Abstract
Description
本願は、2021年3月31日に、日本に出願された特願2021-059342号に基づき優先権を主張し、その内容をここに援用する。
しかしながら、再生可能エネルギーのさらなる普及には、(1)巨大な太陽光や風力発電施設などのエネルギー供給地からエネルギー消費地である都市部へのエネルギー輸送方法、(2)電力網に入れることのできない余剰電力や電力需要ピークと供給ピークの時間差に起因する電力ロス、など、多くの課題がある。
水素やメチルシクロヘキサンが上述の化合物として有名であるが、近年では、より安定で貯蔵や輸送が容易なアルコールが、次世代エネルギー源として着目されている。
なお、電極となるチタン基材においては、電解セルに電極を組み込んだ際、気孔構造を保てるよう、圧縮に対する高い機械強度も重要であるため、チタン繊維焼結体に機械強度で勝る、チタン粒子焼結体が提案されている(特許文献1参照)。
よって、チタン粒子焼結体の表面に、アナターゼ型酸化チタンからなる酸化チタン皮膜を形成したチタン基材を得ることができなかった。
この場合、チタン粒子焼結体からなる前記基材本体の気孔率が30%以上とされているので、チタン基材の内部に流体を効率的に流通させることができ、チタン基材の表面での反応を促進することができる。
一方、チタン粒子焼結体からなる前記基材本体の気孔率が92%以下とされているので、前記基材本体の強度を確保することができる。
この場合、圧縮強度が0.5MPa以上とされているので、基材本体がチタン粒子焼結体で構成されていても、強度に十分に優れており、水電解用電極として安定して使用することができる。
この場合、比表面積が0.1m2/g以上とされているので、触媒作用を有する酸化チタン皮膜の表面積が大きくなっており、チタン基材表面での反応をさらに促進することができる。
この場合、前記酸化チタン皮膜の平均膜厚が0.05μm以上とされているので、アナターゼ型酸化チタンの触媒作用を長時間維持することができる。一方、前記酸化チタン皮膜の平均膜厚が1.0μm以下とされているので、電気抵抗が十分に低く、チタン基材全体の導電性を確保することができる。
この構成の水電解用電極によれば、チタン粒子焼結体からなる基材本体の表面に、チタン酸化物のうちアナターゼ型酸化チタンが占める割合が90%以上とされた酸化チタン皮膜が形成されたチタン基材で構成されているので、酸化チタン皮膜の触媒作用により、カルボン酸からアルコール合成を行うことが可能となる。
また、基材本体がチタン粒子焼結体で構成されており、多孔質構造となっているため、電極表面での反応を促進することができる。
この構成の固体高分子形水電解装置によれば、チタン粒子焼結体からなる基材本体の表面に、チタン酸化物のうちアナターゼ型酸化チタンが占める割合が90%以上とされた酸化チタン皮膜が形成されたチタン基材で構成された水電解用電極を備えているので、酸化チタン皮膜の触媒作用により、カルボン酸からアルコール合成を行うことが可能となる。
また、基材本体がチタン粒子焼結体で構成されており、多孔質構造となっているため、電極表面での反応を促進することができる。
そして、本実施形態においては、図3に示すように、酸化チタン皮膜16を構成するチタン酸化物のうちアナターゼ型酸化チタンが占める割合が90%以上とされている。このアナターゼ型酸化チタンにおいては、カルボン酸を還元してアルコール合成を行う際に触媒として作用するものである。
なお、酸化チタン皮膜16を構成するチタン酸化物のうちアナターゼ型酸化チタンが占める割合は91%以上であることが好ましく、92%以上であることがより好ましい。
この基材本体11は、その気孔率Pが30%以上92%以下の範囲内とされていることが好ましい。なお、基材本体11の気孔率Pは、以下の式で算出される。

ここで、チタン基材10における反応をさらに促進させるためには、基材本体11の気孔率Pを40%以上とすることがさらに好ましく、50%以上とすることがより好ましい。また、チタン基材10の強度をさらに向上させるためには、基材本体11の気孔率Pを90%以下とすることがさらに好ましく、88%以下とすることがより好ましい。
