;
- FIG. 1 is a graph showing the average ratings of a group 2 of 20 testers of the smoking product according to the invention as a function of the nicotine concentration;
- FIG. 1 is a graph showing the average ratings of a group 3 of 20 testers of the smoking product according to the invention as a function of the nicotine concentration.
- the smoking product for hookah according to the invention advantageously comprises, in decreasing order of importance in mass concentration, glycerin, propylene glycol, vegetable fibers other than tobacco and nicotine.
- Glycerin or glycerol comes in the form of a transparent, viscous, colorless, odorless liquid, slightly toxic if ingested, with a sweet taste. Its name according to the UCIPA nomenclature is 1,2,3-propanetriol CAS: 56-81-5. It is commonly available commercially.
- Propylene glycol (PG) whose name according to the UCIPA nomenclature is propane-1,2-diol CAS:57-55-6 comes in a colorless, odorless, hygroscopic and viscous liquid form. It is also commonly available commercially. It is commonly used in many fields such as in the food industry as an emulsifier, in the cosmetics industry as a humectant.
- propylene glycol in particular in combination with glycerol, makes it possible to produce, once heated by the coal of the hookah, an aerosol simulating tobacco smoke.
- the plant fibers other than tobacco can be fruit fibers, leaf fibers, bast fibers, cellulose fibers, cereal fibers, flower fibers, or any combination of these fibers.
- the fruit fibers can comprise dried pieces of flesh with or without skin, and/or dried peels or skins of these fruits. These pieces, zests and skins can be obtained by cutting and/or grinding the dried fruit.
- the leaf fibers can include pieces of dried leaves, obtained by crushing the leaves in question. These leaves can be kaffir lime, logan, cinnamon, verbena, tea, hawthorn, agrimony, mugwort, boldo, Centella Asiatica, Cistus Incanus, eucalyptus, birch, damiana, raspberry, lemon balm, blueberry, dandelion, sana makki , Honeybush, Kinkeliba, Mate, Mint, Moringa Oleifera, Linden, Rooibos, Bergamot, Yucca, Sisal (agave), Phormium, Mother-in-Law's Tongue, Henequen, Pineapple (pina), Abaca (banana leaves) and any combination.
- Bast fibers can be obtained by cutting and/or grinding plant stems. These stems are advantageously dried beforehand.
- the fibers obtained by cutting and/or grinding can also be dried again. They may include basswood, ramie, papyrus, nettle, flax, barrel creeper, kenaf, jute, Indian hemp, hemp (wool), and any combination.
- Cellulose fibers can be obtained from cotton, wood, hemp, flax and sugar cane.
- the vegetable fibres, and therefore the product to be smoked, may or may not include bagasse.
- Bagasse fibers are fibrous residues from sugar cane that have been crushed to extract the juice. They are composed mainly of the cellulose of the plant.
- the cereal fibre(s) may comprise pieces of bran from the cereal in question. This bran, once dried, is ground to form these pieces.
- the grain(s) are selected from the following list: wheat, oats, buckwheat, and any combination.
- the flower fibers can also include pieces of dried flowers.
- the flower(s) are selected from the following list: rosebuds, chamomile, arnica, orange blossom, cornflower, elderberry, ginkgo biloba, hibiscus, clover, lavender, passion flower, and any combination.
- the flowers are advantageously flowers of fruit trees, in particular apple trees, pear trees, etc. More generally, they are advantageously flowers capable of producing fruit.
- type of plant fibers we can hear the various elements mentioned above, namely fruit fibers, leaf fibers, bast fibers, cellulose fibers, cereal fibers and flower fibers. .
- type of plant fibers one can also mean a plant family, a plant genus or even a plant species.
- the plant fibers detailed above have a moisture content of between 5 and 30% m/m. They are cut and/or ground so as to have an average main surface of between 1 and 20mm 2 and/or a main dimension of between 0.1 and 20mm. They are present in the smoking product with a concentration of between 2% m/m and 50% m/m.
- Plant fibers other than tobacco are advantageous in that they are a fuel that releases a limited amount of carbon dioxide when heated.
- Nicotine is advantageously of plant origin, extracted from tobacco. However, it can also be produced synthetically. It can also be a mixture of nicotine of vegetable origin and synthetic nicotine. The nicotine advantageously has a purity greater than or equal to 95%, preferably greater than or equal to 99%. Its name according to UCIPA nomenclature is (S)-3-(1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinyl)pyridine, CAS: 54-11-5, and its chemical formula is C10H14N2. It appears as a hygroscopic, oily, yellow liquid with a characteristic odor and turns brown on exposure to air.
- Nicotine is an alkaloid that acts by inhalation, ingestion and contact. In the present case of hookah smoking products, the nicotine acts by inhalation. When inhaled, nicotine is absorbed by the blood capillaries of the lungs, crosses the blood-brain barrier, and arrives in a few seconds in the brain without passing through the hepatic portal system.
- the inventors of the present invention have observed that the combination of glycerin, propylene glycol, non-tobacco plant fibers, and nicotine in products for smoking with a hookah provides the pharmacokinetic effects of brain passage that are similar to those of classic chichas while greatly reducing the harmful effects linked to the inhalation of tar resulting from the combustion of tobacco.
- the nicotine can be at a concentration of between 0.01 and 1% m/m, preferentially between 0.05 and 0.7% m/m, more preferentially between 0.15 and 0.3% m/m.
- Herbal Shisha includes, in addition to nicotine, glycerin, propylene glycol, vegetable fibers other than tobacco, in this case sugar cane bagasse.
- the shishas were all prepared the same way, by the same person and contained 15g of Herbal Shisha product.
- each of the consumers was asked to give a mark out of 10 to the product they had tested in terms of sensation relating to nicotine, namely the hit (sensation of contraction of the larynx during the passage of vapor during inhalation) and possible side and/or unpleasant effects.
- a score of 0 corresponds to an unsatisfactory feeling
- a score of 5 corresponds to an acceptable feeling
- a score of 10 corresponds to a very satisfactory feeling.
- the preferential concentrations vary according to the type of consumer. Taking into account these different types of consumers, we can however deduce from these results that the preferred nicotine concentration range goes from 0.05% to 0.70%.
