Applicant: S.I.R.I S.p.A.
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a process for preparation a chemical formulation.
The invention in object is advantageously used in the chemical industry, in particular for the preparation of water-based substances suitable for being effectively used to carry out decorative and I or industrial or similar paints, to which the following description will make explicit reference without however this lose in generality.
The object of the present invention is to provide an effective process for the preparation of a chemical paint formulation free from carcinogenic components such as for example titanium dioxide.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a process aimed at obtaining a chemical paint formulation with high covering power for both decorative and professional industrial use.
The structural and functional characteristics of the present invention and its advantages with respect to the known prior art will become even more clear and evident from the claims below, and in particular from an examination of the following description, which describes a preferred but not limiting embodiment of the process in object.
The process object of the present invention starts from the use of binding substances such as acrylic copolymers in a technology called Avanse-Evoque® (produced by Dow Chemicals®).
These binder copolymers are currently difficult and complicated to use in many formulations of painting substances, in particular those with high PVC and I or high volume of solids, due to the problems related to the stabilization of the viscosity in the can of the painting products containing these copolymers, as well as the scarce effective opening time that the coating products in question have.
The formulation indications of the manufacturer of such binding copolymers suggest to use polyphosphates or low molecular weight acrylic copolymers (2000-9000) as dispersing agents.
On the other hand, the innovation in question advantageously provides for the use of additive dispersing substances in combination with the aforementioned binding copolymers.
In fact, it has been verified that the use of dispersing agents of various chemical nature with high molecular weight and in particular high molecular weight acrylic copolymers (> 30000) allows to
completely solve the problems of stability of viscosity in the jar and of time, open of painting products containing the aforementioned copolymers in Avanse-Evoque® technology.
Therefore, the combination of Avanse-Evoque® polymers and high molecular weight dispersants allows to obtain great formulation flexibility through which it is possible to obtain titanium dioxidefree painting products with a covering power adequate to the demands of the market both for decorative use and for use. industrial.
In the formulations produced it was ascertained that, in addition to the aforementioned combination, the use of covering organic polymers in aqueous dispersion - such as the polymers called Ro- paque® also produced by the Dow Chemicals® company, or the polymers called Celoco®r produced by the Arkema® company - to an extent > 5% by weight calculated on the total weight of the formulation itself, it allows to obtain the desired hiding power properties for the coating product.
It was also ascertained that the introduction in the formulation of silicone resins in an amount > 0.5% by weight calculated on the total weight of the formulation itself and I or the introduction in the formulation of water-repellent additives based on silanes, or siloxanes, or silicones, paraffins or of other nature allows to solve the problems of excessive water absorption of the dry film of the paint products formulated according to the aforementioned criteria.
Carbonates, silicates, talcs, quartzes, silicas, barites, dolomite, kaolins, calcined kaolins were used as fillers.
Acyl, urethane, cellulose ether-based thickeners, xanthan gums, hydroxypropyl guar, attapulgites, laponites, ethylene polyoxides, polyethers have been used as thickening agents.
It has also been ascertained that the introduction in the formulation of laponite in a 10% aqueous solution to an extent > 0.5% by weight calculated on the weight of the formulation itself is necessary in order to improve the open time in particular of the formulations of formulated paint products as described above, intended for decorative use by brush or roller application.
On the basis of the above, formulations of varnishing products have also been developed for use as two-component pigmented primers for wood for industrial, professional or domestic use.
Such two-component primers were catalyzed with isocyanates in a measure of > 1% by weight calculated on the weight of the formulation itself.