チタン基材10の比表面積が0.1m2/g以上である場合には、基材本体11の表面に形成された酸化チタン皮膜16の表面積が大きく、アナターゼ型酸化チタンの触媒作用を十分に奏功せしめることができ、反応をさらに促進させることが可能となる。
ここで、アナターゼ型酸化チタンの触媒作用をさらに奏功せしめるためには、チタン基材10の比表面積を0.2m2/g以上とすることがさらに好ましく、0.3m2/g以上とすることがより好ましい。なお、チタン基材10の比表面積の上限に特に制限はないが、実質的には5.0m2/g以下であることが好ましい。
酸化チタン皮膜16の平均膜厚tが0.05μm以上とされている場合には、アナターゼ型酸化チタンの触媒作用を長時間維持することができる。一方、酸化チタン皮膜16の平均膜厚tが1.0μm以下とされている場合には、電気抵抗が十分に低くなり、チタン基材10全体の導電性を確保することができる。
ここで、アナターゼ型酸化チタンの触媒作用をさらに長時間維持するためには、酸化チタン皮膜16の平均膜厚tを0.07μm以上とすることがさらに好ましく、0.1μm以上とすることがより好ましい。また、チタン基材10全体の導電性をさらに確保するためには、酸化チタン皮膜16の平均膜厚tを0.9μm以下とすることがさらに好ましく、0.8μm以下とすることがより好ましい。
チタン基材10の圧縮強度が0.5MPa以上である場合には、強度が十分に確保されており、使用時の変形や割れの発生を抑制することができ、電極として安定して使用することができる。
ここで、使用時の変形や割れの発生をさらに抑制するためには、チタン基材10の圧縮強度を0.7MPa以上とすることがさらに好ましく、0.9MPa以上とすることがより好ましい。
まず、基材本体11となるチタン粒子焼結体を準備する。このチタン粒子焼結体は、例えば、以下のような工程で製造することができる。
チタンを含む焼結原料を、有機バインダー、発泡剤、可塑剤、水および必要に応じて界面活性剤を混合して、発泡性スラリーを作製する。この発泡性スラリーを、ドクターブレード(塗布装置)を用いて塗布し、シート状の成形体を成形する。このシート状の成形体を加熱して発泡させて発泡成形体を得る。そして、これを脱脂した後で焼結する。これにより、チタン粒子焼結体が作製される。(例えば、特開2006-138005号公報、特開2003-082405号公参照)
次に、上述のようにして得られたチタン粒子焼結体に対して、アニーリング処理を行う。具体的には、上述のチタン粒子焼結体をジルコニア製のセッターの上に設置し、真空度1Pa以下、保持温度1200℃以上1300℃以下、保持時間0.5時間以上3.0時間以下の条件でアニーリング処理を行う。
このアニーリング処理工程S02によって、粒子焼結界面部分の抵抗を低くすることが可能となる。これにより、後述する陽極酸化工程S03において、粒子焼結界面部分での発熱を抑制でき、チタン基材10の強度を向上させることが可能となる。
次に、アニーリング処理を行ったチタン粒子焼結体(基材本体11)に対して陽極酸化を行うことにより、酸化チタン皮膜16を形成する。
本実施形態においては、硫酸濃度0.2M以下の硫酸中で200V以下の電圧で、陽極酸化を行うことにより、アナターゼ型酸化チタンが占める割合が90%以上とされた酸化チタン皮膜16を形成している。
ここで、アノード極32、イオン透過膜34、触媒層35については、従来の一般的な固体高分子形水電解装置で使用されているものを適用することができる。
この水素を原料として、カソード極33側でカルボン酸を還元することで、アルコールが合成される。このとき、カソード極33の表面に形成された酸化チタン皮膜16(チタン酸化物のうちアナターゼ型酸化チタンが占める割合が90%以上)が触媒となり、カルボン酸の還元反応が促進されることになる。還元後のアルコールは、カソード極33から排出される。
例えば、本実施形態では、図5に示す構造の固体高分子形水電解装置(水電解セル)を例に挙げて説明したが、これに限定されることはなく、本実施形態であるチタン基材からなる水電解用電極を備えていれば、その他の構造の水電解装置(水電解セル)であってもよい。
まず、表1に示す基材本体を準備した。準備した基材本体の寸法は、幅25mm×長さ25mmとし、平均膜厚は表1に記載したものした。なお、本発明例1-6および比較例1,2においては、チタン粒子焼結体とし、比較例3はチタン繊維焼結体とした。ここで、基材本体の気孔径、気孔率は、以下のようにして測定した。
なお、チタン繊維焼結体は、チタン繊維(直径20μm以上50μm以下)を原料とし、焼結工程を経て多孔質化した部材である。
Leica社製の光学カメラ LEICA DMS300を用いて、各種チタン部材を撮影した。撮影した画像を三谷商事社製の画像解析ソフトWin ROOFを用いて電極骨格部分と空孔部分に対して二値化処理を行い、気孔径を算出した。
気孔率は、以下の式で算出した、

DT:チタンの真密度(g/cm3)
なお、基材本体11の体積Vの算出には、デジタルマイクロメーターで測定した基材本体11の厚みと、デジタルノギスで測定した縦及び横の長さを用いた。また、基材本体11の質量は、電子天秤にて測定した。
次に、基材本体の表面に、表1に示す方法および条件にて、陽極酸化を行い、酸化チタン皮膜を成膜した。
得られたチタン基材について、酸化チタン皮膜の同定、圧縮強度、比表面積を、以下のように評価した。
Rigaku社の全自動多目的X線回折装置(製品名:SmartLab)を用いて、X線回折分析(XRD)法によって、酸化チタン皮膜のチタン酸化物を同定し、アナターゼ型酸化チタンの割合(Ra)およびルチル型酸化チタンの割合(Rr)を評価した。X線源はCu管球(CuKα線)を用い、測定角度範囲は15-90°とした。上述の割合の算出には、アナターゼ型酸化チタンの25.3°のピーク強度をIaとし、ルチル型酸化チタンの27.4°のピーク強度をIrとして、以下の式を用いた。
Ra=Ia/(Ia+Ir)
Rr=Ir/(Ia+Ir)
Ia:バックグランドを除した後の24.3-26.3°の範囲におけるX線の総検出数
Ir:バックグランドを除した後の26.4-28.4°の範囲におけるX線の総検出数
成膜後のサンプルを樹脂埋めし、酸化チタン皮膜の厚さ方向に対して垂直方向に切断して断面を露出させる。この断面をSEM観察し、倍率20000倍で観察したSEM画像内に写る酸化チタン皮膜層の端から端までを均等に5点取り、それぞれ平均膜厚を算出した。そして、測定した5点の平均値から酸化チタン皮膜の平均膜厚を求めた。評価結果を表1に示す。
圧縮試験を実施し、圧縮強度を評価した。評価結果を表1に示す。
成膜後のサンプルを2mm×2mm以下の角片に切り出し、約0.3gをサンプルフォルダに充填した。サンプルフォルダをQUANTACHROME 社製のAUTOSORB-iQ2に設置し、温度200度で60分間脱気した。その後、クリプトンガスを導入し、比表面積を測定した。
評価結果を表1に示す。

- チタン粒子焼結体からなる基材本体と、この基材本体の表面に形成された酸化チタン皮膜と、を有し、
前記酸化チタン皮膜を構成するチタン酸化物のうちアナターゼ型酸化チタンが占める割合が90%以上であることを特徴とするチタン基材。 - 前記基材本体の気孔率が30%以上92%以下の範囲内であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のチタン基材。
- 圧縮強度が0.5MPa以上であることを特徴とする請求項1または請求項2に記載のチタン基材。
- 比表面積が0.1m2/g以上であることを特徴とする請求項1から請求項3のいずれか一項に記載のチタン基材。
- 前記酸化チタン皮膜の平均膜厚が0.05μm以上1.0μm以下の範囲内であることを特徴とする請求項1から請求項4のいずれか一項に記載のチタン基材。
- 請求項1から請求項5のいずれか一項に記載のチタン基材からなることを特徴とする水電解用電極。
- 請求項6に記載の水電解用電極を備えたことを特徴とする固体高分子形水電解装置。
